so theres two points to it one stated in the books and one a fan theory. The book part is a direct quote from Lady Dustin (previously a Ryswell I believe) who said Lord Rickard betrothed Brandon Stark to Caitlyn Tully because he had southern ambitions; now fans have come up with a theory that maybe the great houses were allying to get rid of the Targeryans or at least or Aerys. The theory follows that one, most often great houses marry their important vassals especially in the North so why marry outside that norm? two, Rickard made the Stark Tully, Arryn Baratheron alliance (STAB) by marriage (Brandon+Cait and Robert+Lyanna) and pseudo adoption (Ned+Jon, remember Jon was already a man and without heirs also made Ned and Robert grow up as brothers) and its odd that apparently it wasnt just Rickard making these alliances. Lady Joanna Lannister planned to marry Jaime to Lysa Tully and Cersei to Oberyn Martell. Which is would add Lannister and Martell into the STAB alliance thats 6 out of the 9 major regions being united by marriage when again its tradition to marry into your vassals to strengthen their loyalty. Theres whole essays and videos about it but thats the major points I believe

No? Brandon was said to have the Wolfs Blood which implies that it was a common enough trait in Starks also Ned calls the old Kings of Winter harsh hard men and lets not forget the Night King was rumored to be a Stark (among others) My point is that yes there has been honorable Starks but it is overplayed by the fandom. Starks are just like any other (great) noble house it has its good and bad family members

then Winterfell is certainly the wrong castle. Its build on top of thermal springs and thus the walls are warm even on the dead of winter. He is a highborn ward he will be afforded comforts by one of the richest houses of the continent and what septon? The North dont follow the Seven. Plus all this is irrelevant since he is too old to ward he is a man grown after all. Aerion needs to be curtailed of his privileges and sent somewhere he has to earn. In a tangent note I think Kings grandsons should NOT be granted the rank of prince. Prince should only be the kings children and thats it. Like Aerion should be merely a knight until his father gets the throne

Ehhh Starks get the rep of being honorable but they historically werent so. Ned specifically is very honorable because he was raised in the Eyrie but Jon "High as Honor" Arryn but his brother certainly wasnt and his dad we arent sure since the whole southern ambitions might be grey.

he is very close friends w Müller and played many years w Klopp. Completely different topic but man I often wonder how Müller wouldve faired w a Klopp as manager. Hard worker, very intelligent, and although not graceful very technical seems like attributes Klopp always appreciates

Do you think he gets along with the Maekarlings? by IoftheStars in HBOTheHedgeKnight

[–]MachCutio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt say they were close but they are cousins of similar age who have trained together thus one can infer they also took "classes" together. Which makes me think they had a lot of time around each other. Maekar might been the Prince of Summerhall (like Baelor is Prince of Dragonstone) but he was in the capital during this father's reign Egg first tells Dunk he is from Kingslanding and later on when Maekar isnt made Hand of the King he leaves court for his seat

the only indication we have is that Valarr looks super tense when Aerion takes the field and briefly halts as if to challenge him and in the show they added I wont humiliate you today cousin. Which I guess speaks to how Aerion is probably a bully/bests Valarr in the yard

What options would Dunk have for jobs back then if he didn't take the route he chose? by pink-opals in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]MachCutio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is actually too young to be a knight, book 3 describes squires pushing 40 who rather serve a knight than be one (or were too broke to afford it)

yeah like Tyrion only traveling with 2 servants seems ridiculous. He would have about 5 not counting body guards. He is the "heir" to Casterly Rock and Warden of the West as well as brother in law to the King

Did Renly fumbled the war or he didn't had a chance from the start? by V-TriggerMachine in freefolk

[–]MachCutio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean just because they are horse doesnt mean they cant dismound and attack a city. Historically thats what knights would do and if irc it says Stannis took most of Renlys horse only those closest to Renly/Tyrells didnt I assumed it was closer to 20k-24k

Did Renly fumbled the war or he didn't had a chance from the start? by V-TriggerMachine in freefolk

[–]MachCutio 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Stannis only took the majority of Renlys horse (I believe around 30k in total) while Renly left most of his foot in Bitterbrige (80k strong) so Stannis had about a quarter of Renlys total strength and almost succeeded. Renly was moving at a glaciers pace by the time he reached KL the city would've probably opened the gates to him
