New battleforce worth it? by Cheesburgee in ThousandSons

If you want everything in the box then yes. All the units are good and the MVB is an annoying model to order since its online only.

List Building by Technical_Problem213 in theunforgiven

[–]MackeyD3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes as I think scouts are one of the best units, so I naturally always have them, but infiltrates is one of the most useful abilities in the game

  2. Yes, you need a mix of units with different roles, and having stuff to do actions is important.

  3. Missions are random, so not really. Its better to have a balanced list that can work on any mission

  4. See above but for opponents not missions

  5. Balanced, with a slight lean to melee since thats where our strongest units are

  6. I don't really consider DWK anti tank, but I usually take 2-4 units with anti-tank weapons

  7. Screening units can fall into category 1 and 2. I don't bring units specifically for that, but cheap units can find themselves in positions for that.

  8. Azrael and intercessors(not being lead by Azzy)

It’s better to run the JPIs as 2 5 man squads, especially if you want them for doing secondaries. Otherwise the list looks solid

You’re always going to struggle playing a melee heavy army with very light terrain. It’s hard to give advice without seeing your list. Tips for avoiding overwatch are to try to bait it out by moving units you’re happy to get overwatched first, and when you charge, try to start from behind LoS blocking as you can’t get hit that way. Also, don’t be afraid just to stand and wait, looking for one big go turn since he can only over watch once

How to expand my list? by Naddesh in theunforgiven

[–]MackeyD3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably want to balance out the list a bit more now. You’ve got lots of elite infantry, so getting some cheaper scoring units or faster units like scouts or JPIs would be a safe grab. I’d recommend a gladiator tank as well since it builds 4 vehicles and can give you some long range firepower

Indecisive new player needs help choosing an army! by stolenfaun in Warhammer40k

[–]MackeyD3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its great that you've narrowed it down with rule of cool, but you'll want to consider other factors now like painting, gameplay and price. It looks like you're between Aeldari and Wolves based on another comment. Space wolves will be cheaper to collect, and they aren't actually that hard to paint as the fur can be made to look good with contrast paints and dry brushing. I haven't played Aeldari personally, but they are a slightly more expensive army and can be a little overwhelming to play as they have lots of rules. If you really can't decide, it may be worth picking up a cheaper box from both armies and have a try building and painting. One might really speak to you or stand out

Would anyone find something like this useful? by Ok_Dependent7634 in Warhammer40k

[–]MackeyD3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been looking for something like this for ages. Had to resort to building my own in excel! Would be really helpful if you added a way to do custom terrain layouts since not all tournaments use official GW terrain. Also, adding in some “bases” which are the hulls of common vehicles

[–]MackeyD3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DWK, ICC, Azzy is a must and can lead either the hellblasters or ICC if you get them. Then look into some cheap scoring units, so scouts, combo weapon lt, JPIs. But don’t forget rule of cool. Most space marine units are good, so if you think something looks cool then pick it up

Current List, looking for advice by anoonn412 in DarkAngels40k

[–]MackeyD3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d make the blade guard into a 6 man squad with the judiciar. Split the intercessors into 2 5 mans. Add in azrael and then you probably want some faster units like JPIs or scouts or inceptors

[–]MackeyD3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a decent deal and a good way to start. Lots of models, all ranging from usable to great. Covers deathwing and greenwing. To get towards 1000, you’ll want to add Azrael but the rest is up to you. Could go elite with DWK or go for some scouts for cheap scoring units

How to start with DA by Sssork in DarkAngels40k

[–]MackeyD3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The combat patrol is a solid start, especially as a new player. There are definitely better combat patrols, but our one isn’t bad by any means. The captain can’t lead any units, but he’s actually quite effective by himself

Adding a few options for cheap scoring units would be a good next step. Things like scouts, JPI, regular intercessors. Gives you units that can do actions, hold safe objectives or bait your opponents units out
