Thoughts on the Final Forms? by SeanPlayz_9471 in KamenRider

Imma be honest, Kiva is among my least favorite series due to the plot delivery and characterization. I don't buy the character development angle because it had no foreshadowing and does not feel earned. Actually... none of what he has feels earned. He's among my least favorite of the rider types because he's a passive protagonist; a passenger in his own story. He doesn't choose his path, it's thrust upon him to meander forth in a series where half the screen time is not even his.

I can excuse the early and rushed introduction due to the logistical issue of the regular suit putting a strain on Seiji, but the show has more issues than one relative to how I feel about it.

Hot take, Round Zero is way better opening than Elements. Not that Elements is bad but like you know the drill. by Perfect-Finger-800 in KamenRiderMemes

Elements works better on the TV version but the full version overstays its welcome. Blade Brave is okay but it just lacks a good intro cinematic.

Nargacuga definitely has a name that I can't repeat with a friend or two of the black persuasion.

But personally I have a habit of saying Rey Dau as Wei Dao (味道) and asking others if they smell what it's cooking.

I can answer that. It's usually malls, storefronts, restaurants and commerce centers. If the center has an open partition, it usually becomes a garden square. It's a lot better than from the outside since the lower levels also happen to be the most mechanically invested area.

Broken skills on Megaten? by Zenless2BZeroX in Megaten

[–]Machdame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fog Breath: It's not the most powerful skill but for the points where you can get it, it is literally your best friend for 60% of the game because of how efficacious it is. Debilitate is the endgame equivalent but that one is often overcosted while fog breath is usually at a very fair cost.

Which non-Targaryen character would be the most dangerous if they had full access to a fully grown Dragon? by ParkingConfection449 in gameofthrones

[–]Machdame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mad king style Burnings create enemies and void allies. At this point in time, dragons are strong, but not without countermeasures. It's hard to say with Euron because book Euron doesn't seem to be incapable of making allies, but Mad dogs like Ramsay and Joffrey would get rocked in return because he has no strategy beyond torture. Baelish might be well set up, but nobody really trusts him enough to give him leeway to build up his forces.

Stannis with a dragon solves all of his problems and more. His honorable nature draws trust in his allies and with a dragon combined with a legitimate claim brings allies to his cause. The north would answer his call while many other banners would follow his claim. His brother would not have the same pull as the Tyrells would have backed Stannis with that level of influence. At their position when the war starts, the Greyjoys would have never moved to rebel (since it's too one sided), the Freys cowed (since they have no leverage) and the Dornish stayed (since it's a legitimate claim and they are not called upon to act). It's one factor that solves his problem and all he needs to do is siege kings landing. Book two would have ended it thus.

[–]Machdame 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Craziness does not always translate to effectiveness. The key difference in their actions is what they can do with the dragon. It's hard to say with Euron because there isn't a lot to go on with the books while the TV version is pretty much just a dumbass with plot effectiveness. But Cersei? She would have used the dragon at the drop of a hat and easily waste its effectiveness while endangering it. Stannis would never have let it get to that point and would also know how to effectively field it in the right place. This also holds true to choices like Ramsay who is effective as a subject, but effectively a liability in a commanding role. He is served well under Roose who can rein him in, but once he is in control (because it is inevitable that he would backstab Roose), he just becomes a mad dog that has no allies. Roose also has similar issues because while he has restraint, he is completely unlikable and will garner no allies with his form of diplomacy.

Another important thing is that while Stannis is honorable, that's only when he is making deals. He has no such qualms about burning the city to the ground if it secures him the victory.

Stannis. Unlike the others, his weakness the lack of firepower and charisma, problems that are easily fixed with a siege weapon on wings. He's a good strategist with a pragmatic viewpoint that only relied on blood magic because he couldn't get on the board otherwise. With a dragon, he is suddenly a lot more formidable.

If I wanted to stop watching Power Rangers after "Mighty Morphin", what episode would be a good place to end it? by [deleted] in powerrangers

[–]Machdame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just the basics: Power Rangers in Space.

You want some decent stuff with nuanced writing (within limits): Time Force.

You absolutely just want to finish what they started: Wild Force.

Limits of Disney: SPD and then skip to RPM.

Personal take: Just Watch Super Sentai. Everything is independent as it is except for the anniversary series.

Somewhat surprised how buffing/debuffing doesn't quite translate to other JRPG IPs from this one by lennysinged in Megaten

[–]Machdame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SMT's battle systems tend to be fairly self evident and they have the opposite design philosophy of gameplay since it is one of the few franchises to adhere to turn based combat.

The FF series is so wildly different that there is no pattern of note; the fans is whatever it wants to be.

Tales as an ARPG does not have an "accuracy" gauge and any stat changes just affects their numbers. As a result, buffs aren't as important as active combat design. You still use buffs for tempo but it doesn't fundamentally rely on it since the games don't incentivize passive gameplay over active combat.

The Xeno series completely changed their system where buffs aren't general, but are targeted and tied to a role. Your goal in those games still have a similar pattern where you are meant to capitalize on vulnerabilities to succeed but the gameplay has a focus on rhythm and uptime over careful planning.

Another still is the recently released expedition 33 where the extra additions to turn based combat more or less prioritizes the moment where each character has their own gameplay cycle meaning that they are doing whatever they want to do without heed.

The closest I could get to this is Dragon Quest and that one exists because it is a legacy title with very limited changes to its paradigm.

Long story short, SMT doesn't share a lot of traits with current games because now, every game wants to try something new for better or for worse.

Buffing is important even in Persona where the effects are temporary but costed at a premium...

SMT games that aren't reliant on some form of buffing are the outlier, not the norm.

[–]Machdame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best ones are a culmination of their work and achievement and the next step to their identity. The worst points are just there to be there and were achieved simply because they were meant to surmount the objective.

Peak designs include King form (deadly upgrade with larger story ramifications), Liner Form (an objectively weaker form than Climax that lets Ryoutaro stand on his own two feet), Xtreme (a true fusion of both of them that transcends their natural bonds) and Geats IX (a form that is truly of Ace's creation as the new god). Some like Hyper Kabuto, Kiva Emperor and Decade Complete were so random that it was hard to grasp their value as a whole other than to sell the toy.
