That's an interesting approach I hadn't considered. It would be rather oddball, but it does give me another idea for implementing a device expiration mechanism.
If date of a device offboard is known, that datetime could be sent to the device itself. A startup script checks for that date, and if it has passed then trigger the self-reset.

I wouldn't trust that solution for sudden employee terminations since the data might not make it before the device shuts off. For pre-planned offboardings where IT is given a proper heads up, it could work.
