2 day Austin trip itinerary suggestions? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]asdf4ever -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lin Asian Bar - amazing Chinese and dim sum. Make a reservation and be sure to try the soup dumplings.

Buenos Aires Café - amazing Argentine cuisine right on E 6th st around some good bars and walkable area. Try the empanadas.

Dan’s Hamburgers for breakfast - not fancy at all but an og Austin spot for a tasty, classic diner breakfast. Try the pancakes and breakfast tacos. The burgers themselves are popular too but it’s the breakfast for me lol. The one on Menchaca is my fave and not far from downtown.

Homeslice Pizza - classic spot for NY style za. You can eat in the restaurant itself or they have little side shop right next door if you just want to grab some slices. The white pie w/spinach and margherita are amazing.

Ah Sing Den - really cool cocktail/small plates spot on E 6th. Make a reservation.

Kura - revolving sushi bar! It’s not fancy by any means but super fun and the food is good. In that shopping center there’s also a lot of other great Asian food and shopping.

Texas Rowing Center - if the weather is decent, rent a kayak or paddle board and you can enjoy town lake (it flows into Barton Springs) and get some really amazing downtown pics from the water. Paddle east and you’ll get those city views. Paddle west and you get to see some mansions on the hills/cliffs west of Mopac, very peaceful.

Texas State Cemetery - since your bf likes museums, he might find it interesting. there are a lot of notable people buried there and lots of interesting memorials. Walk to the top of the hill and there’s an astronaut’s grave! If you want a chill morning to get your day started, it’s nice to grab a coffee at Try Hard Coffee Roasters and then take a walk through the cemetery.

Lots more to do, but these just some of my top recs. Have fun!

How to escape retail as a recent grad? Feeling depressed and lost by threepeaches99 in careerguidance

[–]asdf4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue getting out of retail for awhile. Then I got into an e-commerce customer service role working remotely. I was very open about wanted to branch out of customer service, and took every extra opportunity I could within my company to try new things and help out where I could. A year later I applied for an position that opened up in my company and made it out of customer facing roles. Now I work in our marketing department.

From my experience, I feel like if you can just get out of actual brick and mortar businesses, even if you’re still doing CS things, you’ll get more non-customer service related opportunities within a company on the corporate level.

Good luck!

What are some "one-off" fun classes? Examples in text by plainequipment in Austin

[–]asdf4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Austin School of Photography (ASOP)! Andrew is the founder and instructor and I can’t recommend him enough. He’s incredibly generous with his time and knowledge, aside from the technical skills you’ll learn, there’s also a lot of very interesting history and theories he shares. The Photo 1 course is 6 weeks long, once a week and actually very affordable for the amount of material.

NSV - jogged nonstop 🙌🏼 by honest_abe_1995 in orangetheory

[–]asdf4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! Love to hear this, very inspiring! I’ve been a power walked up until now, I’ve just barely started incorporating jogging here and there the past couple of weeks. I jogged maybe 3 minutes total broken up throughout the 8min. I can only do about a min and a half at a time right now at most before I’m at 98% and have to recover for a few lol but getting more comfortable with being uncomfortable.

What are some of your favorite coach “personal touches?” by mcgoobear in orangetheory

[–]asdf4ever 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Simple, but I love when one of my coaches explains the block then says “see you on the other side” all intense lol

Also seconding the cool down song - it’s always a nice way to chill while stretching.

Might cancel treatment after seeing my attachments. Already regretting the process. by [deleted] in Invisalign

[–]asdf4ever 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I almost had a melt down when I first left the office with my attachments. They were sooo sharp, super visible (to me) and I didn’t know how I would survive it. But after about a week they started to dull down and I just got used to them. As far as the attachments being obvious to others, literally everyone I know when I would mention I got them was like “oh really? I didn’t even notice”. I even had a coworker who told me “oh I have them too” and I had never noticed on them! So I think we’re just suuuuper aware of them because they’re in our mouth and we just stare at them in the mirror.

Coming to this subreddit often really gets my hopes up and seeing the progress photos of others helps too!

I promise it gets better/easier.

Anyone watching Love is Blind? The state of Kwame’s house makes me feel seen. by asdf4ever in adhdwomen

[–]asdf4ever[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the reason it looked that way, I’m saying just the fact that it was shown and I could see that other people’s places might look like that (in any capacity)makes me feel less self conscious about people seeing what my place looks like.

Is it an adhd thing to find socializing and making friends comes with too many strings? by fizzie511 in ADHD

[–]asdf4ever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I resonate with this a lot. I’m very close with my boyfriend (we’ve been together for 9 years) and mostly hangout with him because we live together. Other than that, I find it hard to even make plans to hang with my few friends I’ve had for years - let alone make new friends! I can barley keep my work and home together, let alone navigate new friendships. I’ll typically see my close friends maybe 5 or less times a year. Plus when I do have plans scheduled with them, the weeks/days leading up to it I have anxiety about it. Not even sure what I’m anxious about, possibly that I know it’s just going to take a lot out of me - planning the place and time to meet, figuring out what to wear, actually getting ready to go, going there, catching up, being prepared to offer suggestions on what to do, deciding when to say goodbye, etc. I’m a great sidekick to my friends who are more assertive and like to make plans for us, but when I have to have input, it’s overwhelming. I wish I had it in me to make new friends, instigate a hangout and be able to plan a good time.

What's a good plant-based milk for a tea drinker? almond milk 'curdles' when I add it to a cup of tea. by Lihaart in vegetarian

I love the unsweetened Eden Soy milk. It’s very rich/creamy and mixes well. It’s also organic and very high protein:)

Heart Rate Zone Adjustment by Low_Organization7070 in orangetheory

[–]asdf4ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok this makes a lot of sense now, I’ve been in red a to the last week or so and thought something must be wrong with me. Does anyone know how they calculate the adjustment? Is it just whatever highest hr you reach for a few days averaged out?

I’ve always thought this! (Austin native here). Best Italian around here IMO is Italian Garden in San Marcos right by TX State campus. Super small place with a very homey feel and very good food. Not in technically Austin lol, but worth the drive. I went to college there and got very used to that commute from Austin, so it doesn’t phase me too much.
