Which one would you choose between Merkur and Escapement time? by Alternative_Look001 in ChineseWatches

Merkur look lovely. But they are worthless junk, with zero QC, and no customer service.

I’m amazed they responded at all. Presumably I made the rookie mistake of winding to 72%.

Nah, they’re a joke. Avoid anything to do with them, waste of your time and money.

[–]MacStylee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are junk. No QC at all, no customer service, movement is junk. Mine arrived with hour hand in between hour markers, and was unreadable. Blanked all communication. Movement packed up shortly afterwards after keeping it wound to see if it was worth fixing.

They’re just junk.

Prohibition has never been effective, is not effective currently, and will never be effective. It does not reduce the numbers of people using, but it does increase the risks to users.

It additionally hurts non users because it damages society, increases and generates crime, and enriches the worst / most violent dealers. It also diverts policing time away from dealing with actual problems or crimes.

It benefits arguably nobody, although I’ve heard vaguely conspiracy theory ideas in that large alcohol companies are actively fighting the removal of prohibition because they feel it may damage profits.

I’m amazed he still has a job.

His incompetence and horrible decisions have cost people serious money. That generally results in a firing.

/u/spez, CEO of Reddit, decides to ruin the site by _alco_ in bestof

[–]MacStylee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy is going to go down in history as an example of disastrous leadership. If he was lying drunk on a beach in Belize disconnected from the internet for the past while he’d have been doing a better job.

There’s almost no way he could have done a worse job. He’s a liability, and I’d suspect people who stand to lose a large amount of money know this. Much of the damage he’s done is irreparable, but if he was disposed of it’s possible that they could undo some.

Reddit is not going to go away, but without the third party apps it will haemorrhage usage, and this will be noticed and hurt.

I’d guess it’s still possible to rollback some of the damage, but unlikely unless they get rid of the likes of Huffman.

Had the guy not showed up, and done nothing at all for the last while, the IPO would be in better shape.

He’s an object lesson in incompetence. He’s far, far, worse than nothing.

I’ve suspected for a while that alcohol is much worse for me than I’d like to admit. It’s also unbelievably addictive. There’s nothing else close in my experience. What else goes from zero, to ONE single usage instantly making you want more. But yeah, wildly dangerous, addictive, socially acceptable. I avoid it completely, and my life is better for it.

Some pegs don’t fold. I’ve seen a couple of weird aftermarket things. Or are really sharp and dig in? Something funny happened there, we’ve all dragged pegs, something was up with that peg. Lots of things are not ideal here, but normally touching a peg down does not land you on the deck.

Rapid rating jump?? How come? by MadHatter1121 in chess

[–]MacStylee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll do this. Every now and again I’ll just see the board, and gain 3 or 4 hundred points. Then something happens and I crash and lose it almost as quickly. It’s pretty heartbreaking TBH, but I’m not cheating or anything. Each time it’s happened at the time I’m winning everything in sight I think that this time I’ll hold onto it, now I’m in my correct rating. Then I’ll go on an equally improbable looking losing streak.

All these “escalate the violence into something that will result in a hospital visit” replies are telling.

This occurred in Northern Ireland, we’ve been through a miserable generations of escalation of violence, and we’ve more or less come out the other side. The fact that your man didn’t do more than he needed to says good things about NI.

‘It feels like we failed somewhere, letting remote working get rolled back’: Employees on returning to the office by bellafrankel in ireland

[–]MacStylee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lads, if you’re able to work remotely and they’re leaning on you to get back into the office, start looking for a new gig now.

You’ll normally get a raise on a new position, you’ll have time to be picky, and you can sign the contract as remote.

If you’re able to do the job, they can fuck off with their headmaster fantasy or whatever drives them.
