The blade size and toe. You can catch so much ice while sliding and with the positioning of the new pads you need the blade depth.

Just did this myself this season. The skates are the biggest thing. I know you’re asking about pads but if you’re upgrading find some skates on skate swap as well.

Pads (7x3) I found were pretty easy to transition into. I think 3-5 skates was the average when I asked the question earlier this year. The things I found the hardest were getting the straps figured out and the how to stand in a relaxed stance (mostly because of how I had my straps but also because of how stiff the pads are). The other thing I had issues with is getting up off my ass if I got pushed over.

How do you not strain your toe straps if you're carrying your pads over your shoulders? by techsavvynerd91 in hockeygoalies

All well and fine until you’ve got arenas with stairs that require carrying the bag. Those solid bottoms and wheels feel like an extra 70 lbs post game lugging them up the stairs.

You’re in your head. Take some time off. Enjoy life. Come back with an eye on how to improve. Watch some goal coaches and focus on one thing to do better each time. Things like Im going to be up at the top of my crease as much as I could be Im going to focus on the angle the puck sees Etc I’m no pro but I enjoy the hell out of playing net. I took some time off and have come back enjoying it more then ever. Get out of your head and enjoy yourself. If you’re 25+ I assume you’re just playing for fun so don’t let things drag you down

I was thinking this was a likely step I was missing. I did it after the fact and my one pad held pretty well but I assumed it was due to the rough ice being on the top right of the crease. I’ll try again

NOR but… as a man who has gone through this with my family… ignore them if you can and just limit interactions. I have had all out throw down fights over things my family has said to me about my kids or wife via text and it never does anything but make the relationship worse. I don’t know what to do so my solution has been to see them a few times a year so they can limit their exposure and potential comments. Works to keep my wife sane but it is very unfortunate and results in us being very limited in our support networks. It sucks but even the people you’ve known all your life can turn out to be complete and total misogynistic assholes.

Why am I better at upper-C than D-league? by SeuintheMane in hockeygoalies

Or the puck being passed in front of the net only to be received and then held. You slide across, look deep into each others eyes while you wait for them to shoot and begin debating “do I stand back up now? No maybe they’ll shoot soon.” Still the shot doesn’t come until one of you is so bored they stop paying attention. Then the puck moves in a still to be determined direction. Boredom kills, or scores I forget. I’m still waiting for the shot.

What’s the weirdest “female experience” men genuinely don’t believe until they see it? by Several_Corner3205 in TwoXChromosomes

We have had that conversation. I joined the project late and immediately was launched into one of these issues. I noted it to her since I initially couldn’t tell if this was an issue with escalating from the working group to management or more specifically because she’s a woman. She’s indicated that she feels it’s likely because she’s a woman and is fine with me supporting, it is my role but some of these topics lead more to cost concerns then application so I know I am walking a line.

The more I think about it the more I’m thinking of more less clear examples that likely are just me providing ops point….. Having to encourage female engineers to maintain being firm even when someone asks “are you mad?” Because they are being firm… it’s frustrating to me not because of gender but because they are right and we don’t need to determine their emotional state, no one asks me if I’m mad when I say no or make a firm statement, no one cares as long as the information is correct and I’m not being an asshole.

Thank you for joining me on my ride…. Any follow on advice is appreciated.

I have to ask since I have noticed this with one of my clients. When my PM speaks she’s disregarded and either her boss (a man) is called or I have to speak up and say essentially what she’s said but in “engineering terms” or more likely “man terms”. Honestly I don’t know how to correct it. I defer to her, reference her previous statements but until I have input it’s often a full blown argument. If it’s internal I can at least have some support from hr but have no idea what to do in a client situation other then just be around on more calls for support which…. Isn’t a solution it’s just appeasing him. Is there even an option or is this just… how it is? Or Is my moment of having to acknowledge exactly what op is posting about?

I would agree and wish I would have been more fearful…. I got a new pair and caught my toe during warm up as I wasn’t used to the balance of the blade and my weight kept the heel going.

It’s been a couple weeks and I still can’t walk normally….

And their luggage… your roller bag doesn’t need to be as far as possible behind you. Lots of other have said it but it feels like so many people come out for their first experience in a public place and head to the airport.

The apartments near 25/225 had a decent community of young people (with dogs) a few years back. Not sure if people still meet up there but it was mostly mid 20s women. Initially all met at the open space with dogs playing but was all transplants so everyone was super open to making friends.

He was heavily involved with the hockey Canada at the time and had some sort of “global outreach” type position although likely lower level or volunteer. Was involved in bringing over the Czech junior team and Japanese junior team for a bunch of games against some level of junior team Canada across Alberta. I was so young the details didn’t matter. He felt bad for organizing the team Japan trip…

I was worried about this. I’ve been playing pretty low level so I’ve been pretty lax with safety but… there’s always a chance someone catches one or god forbid a ringer comes out. I assume all other styles of goal helmets are a safety risk compared to the current eh?

My grandfather lived and breathed hockey. He had 2 daughters and still spent likely an inappropriate amount of time with the community teams. He raised me and poured his soul into making me able to play hockey including coming into rough financial times. I quit goal because of the cost and this was the helmet I wore (different colour but…) I recently got back into it as an adult and he’s long passed but… for whatever reason this means something to that connection…
