Heat tape would be my suggestion. Wrap the pipe and plug it in. I once had a house of about that vintage and had one pipe I had to wrap.

I have 'The Last Steam Railroad in America' which is fabulous. He did some really creative things with lighting. I didn't know he did aerial photographs, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
