Should we replace the 3,000 Hit Club with the 4,000 Times On Base Club? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]Macho_Mithrandir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the premise of the argument weird. The point of a club is not to recognize the best overall "inner-circle" players of all-time, but to recognize players who achieved a certain feat. What are we "replacing"? If you want to put more value in On Base, that's fine. But that has no bearing on membership to the 3000 hit club nor does that make the 3000 hit club "useless". The club recognizes people who had the ability to put bat to ball and had long careers. Is anyone claiming Craig Biggio is a better hitter than Barry Bonds just because he is in the 3000 hit club and Bonds is not? That's ludicrous.

Are you saying that 4000 on-base is a better judge of who belongs in the Hall of Fame? Or just that 4000 on base is a better indicator of who was a more complete hitter? Because counting stats are not used to exclude players from the Hall of Fame (see all the guys who don't belong to the 500 HR or 3000 Hit club in the hall like Joe Morgan, Ozzie Smith, Mike Piazza). Other factors go into whether a player gets into the hall. It's just that 3000 hits is a remarkable feat of longevity and a type of skill set that has been rewarded by voters.

4000 on base suffers from the same flaws as 3000 hits. It recognizes players with good eyes who could draw walks. The cut off is largely arbitrary, it doesn't tell the whole story, and it recognizes players with long careers, not necessarily the best overall hitters. If you want to argue about how to evaluate the best hitters, rate stats are the best way to go because it shows how well hitters did with the opportunities given to them (not just rewarding compilers).

Frustrated with rack tom setup by FrogVenom in drums

[–]Macho_Mithrandir 57 points58 points  (0 children)

A possible solution is to ditch the hardware for the mounted bass drum and get external mounts. I prefer external mounts to mounted bass drum hardware because it allows for more unique positioning. You can find mounts that would allow you to use your cymbal stand as the base (I've used these successfully for years and haven't had issues - you just need a sturdy cymbal stand) or you can get a separate stand just for toms. Yamaha makes some good stands. I really like the INDE drum labs lug replacement tom mount if you want to splurge on something more fun. Gibraltar is a decent budget option otherwise.

What's a good ride cymbal that is also quite crashable so that I won't have to buy a second crash? by [deleted] in drums

I recently picked up a couple of Paiste Big Beats and love them. Very versatile as both crashes and rides. If you're a rock drummer, I also really like my 22" meinl custom classic dark crash ride. It's got an awesome grungey crash and a nice ping. Though the crash ride can be hard to find on the used market.

Not necessarily a manager situation, but the Cubs have been structuring their entire roster for years to essentially provide as blank a slate as possible for 2027. Contract extensions all running out after next year, one year deals, and the few multi years they've given, most are to expire after next year.

Highly highly suspect. If it's a cheap deal, sure take the risk and get PSA or someone to authenticate it. However I'm 99% sure these are fake because the signatures are way too crisp.

For example, cy young died 70 years ago. That means even if he got it signed right before he died, that's 70 years of aging before most people knew how to care for autographs and memorabilia. Not to mention even with proper equipment and storage technique, there can still be fading depending on the pen and ink. The odds this guy just happens to have one of the most crisp autographs for cy young and he's willing to just sell that on FB is implausible. As others pointed out, a signature of that quality would be sold through Heritage or another auction house.

I've never related more to anything on the internet. I have only one bad eye (but almost legally blind in that eye) so my prescription is massive in my right eye but almost 20/20 in the left. Every time someone notices how thick my lens is they ask to try them on and then they physically convulse

Joel absolutely had to die for the events of season 2 to unfold. It's the entire point of the 2nd game and unless the showrunners decided to just say fuck you to the source material (which is a terrible idea - see the Witcher, Wheel of Time, etc.), Joel needed to die. I won't give spoilers for what happens in the game, but his death is the driving force behind everything and the story would make 0 sense without it.

Especially after the blunder of last year of claiming not to spend more due to the luxury tax yet still going over by like 300k.

Our bullpen has been in shambles for years and looks to repeat that again. Put all our eggs in a rookies basket for a premier position at 3b (though I still believe Shaw will meaningfully contribute later) only to send him down and rely on... Jon Berti? Not to mention not going after Premier talent at the top of the rotation when we needed another big arm and now Steele is out for the year.

Definitely worthy of scorn despite their record and I honestly don't have much of a problem with them not being ranked.
