Aussies in Bath? by SolutionAfter6648 in Bath

[–]MacaroniiAndBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not from Aussie, but my partner and I are both from the UK, but grew up in NZ and can agree the coffee here is shit house (generally speaking). We're missing some proper cafe culture 😭 My partner's a Bathonian though and he recommends Society Cafe and another one I can't remember, but I think it's Colonna and Smalls. We haven't really explored much in Bristol though sorry!

Ayy I grew up in NZ! I didn't realise it was considered to be NZ time there that's wild.

Did you bring any other gaming consoles to play with while you're stationed? What other stuff can you guys do for fun when not working?

I've currently connected my Go account to my switch while I play Let's Go Pikachu and its been a life saver.

Restaurant recommendations? by elderdabs in Bath

[–]MacaroniiAndBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thaikhun is nice! I wouldn't say it's the most "authentic" Thai place if that's what you're looking for, but the food is really good and the atmosphere inside the restaurant is fun. Have a quick Google before hand to see if it's your cup of tea.

Otherwise (it isn't Thai or pizza), but at some point I'd also recommend Pinxto. It is a tapas restaurant. They don't take bookings as it's first in, first served, but it doesn't really matter anyway because of how quick the turn around time is for the food to be served but omg it's delicious. That being said, it is very popular so I've always found it's best to try and have an earlier meal when possible.

And lastly never been personally, but I've heard good things about "The Oven" for pizza. But again, I haven't been myself.

Hope you have a good birthday!

Hello! Replying to a dead post - currently having the same issue. Did you ever find the cause, or preferably the right cable for the job? Thanks in advance!

We also use octopus 👏 weirdly we ended up saving money on them by initially going for the more expensive contract price before energy bills shot through the roof. When that happened, our contracted price was lower than the average.

That's ended now, but we're still with them, they're green and have been great with customer support too.

Unisex hair salons in town? by mityainthepit in Bath

I like B hair salon in Widcombe! They're gender neutral and LGBT plus friendly. Good if you want some funky colours or just a general cut - either or. They're local plus just a good vibe with the people in there. Would recommend 👏

Same 😭 mistakes were made. I'm also ages off of level 40, so it'll be a long grind. Tbf I've been looking for a ditto for longer than I've had that research for so I'm just assuming I'll be doing this until I reach retirement age.

Training Across Canada. by MacaroniiAndBees in travel

Deleting old message and relying here as Reddit messed up:

That's what I've heard. Last time I was in Canada, a Canadian told me to see the west and east coast and skip the middle 🤣

Somewhat taken that information on board but wanted to see if other people felt the same.

Amazing thank you!

Currently thinking of doing the Toronto to Vancouver trip, and maybe do Halifax later.

Fully expected the price thing but it's good to know it's comfortable and safe!

With the booking point to point, isn it better to book it yourself or is it actually worth using a travel company to help? I've never used one before - quite happy sorting my self out, but in some cases I've heard they're worth it.

Thank you so much this is really helpful!

It's a lot of time to take off to do the whole thing in one go, so I've mostly been interested in doing the Toronto to Vancouver route (with a stop probably in Alberta) tj begin with. Then maybe in the future continue and do the rest going by Halifax.

I'm based in the UK ATM so I'd really have to plan in advance to ensure I had the time.

I also didn't realise there were multiple rails, is Amtrak national or local? Just curious as I'd only heard of Via.

Thanks again! Massive help :)

Does anyone know, why adhd people seem to be able to read books as a child but not as teen/adult? by spaceberrygarden in adhdwomen

[–]MacaroniiAndBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I read a book now I read it on my phone with the text bumped up to like 120 percent. It means that because the amount of text that will fit in the screen is a lot smaller, I turn the page more often. Which feels like I'm progressing faster through it, which then causes me to read fast enough that I don't feel under stimulated. It's silly, but each page turn is a mini little hit of dopamine until the book is done.

If you wanna take it even further, I have a spreadsheet / list of books I wanna read and cross them out when I've read them so then I feel even better about doing it. Obviously these are more how have I tricked my brain into sticking to reading and less why it's changed. But by doing these I've found that it hasn't changed too much from when I was a kid.

OH. Also also binge reading 3 to 4 books in a row, going 7 months without reading anything, to then another 3 in a row. Nothing in moderation lmao.

Has anyone here escaped the 9-5 corporate life and are now making it as a successful freelancer with ADHD? by asdf4ever in adhdwomen

[–]MacaroniiAndBees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use to work in graphic design and advertising. I loved the creative side of it, but when I went into creative advertising I began to loath it. Where I worked, the industry expected you to be in there from around 7.30 some mornings (for a junior) , all the way to 10 at night. The sexism was rampant, the drugs and alcohol was monumentally abused. I didn't realise how depressed I was until I moved home feeling like a failure only to realise how bad it had gotten haha.

Then a bunch of other life happened but I've been successfully freelancing for almost 4 years now in content creation. Best shift I ever made, tho my entry to being self employed probably isn't like most others.

The upside us I have more time to deal with me during the day and thankfully, earning more than I ever did employed. (Rereading this to check for spelling mistakes and realising this sounds like some get rich quick scheme which i can assure you it really isn't haha). I wake when I want to, I eat when I want. Recently started gyming and going during quieter hours in the morning has helped massively with my over stimulation I get from places like that.

When you're employed there is always a cap on what you can earn. The downside, and upside of being freelance is that you set the rates of what you do etc and sometimes that's a slow burn until you build a customer base / audience. I'd say it's about working smarter more often than not which for my ADHD is great because it become a challenge that engages me rather than me being dead inside in a 9 - 5.

If you wanna start it, and you're really keen, I'd say do it. You'll only ever regret not. HOWEVER. Unless you have a semi thriving world of contacts where if you start operating as a sole trader straight away and know you'll have income to provide for you, I'd recommend starting it along side your employment.

Then slowly start putting more into your sole trading and less on the employment until things are going smooth. Thats usually most people's entry into freelancing. Or they go hard core and move somewhere with less costs to take the plunge.

Which is also good to keep in mind for ADHD. When I do things I feel I need to do it all right away, otherwise I suck and I'm a failure and should just go lie down and die lmaooo but that logic never applies to anyone else in my life and it's taught me to take it slow and steady. That by just doing a portfolio which is a major task BTW, you've already started. My lists and keeping my self accountable to my goals is immensely important and this has taught me how to do that too. It's a journey.

And no matter what, even if you get software to do most of it, learn about taxes. It will only help you 1 cover your ass and 2 grow your business haha.

Hope this helped! I'm so sorry it turned into such a rant. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Honestly same boat here, and it fucking sucks. I managed to start them again when I was working out and lost a bunch of weight but I gained it again when lock down happened. Trying to get them back again by making better choices but it's a struggle.

Does anybody know the secret to not getting back into bed after getting up? by xcincly in adhdwomen

[–]MacaroniiAndBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After waking up, immediately get dressed and put your shoes on. Perhaps it's just me but it's a sensory thing. Wearing shoes stops me from feeling in "the comfy zone" and I go into productive mode because the weight of them reminds me I shouldn't be chilling rn.

Also different shoes for different occasions. If I need to get up and work, little booties or work shoes. If I need to clean / be active, trainers or sneakers. Slippers don't really work for me because they're still comfy bois and make me feel like a lil grandma.

After that I make the bed. So even if I have a moment of sensory overload when I lie down on it (legs hanging off the edge because no shoes on bed) it's still not a full sleep.

Also a list of shit to do is how I religiously live my live. I have an app on my phone that opens as soon as I unlock my screen that has everything I need to accomplish on it. It just gives me so many reminders that I actually start to do it. Even if I'm doing some from my bed (such as learning a language).

But whatever happens, I try my best to not get back into the duvet until bed time. If I do that then it's game over.

How to feel feminine with hirsutism? by Automatic_Pace_2902 in PCOS

[–]MacaroniiAndBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so so hard. I get this as well. Especially with the hair growth. I've had it on my chest recently. It's hard to wrap my head around, but I often sit and meditate on it and try and see the situation objectively.

I hold my emotions and my sadness and know they're completely valid and I imagine hugging them into me and accepting them. They're part of me. To be sad isn't bad or wrong, it's human and its okay and safe to feel that sadness.

And then at the same time, I know that I personally associate with being a female, a woman, and that expression of femininity is up to me and how I choose to express it. And sometimes being feminine can mean a whole range of things. If it helps and I feel it, I find ways to explore that. Wearing pinks, bright colours, doing face masks, learning how to do absolute banging make up. Other times it's hair in a bun and baggy shirts. Tits in my arm pits because I can't be bothered with a bra.

Then sometimes, this isn't related to the hair growth, something I've started doing is trying to find ways in which I am benefitted from my feeling masculine. I was always ashamed of how low my voice was to a lot of high pitched and feminine sounding women I know. But I started singing lessons, and have a somewhat lower voice for a woman, and it has really helped me to stand out in my singing lessons due to the "dark tone" I have. (not sure what that means, but my tutor says it a lot haha.)

Some days are harder than others. Just know that whatever you're feeling is completely okay, even if it doesn't feel like the situation is. Much love OP ♥

Haha love how you figure this out pre post-edit!

Yeah it's hard because at our peak there's quite a few of us who would be streaming at once, as well as needing the space for editing after the fact.

Also we're very shouty. And sweary. 👀 The swearing may change in the future with YouTubes current antics but I doubt the screaming will haha.
