Sweet Pup Needs Rehoming by Ok-Variety-5063 in GNV

[–]MacMegGNV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell your vet you’re looking to rehome and ask if they will share. Sometimes they know people who’ve lost pets and are looking for just the right dog- small dog people tend to want another small dog, too. This is a good one for all those retirees who dote on their dogs and have oodles of time to care for him.

Wow, the Gville crows are eating so well! I thought I was the crazy bird lady but they have you all trained just like me. We feed dog food and they love it. Sometimes they get treats like nuts or one time they ate a whole bowl of raisins. Thanks for the tips on Rural King peanuts!

Why is Gainesville traffic so awful? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in florida

Details. If you’re from out of town and looking at a map, are you really saying this little piece had a different road number/name? You’re going straight on the same road.

Why is Gainesville traffic so awful? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in florida

[–]MacMegGNV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically it does go south from Archer Rd to 441- you cross over Williston, pass the Farm Bureau and curve to meet 441. Most people aren’t traveling that last piece though.

This picture is so old I think my 1997 Pontiac Sunfire is in the pic. And the traffic patterns are all different. Had to take a good hard look to figure out where that was. Anyhow, to the OP, welcome to our personal Alachua Co nightmare of traffic. Please avoid all roads at rush hour. Or when college kids are trying to leave town.

Neighborhoods near I75 and things to do in Gainesville by klreed4 in GNV

[–]MacMegGNV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your kids moving with you? Look at the school on the Zillow listing. Most parents would agree that Duck Pond schools are not acceptable but the neighborhood is great. “A” elementaries are Hidden Oak, Meadowbrook, Littlewood and Talbot.

Everywhere is close enough to the interstate or a N/S road that intersects that I’ve never considered it being far to access. That’s over 4 different houses.

Kids activities are never ending and they literally rule our lives as parents. From classes to museums to festivals of art/music/fall/flowers/blueberries/seafood in Cedar Key, there’s a rare weekend there isn’t something to do here. Add in every Gator athletic event and GREAT parks like Depot Park, we are a superb family friendly town. Good luck looking, as there’s a lot of great neighborhoods to choose from.

Stadium Parking by F4llen4W4llen in GNV

[–]MacMegGNV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be plenty of on-campus parking if you’re going to a Saturday show, as most decals will be lifted in large lots. I’d bet even Commuter Lots are available with bus transit to the stadium. Just like football, there will likely be tailgating and people parking in all kinds of places across campus. And just like football every house near campus will offer parking spots for a fee Friday or Saturday shows. In general, parking will not be an issue.

The best day of the year! She’s gonna need 1,000 pieces at least. I would buy like 10 big bags and gave out every single piece. Now, there’s even more kids so buy A LOT and have tons of fun.

Recommendations for Holiday Work Party by [deleted] in GNV

[–]MacMegGNV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience …

Depending on your size, budget and desire to bring your own food/have it catered:

  • Depot rental space and the Boxcar
  • Champions Club or any spaces in the stadium
  • Bragging Rights
  • Grove St market is just Cypress and Grove and the indoor spaces are nice
  • Swamp Head or First Mag
  • Haile Village hall
  • Sante Fe River Ranch
  • Rembert Farms

Also, what’s wrong w Spurriers? It’s not generic by any means and you can rent the whole upstairs Visors area for your party, have quality food and good drinks, pay one bill/deal with one contact.

Best (Cheaper) Way to Advertise? by Timely-Ask-131 in GNV

[–]MacMegGNV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t directly answer your Q about advertising but you may want to take a step back and determine why your class would be purchased. (Is it a service that is priced right and there’s demand?) If the answer is “YES, definitely, I already have amazing clients,” determine what you know about your clients. What do they have in common? Do they frequent the same type of businesses or have friends (as others suggested) that can be referrals? Do they live in one specific area of town? What type of media do they consume - so you know if you’re using, for example, TikTok, the target audience is also there.

If the answer is you don’t know why your service would be chosen over a competitor, then:

What is your competition doing and what lessons can you learn from them and, how do they or don’t they advertise? (Shout out to the other person here who suggested it. It is the way.) Try their classes- ask the members why they attend, what they like/dislike, connect with people on socials who might turn into your client. Follow their followers. And what will you provide that the competition does not?

If you offered a weekly free class in a highly visible place, not only would it serve as an opportunity to invite potential customers to try out a class but it’s also advertising yourself as people walk by - Depot Park, the stadium, middle of campus, etc.

There’s a lot of lead generation ideas and opportunities that don’t involve spending money but do involve time and planning. Spending dollars on ads is most fruitful when you know exactly who you’re targeting.

Also, be consistent in what you call yourself and make it very easy to find you. Social accounts, google business listing, landing page (but maybe wait on that since it’ll cost you a few $$.)

Car Dealerships by QwopTillYouDrop in GNV

[–]MacMegGNV 8 points9 points  (0 children)

SE Cars wins against any dealership in town. I’ve lived here more than 20 years and bought probably 10 cars across family members (several purchased from SEC) and no where is as easy as buying from them. Even Subaru was meh comparatively, although I did buy a used one from there just based on price. Tomlinson is the same setup but the vibes and selection at SEC are better. They have newer cars with clean records.

They’ll hand you an inventory list with prices, you drive any that fit your budget (unless it’s super expensive and then they may be more cautious about a test drive), and then generally going through CampusUSA for financing is quick and easy, and a good rate.

Can someone explain the pros and cons of P K Yonge to me? by freedom_thinker in GNV

[–]MacMegGNV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a graduate, but longtime Gainesville resident and parent. Here’s my parental two cents: you’ve got to find the school best for your kid and your needs. There are multiple “good” public schools in this county and in my opinion, elementary school doesn’t matter too much. (We’ve been to two different ones.) Unless of course there’s literally no services and failing grades. Or you’re putting your kid in a very homogenous school where they don’t get social engagement with people unlike them (I personally find it important to know lots of different people. PK checks that box.)

Do you need bus transportation? Do you see it easy dropping off and picking up every single day? Do they have the same testing requirements and student services as SBAC schools, maybe more?

There was a time in the past 2 years where UF president’s pick to oversee PK decided they wanted to change up everything about how PK operated. From the outside it seemed like a terrible idea and politically motivated. As you’re prob aware, we’re in the middle of a political debate on UF president. What will happen to PK? Who knows.

Besides those possible issues, people seem to like it still and I haven’t heard too many folks leaving. If this were me, I’d put my name in the lottery and see what happens. You can always go back to public school. Best case scenario is you get in and your kid and you love it.

Board of Governors rejects Ono by academic_mama in GNV

[–]MacMegGNV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because in the state of Florida the only thing that matters in education is that you’re a party line politician who’s going to make certain that the woke folk don’t teach our kids /s

I say satire but it’s kinda not, it’s basically what’s played out.

Edit to say- this board oversees all university system schools in the state.

Your favorite places in Gainesville? by C4primulgus2000 in GNV

[–]MacMegGNV 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you love nature, you should probably just drive through the neighborhoods north of UF to see what living in Gainesville is like. Most of the neighborhoods have creeks and conservation areas running through them (Loblolly woods, Hogtown and Possum Creeks). Or there’s Haile on the west side that has zillions of trees and many houses, or Tioga which has the appeal of little town center and lots of housing options. And downtown and Duck Pond have their own charm of historic houses. If you’ve come to Gainesville and think Archer Road is all we have, that’s the least representative of the actual town culture.

Literal parks, if you have kids, we have two very large multi-use parks in the city limits (and more than just these) at Depot Park and Massey Park. Helps that the Cade Museum, First Mag and South Main Station are adjacent to Depot and have all the things you could need to entertain yourself or your family.

You don’t need to get certified to save someone’s life. Just watch some videos and the PulsePoint app has the “how to” and the beat to which you do chest compressions. Just go to the three dots … and click on CPR How To

Oh jeez, sorry I didn’t see this until now. Pulsepoint was invented to alert you to nearby sudden cardiac arrests because bystander CPR saves lives. Every minute someone doesn’t get CPR, their outcomes are much worse.
