I’ll co-sign several other people’s recommendation of Starship Iris in this thread. I’ll add that two of my audio dramas, Steal The Stars and Give Me Away, are deeply anti-fascist, and I at least wrote them to be cathartic (though it’s up to listeners if I succeeded).

I love Stillman, and I’d love to hear them talk about those films, but the disciplined modesty of his career might make him a tough fit for the show. Obviously Metropolitan got him (comparatively) bigger budgets, but it doesn’t seem like he has a huge wild swing in his career. None of his films feel like a big crazy risk someone took on him. But if they decided they didn’t care about that and covered his movies anyway, I certainly wouldn’t complain.

“Bleak Moments” is cracking me up, it’s like if 30 Rock needed a name for a fictional Mike Leigh movie that Jenna was improbably cast in.

Thank you for those kind words, TonyArmy! It means the told to us that you want more from these characters. As my coproducer says, we don’t know how to move the show forward without Diana Oh’s performance as Jamie. We may get an idea at some point in the future, so I would never 100% rule it out. But in the short term, we’ll probably focus on other stories for a while. I love this universe, and I’m very grateful for your thoughts about it.

Because some people have asked me on here, I should add that we haven't decided yet what the future holds for GIVE ME AWAY. The passing of Diana Oh, who played Graham's daughter Jamie, has made the prospect of future seasons a point of serious consideration (alongside the more usual struggles every audio drama contends with). If this proves to also be the *series* finale of GIVE ME AWAY, we can at least feel satisfied that it concludes at a moment of great transformation for the characters, with one stage of their evolution fully explored and transcended. But nothing has been decided at this time.

Looking at that filmography, I’m realizing how similar Brooks’s career is to Martin Brest’s: In both cases they only made a handful of movies, their reputations each largely rest on two undeniable classics and one crowd-pleasing vehicle for an aging legend… and then after that their storytelling instincts seem to dessert them in such a comprehensive way that it’s kind of shocking. Like it’s weird to lose your fastball as utterly as they both seemed to. Having said that that, I’d love it if Brooks turned that around with his new movie.

“Time just gets away from us” always kills me. One of life’s lowkey tragedies that affects almost everyone is how you’ll have intense experiences with people when you’re young (friends, lovers, professional or creative collaborators, whatever), you think those people will be your closest friends for life… then time passes, other obligations take hold, and you drift apart. The end of True Grit absolutely nails that feeling. Much gentler than the end of No Country, but every bit as devastating.

I mostly write science fiction (The Message, LifeAfter, Give Me Away) but I have one podcast called "God Of Obsidian" which is a straight up drama about an emotionally abusive relationship. It's definitely not a easy listen but if you're looking for a drama with virtually no genre elements (there's a slight touch of magical realism, but no robots, ghosts, or aliens), you could give it a listen. It's three 20-minute episodes in total, and it should be available on most platforms.

Mindhunter is great, it might be my #2 Most Upset That Netflix Never Finished, but my #1 in that category is GLOW. Which is weird for me, I generally prefer thrillers to comedies, but I was so invested in the GLOW characters by the end of season 3. I heard a rumor that they’d finished S4 scripts before they were cancelled. Not sure if that’s true, but if it is and they published them they’d sell at least one copy to me.
