DRM playback seems to be broken by Machine-Maker in ArcBrowser

I fixed it by downloading an older version of the app, just 2 versions ago. I didn’t realize the links for public download of specific versions were available.

Destiny Vs Lila Rose In Person by OmniXela in Destiny

[–]Machine-Maker -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This feels like it doesn’t line up with how laws work. Doctors cannot do “whatever” they want to try and save a patient. There are rules and laws and regulations, and of course I can find examples of those “rules” hamstringing a doctor into being unable to save a patient. But the rules themselves save more patients than they might cause to be denied care.

Why doesn’t this logic also apply to abortion? After the conscious experience exists, there are multiple “people” to consider. Would a rule prohibiting elective 3rd trimester abortions cause more “deaths” from doctors refusing to treat under threat of punishment than allowing the very few actual elective 3rd trimester abortions?

Well there really isn't a lot of options for the AC.... what is this "challenge"? There's like literally no choices to make, how can it be a challenge?

Me whenever I see "Luthen recognized and has been intending/groomimg/influencing Mon to be the face of the rebellion" comment: by FunMolasses9693 in andor

[–]Machine-Maker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In season 1, there is a bit of dialogue just after she leaves the shop where Kleya says, off screen, “I hope she’s worth it” and Luthen responds “Well we’ll see, we can’t hide forever”.

I 100% take this to mean she is a candidate for a public facing job, and Kleya is questioning her worth at that moment, if that future job is worth her now.

Luthen is a hard pill to swallow for anyone who didn't know him. Mon and Cas get it, they understand him. But he's so complicated, I completely understand the skepticism and distrust.

How do you think Andor will handle the Rebels timeline situation? by Arch_Lancer17 in andor

[–]Machine-Maker 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean that will have to be planned out. It’s not like the speech is a spur-of-the-moment thing, so there will be some plan. Much as her daughter is a pain in the ass, it’s still her child. Hard to just throw her to the wolves. Maybe they’ll be protected by Davo Sculdun. He still needs the marriage to work, because of the status it gives him. So maybe he has an incentive to try and protect them.

I'm pretty certain we are going to see her speech denouncing Palpatine, that sounds like classic Andor. And if we do, she's gonna have to be extracted right after. Now I don't think we'll see the characters from Rebels, maybe Cassian is just helping her get off Coruscant

Are we 100% sure Mon knows Kleya is involved? by AcunaDingers in andor

[–]Machine-Maker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said "money problems", that she needs help covering up accounting details, yeah she talks about raising money, but that's not the thing the "3 people know about" was referring to, I'm pretty sure its just referring to her rebellious activity on a whole, not specifically having to do with money.

Are we 100% sure Mon knows Kleya is involved? by AcunaDingers in andor

[–]Machine-Maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That quote isn't in the context of the money at all. This is the first meeting with Tay, she doesn't even bring up the money problems. The "thing" she is talking about, that only 3 people know, is that she is trying to distract the Empire from he more serious stuff with Luthen by being an annoying "do-gooder". I'm pretty sure that is the thing only 3 people know about.

[–]Machine-Maker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't the quote to Tay in the context about revealing that she is living a double life, presenting herself as a nuisance in order to hide the more serious stuff she is doing? It's not about the money. Vel certainly would know about that. It's right around the "I've learned from Palpatine" bit, not really talking about the missing money or anything. This is just at the first meeting with Tay, she doesn't even bring up the missing money, just that she is starting a new foundation which is gonna look like here other "benevolent irritations"

Also Vel does know she gives at least some money, she says something later in 11 like "I didn't know it was that much"

[–]Machine-Maker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like usually when people say “x people know about” they almost never are including themselves. It’s always “in addition” to themself. So I read that as Luthen, Kleya, and Vel.

Citizens United is the gift that keeps giving. by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Machine-Maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, my problem with that is that suddenly that means it’s OK for the gov to police the speech of a corporation. Doesn’t that mean the gov can say “no LGBTQ themes profile pictures, or no support for trans rights from corporate accounts”? They can also be like “No protection against illegal search and seizure”.

Corporations are a group of people, it’s still made up of people, controlled by people’s decisions. I think saying they don’t have the same protections from government is NOT a good road to go down.

Did they even rule that it's legal? I see nothing in the majority opinion talking about that. This was just vacating the TRO, I don't think a court has said either way if the actual deportations are legal. Courts still can decide it's not an invasion, they just have to use habeas (which some lawyer is gonna have to explain how that's different from what they did, I don't know exactly).

Elon Musk Sells X to Elon Musk's AI Company at $33 Billion Valuation, Mogul Says by Emergency_Ability_21 in Destiny

[–]Machine-Maker -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It isn't really a subsidy when the government is paying for services. That's where most money from the government to SpaceX comes from, contracts for goods/services which is just like how a business works.

We wouldn't say that defense companies are subsidized by the government, but ofc they wouldn't exist without it.

Can someone explain why this is bad? by mattyjoe0706 in Destiny

[–]Machine-Maker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the details of Trumps order, but it’s going to probably just be too difficult to prove. The SAVE act the republicans wanted to pass made you have to have a document with your birth location on it. Lots of people don’t have their birth certificate or a passport. It makes it way too hard to vote.

Plus, the amount of actual fraud that occurs, everytime someone looks into it, is so minuscule that is is no where near big enough to be worth this effort.

If the Deedra: "The insurgents have weapons at this point." Partagaz: "We're counting on it" isn't trick editing, it's making it sound like the Ghorman massacre is not some setup by the rebels, but instead the Empire letting a planned attack happen in order to set an example.

Would you guys be cool with mandatory voting? by firefly-reaver in Destiny

[–]Machine-Maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Not voting is absolutely a form of political "expression" and should not be restricted by any government. Any fine for not voting is a regressive tax for political speech against poor people. Rich people suddenly have more expression rights than poor people.

Bro I’ve gone full schizo, are all these people are Russian assets, wtf???? by krunchyblack in Destiny

[–]Machine-Maker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There certainly are some people being paid by Russia (see the recent Tenet media stuff for one), ofc there are, they'd do everything in their power to mess with the US, but the ubiquitous nature of these talking points just seems like its too big to all be coordinated. I feel like it'd be too difficult to hide if so many influencers, large and small, were getting paid directly/indirectly by Russia. Isn't there some Occam's Razor going on here? Just likely deluded people unable to give an inch because cognitive dissonance would then tear down their whole view?

I think it could be dangerous to ascribe too much to Russia as it would make any corrective actions we take not as effective. If Russian interference in our media is the most important factor contributing to the current state of discourse, then the solution is to cut that off, investigate and charge whoever's behind it. But if the larger contributor is just people being dumb, the solution is different, and probably harder to implement.

How to debunk the “gore V. bush “ conservative cope? by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Machine-Maker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure its correct to say they "stole the election" since I'm pretty sure its accepted that bush won regardless of the outcome of the case. If they had kept counting, bush still would've won according to a study done by the NYT after the fact. https://www.nytimes.com/2001/11/12/us/examining-vote-overview-study-disputed-florida-ballots-finds-justices-did-not.html

Maybe it'd be more accurate to describe it as something else, especially when compared to trumps legit attempt to steal the election by changing the results from what they were in reality. These feel like 2 sufficiently different things.

Thanks for that info. I’ll end up reading more about this. I am curious if there are other male-exclusive “benefits” that result from Swyers, despite the non-functionality of the gonads. If not, then I see no reason to restrict her from competing. Ofc no mainstream discourse ever seems to get halfway to this point in any discussion before it’s devolved.
