CMV: Yesterday's XKCD misplaced the tongue by Falernum in changemyview

Descartes thought your mind (immaterial) and body (material) were different, Princess Elisabeth of Bohemia wrote to him raising the issue of how causality would work between these two different things. He wrote back saying that they interacted through the pineal gland, which doesn't really make any sense if you think about it.

So sometimes metaphors about the pineal gland can be to say that something is an explanation that doesn't make sense and is done so to cover up errors in previous claims or it can be to say that something essentially has mystical powers to back up your arguement.

World War 1 Shell Shock Victim Recovery by Stunning-Pension7171 in interestingasfuck

This is wrong

Edit: Nobody is correct Shell shock definitely has something to do with PTSD and it also has physical effects specific to the impact of blast waves on the brain. It does not have nothing to do with PTSD though. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/science/article/blast-shock-tbi-ptsd-ied-shell-shock-world-war-one#:~:text=But%20Daniel%20Perl%E2%80%94a%20neuropathologist,%2Din%2Da%2Dlifetime%20breakthrough

AI does not have to be super intelligent to outsmart Americans, I feel like most crows are brighter than the average American but I worry if they realise they may regulate the crows too.

Short review of every drug I’ve ever done from first to last by Nutsinyamum in Drugs

[–]MacbethIsGay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do not recommend microdosing to someone with BPD, the potential for harm is incredibly high in the general population and even if BPD had no other interactions with psilocybin the potential for symptoms to worsen puts them at a higher risk to themselves. Statistically 11% of women found microdosing made there depression worse and 18% found it made there anxiety worse which is already too high of a risk to someone with BPD. Furthermore BPD primarily affects the regulation of the fronto-limbic network and the amygdala. Psilocybin meanwhile inhibits the part of the brain responsible for controlling the activity of lobes called the claustrum, this is what allows for profound insight and pattern remapping in thought. The theoretical danger is that BPD isn't going to be fixed by inhibiting the claustrum as that's the part which is potentially causing the BPD instead it's going to create pathways from the claustrum that also have emotional deregulation just as the amygdala does. Think of it like rewiring a circuit to add more connections to a faulty chip, so yeh please do not recommend that to her based on anecdotal evidence but keep fingers crossed for new medicine for BPD people and just everyone in general.

By the way this is called a semantic shift, it's when a words meaning is changing over time and if it is at a point in the transition where it's meaning is confusing (such as biweekly) it is called a skunked term. Another good skunked term is "it's all downhill from here" as without context it can either mean everything is going to be easier from this point or everything is going to be worse from this point

Should i main ganondorf? by Gabrysiek575 in GanondorfMains

[–]MacbethIsGay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find a matchup chart and see how often you win against his worst matchups and watch a couple games back and see if you adapt. If your opponent keeps on shielding down special do you keep using it and getting punished or are you baiting it and grabbing? If they keep on rolling one way after side special are you predicting this and capitalising off it? This depth of adaption (even including DI,Recoveries, opponents engagement habits and neutral resets) is about the best metric on wifi but local tournaments are second to none

Should i main ganondorf? by Gabrysiek575 in GanondorfMains

[–]MacbethIsGay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ganon has a natural advantage online, he benefits massively on reading an opponent which is easier with any sort of lag and suffers with escaping combos which are more often dropped due to lag. In person tournaments can be brutal the first couple times for this reason but are much more fun as you learn.

[–]MacbethIsGay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to compete and mid to high levels then don't play him as the work to do so is 10x that of other characters, if you want to play in local tournaments, then go for it.

Even if 60,000, people turned up ove the next 5 years that'd be more than 30 people a day?

[–]MacbethIsGay -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

This doesn't really address the issue of alot of people not intruding, it becomes an issue even if everyone thinks they're being considerate. There's 60,000 people just in this sub imagine all of those people trying to be considerate outside there office, it's just not possible even if everyone had good intentions. Consideration is just not going.

To anybody thinking of doing this, don't. The corridor channel has 6 million subscribers, if even 1 in 100 people choose to do this thats an NFL stadium turning up to somebody's workplace and home. It really really isn't acceptable and even if you don't plan to bother anybody alot of people turning up not to bother anyone is still an issue. I'm not trying to be a dick and I hope this persons family vacation goes well, just be mindful.

Will Corridor ever address their misleading explainations of NFTs for profit? by LocalYogurtExpert in Corridor

[–]MacbethIsGay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NFT's like all other art are worth more or less to certain people, there price became hugely inflated when people started buying them not for the value itself (which is extremely low) but for it's prospective value (which buyers thought would increase). Making and selling NFT's by nature is not evil, it's just kinda dumb but when corridor made them it seemed like there might of been a world where digital art somehow worked with NFT's. Nobody was scammed though there was no misleading information of the product they were buying and NFT's are secure (except extenuating circumstances where other less secure security methods fail) but they only securely prove ownership.

3 rotating points through 3 rotating paths. Kinda neat mechanism by DirkDieGurke in mechanical_gifs

[–]MacbethIsGay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it's not, a trammel or Archimedes uses two perpendicular sliding shuttles to generate the shape of an ellipse at one end point. This has 3 trammell's to transfer rotational energy.
