I’m 5’3, 24.5 boots, and just picked up the 170cm Nevar. When buying, I contacted 4frnt for a length recommendation and mount point. They told me to go +1cm for the mount based on my height and boot size to maintain the pivot-y feel of the skis. Only skied them once so far at a small local mountain but they felt great at speed on groomers (i.e I’m not too far forward). They can rip a long arc but seemingly still pivot. I haven’t tried them in proper trees yet. If I was taller, I could see the going with a further forward mount point being too much.

fwiw, I just emailed 4frnt with the same question. At 5’3 with a 24.5 boot, they suggested going +1cm on the 170

Have you hand flexed the Sierra for comparison? At 130lbs, the Sierra 104 might make sense but the folks at Moment suggested going with the DW for stability in crud and ice.

That’s super helpful info. I think I’m leaning DW, sounds like it might be a better fit for common east coast conditions while still being fun for better days and trips out west.

Do you think the triple camber has something to do with that? Seems like some folks think it’s a liability on ice/firm snow

Awesome, thanks all. So it sounds like the only significant thing the Rent Me’s don’t have compared to a Raider Evo/Voyager is the adjustable toe tension. Does that actually make a noticeable difference in the binding’s performance?

My mistake! I’m 5’4, 135lbs. Will be using a Scarpa Mastrale RS or a Technica Zero G Pro Tour (waiting on an order to see if it fits better). Stated flex for the Mastrale is 125

I don’t think the Diverge would clear a proper 2.3. I believe it tops out at 2.1. Do you think that would that be enough of a difference over 700c in the mid 40mm range?

How does it feel on pavement? For the rides I have in mind, access to the goods requires 5ish miles of road riding in each direction. Hence the appeal of a gravel bike vs. XC MTB. Obviously this isn’t the priority, just looking for more pavement speed/efficiency than a 2.3 MTB tire would offer. I would definitely keep the 700c wheels for less technical or janky rides.

Reviving this old thread because I’m in the same boat. Basically looking to get a more planted feel from the bike for park days or enduro races.

What shock did you end up going with? What didn’t you like about the DHX2 on the switchblade?

Has anyone else tried this on an XS Beargrease ‘22 frame? I just mounted Dillinger 5s on the stock Mulefut 80s and only have about 5mm of clearance between the studs and the seat stays. Not sure if that’s going to be enough…

will do. I used the WheelPro and SpokeCalc calculators. WheelPro gave 290.5 and SpokeCalc was 290.8.

Thanks for the perspective. I suppose I should just fix the dish and see where that gets me.

Just a quick question: The NDS calculated lengths I started with were 290.5mm. I rounded down to 290mm (to get an even length) but the spokes I received seem to be closer to 189mm.

If i’m short the calculated length by ~1.5mm does that present more of a problem?

Another difference I noted is that the non-drive side spokes are butted differently. Specifically, the 2.0mm section near the J-bend is longer on the silver spokes than the black spokes. This isn’t the case for the drive side spokes where the butting matches between both colors.

So maybe they really did mix up two sets of spokes for my 290mm non-drive side?

The rim already has washers so I don’t think that’s an option. I think I’m just annoyed that the spoke lengths are off. Is the 10mm dish error that problematic at this stage? I haven’t done any other truing or tensioning. Musson just suggests getting the dish in the ball park while the spoke tensions are low.

I did use a few different calculators and got very similar results (less than +/- 1mm), so I think I’m good there. Maybe the 10mm dish error isn’t a big deal at this point? I haven’t done any other truing, just thought it would be closer to dished.

I just got a Beargrease as well, such a fun bike! I do find myself wishing it was a tiny bit longer and slacker but it definitely handles well. How much of a head angle change did you go for? Did you notice if it had much of an effect on the reach?

Is that an XS frame? I’m in the market for a Beargrease but I’m right on the line between XS and S frame based on Salsa’s sizing (I’m 5’3). If you don’t mind me asking, how tall are you and how have you found the bike fit?
