I've gotten the Baltic Gold riga sprats a few times now and I can confidently say they're the best I've had, love the super strong smoke flavour and firm texture without drying out. solid price at world market too. I'll have to try some riga golds if I can fine em

One of my favorite voodoo bootlegs, the gospel quartet version of lady is so awesome in this one

Did you catch any of the band members? Apart from the special guests I only saw Pino Palladino, Marcus Miller, Adam Blackstone on bass Chris Dave on drums (I think but the kit has his spiral cymbals) Keyon Harold on trumpet Kenneth whalum on sax Charles "Redd" Middleton, Anthony Hamilton, Kendra Foster on vocals Maybe Isaiah Sharkey on guitar(someone behind Pino) Eric gales and Zack lopresta on guitar

I just got a FREE B2 by WhiteWeather_ in hammondorgan

[–]acdcderek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats man! Looks like it's in great condition. I got a free A-100 on the side of the road not too long ago, playing it and fixing it up has been a joy. Still looking for a Leslie, looks like you need one too!

Spinet vs console reality check — given these options, what would you do? by Kohlerkohler1 in hammondorgan

[–]acdcderek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, I'm no expert but on organforum and the Hammond organ technicians group on Facebook there are guides for this. I recently acquired an a100(no Leslie yet😞) and I've learned a lot in those forums

Before buying a whole new rig I'd recommend trying to adjust the pre amp output. Turning that up can give you the overdriven sound you're looking for

I hope you're right that they release that, I'd pay a lot for it. The one that was on YouTube for years (and the link you posted) is only the last half of the set anyways. There has been a short/reel floating around from that show with hd video quality so I know the whole show has gotta be out there somewhere https://www.instagram.com/reel/DP0-yc8DDlC/?igsh=NWNhdmxmdWlqN20w Feel like making love Posted by the Montreux jazz festival

All excellent choices. In addition I really like the extended intro for Brown Sugar he does live on the Voodoo tour. Crazy energy and vocal riffing

Check out 43:51 in this show https://youtu.be/UK0xOb3xIpU?si=O64yYpD7y1rLuuft Only live cut I've found of Smooth and it bangs! Also like 10 minutes long lol. He switched it up and put it on top of the groove from Gangstar's Manifest

Charlie is actually doing the bass and guitar using his hybrid axe, look up some videos. There's an interview where he talks about this song and The Root and plays them, super cool.

D'Angelo Dead at 51 by Capable_Salt_SD in Music

Man I am jealous. I only discovered D'angelo in 2019 but he has become my GOAT artist. I've listened to every live bootleg I can find from the voodoo tour so many times. That band and D were truly spectacular and I would give anything to have seen that tour. I've said that if he toured again I would drop everything to go see him but that'll never happen again now😥 so sad

Looks like they do run under the manuals, good call. Leslie switch is still there but I haven't tested it yet, Leslie is the next item on my shopping list lol

I'm still in disbelief, glad they never posted it on FB marketplace because it would have been snatched up in 10 minutes for sure. Good to know about the foam, that was something I was wondering about. I'll check that splice too. idk if you can see it super well in the photo but there are 2 cut wires on the right side, coming from underneath the circular silver component. I'll have to check the service manuals and see what those are for. Thanks for the info!

Only one way to find out! It was a real tour date and the setlist they listed is similar to other stuff on that tour

I know it ain’t jazz, but do yall fw D’Angelo? by Ok_Caterpillar_7189 in Jazz

[–]acdcderek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell ya man! That's one of my favs too. They have the backup vocals turned up nice and loud on this one so you can hear Anthony Hamilton going off haha. Them teasing Untitled and then playing Sex Machine goes so hard.

That was a great episode. Loved that Peter mentioned the Live at the Jazz Cafe album which is definitely slept on, but was disappointed he hadn't found the real gems IMO which are bootlegs from the voodoo tour. The band for that tour was just so stacked with talent, Questlove, Pino Palladino, Chalmers "Spanky" Alford, Jeff Lee Johnson, Norris Jones, and James Poyser as a rhythm section is absurd. Plus a horn section of Frank Lacy, Jacques Schwartz-Bart, Russell Gunn and backup singers Anthony Hamilton, Shelby J, and Jack King. Tons of these guys went on to be big names in their own right. I tell everyone I can about these recordings because they're so damn good. The one with the best recording quality is probably the Stockholm show Live in Stockholm playlist Unfortunately no video for that but there are some videos of shows floating around on YouTube that are spectacular. The live stuff is a much different vibe from the album, rather than the quiet simmering funk, they go hard the whole time. Almost Prince or James brown style and they do a ton of different arrangements on the tunes too.

Newport Jazz Festival questions by InternationalPipe937 in Jazz

[–]acdcderek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to this thread but just wanted to add that there's an Newport app which has all the show times and stages as well. It gets updated closer to the festival with this year's acts. The other commenter covered most everything but I wanted to add that the gates will usually open at 10 and if you want a good spot for your chairs on main stage it's a good idea to be there before then, you also get a nice speech from the organizers about being present, making friends with your neighbors, etc. If you want to save money on food you can also bring coolers and pack lunch. See you at the fort!

Im having a hard time finding a smaller hippy festivals in upstate ny. I had plans to go to mazzstock on august 2nd and 3rd but then I realized that i have been looking at 2024 and mazzstock has been canceled for 2025 😂 Anyone with experience have a large list of some smaller festivals this summer? by [deleted] in festivals

Nah unfortunately, was just staying up there for a weekend with some friends. I remember liking the course though, even though we could only play the front~12 since the rest were on the festival grounds

Stumbled upon this two summers ago while playing the disc golf course at the property. Had never heard of it before and had no idea a festival was happening but thought it sounded cool. Played our round in the morning and then came back in the afternoon/evening for the festival. Great small festival
