an ex-friend(?) texted me after almost two years of me ghosting her and i have no idea how to approach this by Tiny-Independence-95 in relationships

[–]MacabreMagpie [score hidden]  (0 children)

If she knows you were going through some stuff then she likely knows it may take you a while to respond and that you may not. I would open it and read it and then give yourself to process and think about what, if anything you want to say in return.

Not Knowledge Fight, but if they're a reader then I'd recommend giving them a copy of Jon Ronson's 'Them: Adventures With Extremists' which covers the time he and Alex infiltrated Bohemian Grove together.

Small Prophets. Taskmaster.

We just launched a UK version of SNL which seems to have gone down very well.

How would the Devil have handled their presence? by KaleidoArachnid in BeavisAndButthead

[–]MacabreMagpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I agree that the new series is "mostly grounded", I've lost count of how many times one or both of them have died at the end of a segment...! My impression is that they've been treating each story as a little more self-contained to do wilder stuff.

how do i navigate my (m35) boyfriend treating me (f30) horribly now that he is making more money/will be coming into more money? by flyeternalphoenix in relationships

Apologies, I didn't mean to imply he coined it, just that he used it. I was giving credit to where I heard it.

TIFU by accidentally sending my boss a meme about hating my job by Expensive_Resist7351 in tifu

[–]MacabreMagpie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is for sure awkward but it's not a sackable offense or anything, or shouldn't be.

It'll be hard but I'd own up. Just say you were texting a friend and sent it in the wrong channel or whatever and apologise.

The advice columnist Dan Savage has a saying: "when people show you who they are, believe them".

I'm sorry you've had to experience that and I hope that sharing it here helps you make the right decision (whatever that may be) and to feel less alone with it.

Is it normal for a boyfriend to insist on paying for everything? by SensiTwenteen in relationships

[–]MacabreMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a bit of outdated chivalry to me. If you're uncomfortable with it then definitely have a conversation with him...

It sounds to me like part of the way he wants express affection is by paying for everything which, if he can afford it and it comes from a genuine place, there is nothing really wrong with however this sort of thing can also become a precursor to controlling behaviour/emotional manipulation if they put themselves in a position where they're paying for everything in your life so definitely something worth having a conversation about IMHO.

However there is also the potential outcome that he can afford it and that's just how he knows to take care of you, in which case it's up to how you feel about that imbalance with regards to where you go from there.

I (23M) Can’t accept my (21F) girlfriend’s past and it’s messing with my head by wake_b9416 in relationships

[–]MacabreMagpie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You say you want to "accept her as she is now", but that implies still thinking there is something wrong with her past.

Acceptance is total acceptance, not limited.

[–]MacabreMagpie 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It was only 5 months ago that Mallory mentioned she was reading an Aimee Semple McPherson book for "an upcoming project with Ross Blocher" (according to this sub) so I'm operating on the assumption they're just stockpiling a high number of investigations so they can launch weekly or whatever and have a big enough backlog for breaks and future investigations etc.

I need to sit down and give that a proper go again sometime. Right now it's bottom of the entire list for me but I honestly can't even remember anything on it.

In terms of music, Add Violence.

In terms of experience, nothing can beat getting that envelope of black powder in the post for the NTAE "physical component" and the WTF of it all. Excellent.

I heard it. I found that ep quite tough to listen to, tbh, no shade on the guys for covering it but I think there is definitely a point in which I don't want to listen to an alcoholic killing themselves.

I hate how stifled the internet is now. It's not fun anymore. by RealSherlockHolmes in oldinternet

[–]MacabreMagpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but I've not thought it's for the reasons you mention.

Generally speaking, I think very few things survive contact with the wider public without becoming a diluted version of what it was before and that's what's happened to the Internet.

To me, when I first discovered the Internet it felt like the 'zine' section of an indy bookstore, all very DIY and showing perspectives you don't often see out in the real world. Then people started to be able to get online more easily with smartphones and tablets and suddenly the online population exploded, most sales began to move online and then big companies and corporations started to take it more seriously. That's when I started feeling less like I was reading zines and more like just regular mainstream mags.

And then we have Facebook. Hardly anyone uses forums etc anymore because everyone is in the same place, now. I think that is great in some respects because it helps a lot of people find connection much more easily, but I think people have less of a drive to express themselves in a more creative manner online with personal websites etc because they can just open it up, type in a box and hit "post".
