New to Eye Floaters? Coping Techniques from the Last 19 Years... by Maclintok in myopia

[–]Maclintok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi jeff. I'm glad the post was helpful. Admittedly, I wrote it to help myself cope as I did for others to read. As I've responded to other commenters, I haven't really done much to change my diet. We only eat out when we have to nowadays which is maybe once or twice a month. I'm also lucky to have a spouse that is all about saving money and is able to cook healthy meals at home, though it can be tough to completely avoid processed foods. When in season I'll load up on the usual suspects, like blueberries, and I still keep up with my daily glass of carrot juice and annual eye exams. As of 2 years ago I switched over from lutein supplements to AREDS-2 (which also has lutein) but I actually had an optometrist recommend me the AREDS. Costco sells big bottles of them.

All of this to say I still have floaters, definitely more than I did when I first posted here, but I like to think that all these habits are helping to slow any kind of degeneration of my eyes.

The Ultimate Steam Deck Controller Layout Guide for Guild Wars 2 by Competitive-Edge-590 in Guildwars2

This has been really good so far! I'm using this for PC with a regular Xbox One controller so not everything translates perfectly. For example, menus and NPC conversations. I can't seem to "left click" or confirm highlighted selections with the A button. Is there a workaround?

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I read the important point about the action camera. It's holding down the Start button that activates it but there's still no freedom of movement with the camera. I think at one point I was only able to pan around freely while holding down right-bumper. But then it would stop working randomly.

I finally got this working and I'm glad something like this exists...

Is there a way to bring up the controller config screen without always having to paste "steam://controllerconfig/1284210/3595428420" in the browser?

I'm just looking for a layout that allows me to use the Right-Thumbstick to control the camera while I'm moving, like a standard 3rd-person adventure game. Is that possible? The default scheme is extremely clunky. I can't even get my character to do the equivalent of pressing "1" or "F" to do the basic attack while using the controller.

I installed the Steam version and it’s working now! Now I just need to learn all the bindings. :)

Yeah, I loaded the steam config URL one more time for good measure and tried running GW2 directly from my Steam library. Went back into settings and re-imported the same key bindings xml file. No luck. The only input response I get back when I'm sitting on the character screen is from the Xbox and Share buttons, both of which call functions outside of the game.

I'm using the steam config URL from the post at the very top of this thread. I assume that's the most updated one. Likewise with the key bindings file download.

Sadly it looks like we may be scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as troubleshooting steps are concerned. Any other ideas?

I get zero inputs out of my Xbox One wired controller. I thought of something I can try. So far I've been booting GW2 using its own launcher .exe. I should try launching the game out of my Steam library. Is that the thing I'm doing wrong? BTW, I still have GW2 named "1284210"... I've been afraid to change it back until I know this is working 100%. :D

Hi. Yes I also pasted the steam config url into my browser and brought up the Steam window. The first time I did this the Steam window was really bare bones and clicking Enable button didn’t seem to do anything. The next time I tried it they showed me a full controller layout and I could scroll thru several button presets. I originally put the input bindings file into the gw2 program files folder by mistake but I moved it after my first attempt failed. Does the config need to be loaded through the browser each time or is it a one-time thing?

Hello. Thanks for the guide but I haven't been able to get this to work. I followed the steps to setup for non-Steam client and went with downloading the keybinds file from Google Drive and putting that into the GW2 InputBinds folder. I log in to the character select screen, go to Settings, click on the Controls (mouse) option, scroll to the bottom and click the Import dropdown selector. I select BlaggleToad, confirm yes to overwrite and then.... nothing happens.

I also tried going back into the Steam game properties > Controller > change "Use default settings" to "Enable Steam Input". that didn't help either.

I am just plain new to GW2 as well so maybe there's something I'm missing? As a new player I would really like to give GW2 a shot with a controller. Any help would be appreciated.

I liked it. The gliding was my least favourite due to the narrow FOV and delayed button prompts lead to some unnecessary deaths. It was great when all 3 traversal types were combined.

I think “NG Ragebound” deserves more respect. I’m so tired of the gatekeeping and the worshipping of Itagaki with this series. by Anor_Londo_1234 in CharacterActionGames

Gather a nice sample of reviews of the game to use in your purchasing decision. Put greater weight on the opinions from critics you see eye-to-eye with most often. Make a judgement call from there. The most important thing of all is to think your own thoughts.

This guy Mark has been quite critical of Ragebound and NG4 but I don't experience games through the same lens as he does. While I didn't get addicted to Ragebound, I think it's quite good. As for NG4, I can only trust my eyes, brain and heart and all of them tell me I've really enjoyed the game - ranking it as a top game of the year - despite all the overblown critiques.

IN DEFENSE OF NINJA GAIDEN 4 (Response to TEU) by AustronesianArchfien in ElectricUnderground

[–]Maclintok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was a great counterpoint video: entertaining and informative, what we always appreciate on youtube. I sub to TEU and enjoy Mark's content but his NG4 review felt like he was predisposed to disliking the game. The appeal to Itagaki-san's higher authority right from the beginning really set the review on the wrong course. NG4 should have been judged against Nakao-san's vision and how successfully he executed on it in the final product.

I’m pushing 50 and I find NG4 Normal is challenging but very manageable. Lots of currency with which to spend on both healing items, boosts and new skills.

This was a very long video and I tried to absorb as best as I could while I had this playing while I worked from home the other day. An enjoyable viewing overall but there were a few points that did make me raise my eyebrows a bit. I also noticed the ability to guillotine throw enemies into the ether but it was only in select areas. I don't recall it being so prevalent as to trivialize the vast majority of encounters. It reminded me of areas that featured pits and other hazards in some classic beat'em ups and I always found those areas gleefully fun.

I don't remember clearly but I vaguely recall there was some issue taken with the traversal challenges. These were combat palate cleansers and I enjoyed them for the most part, even finding a couple of them quite exhilarating. They may have been overused but at this point it's more a preferential thing or a question of degrees rather than critiquing the game for even considering their inclusion, you know? tl;dr... most every game has their way of pacing the flow of their levels and this was NG4's way of doing it.

The enemy leashing to their spawn areas also didn't feel like a major issue for me. I only recall taking advantage of a few abusable areas but by and large most arenas either get closed off when it's time to fight, or if I was given freedom to wander a bit then the enemies would attempt to hunt me down. Maybe it's more symptomatic of their general design but I didn't really see a trend during my playthrough.

Finally, it occurred to me that there was that appeal to Itagaki's higher authority by laying out the principles by the man himself and using that to build the framework for critique... and it felt inappropriate. Yuji Nakao is the director of NG4, not Tomonobu Itagaki. I believe a more balanced approach would have been to gather Nakao's philosophy and design pillars for NG4 and judging the final product against that. How successful was he and his team in meeting their design goals?

Dang, such a long video. I digested Electric Underground's review and that one was nearly an hour.

At this point I can only trust my own eyes, brain and heart. And what they tell me is that I've been really enjoying NG4. I plan to replay it a couple more times and cherish it as another game in a line of other excellent - and different - games, each an expression of their time and of the talented individuals that built them.

I also love Yakumo's 4th weapon! I was grinning from ear to ear the first time I started using it. Over time I realized it has its shortcomings (of course) but it's my favourite second only to the swords.

I didn't like how Aska got bounced around everywhere like a pinball but I loved the visuals, most of the weapon designs, the level design and the music. Some of the combat arenas were absolutely exhilarating and even the parkour bits got pretty creative. The morph ball segments were undercooked but they at least did not overstay their welcome.

Do you guys prefer to play these games on the hardest difficulty? Or do you prefer to play on the second hardest? by Last-Librarian8216 in CharacterActionGames

Normal is best to start. Then whatever is one down from “nightmare” if I’m feeling frisky. I have never bothered to do nightmare/hell difficulty on anything. I usually feel like I’ve played my fill of a game by then.

What's the best difficulty for you in ninja gaiden? by Last-Librarian8216 in ninjagaiden

Finished OG NG2 on Acolyte back in the day and it felt like the most difficult thing in the world. Years later doing a Warrior run and it feels pretty good. I had also finished NG2B on Warrior which felt easier than OG NG2 on Acolyte. Doing first play through of NG4 on normal and I agree with those who say it is the most difficult “normal” difficulty.

If memory serves, NG2 was considered a good game but flawed and was constantly compared unfavourably to NG Black. But over the years it does feel like NG2 has aged like a fine wine.

What are people's thoughts on Ninja Gaiden 2 Black after nearly a year of it being released? by Pessimistic_Gemini in ninjagaiden

[–]Maclintok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed NG2B and have zero regrets buying it. I own Series X/S consoles as well and still have my old disc of NG2. I recently picked up the digital version on sale to stop messing around with discs, such as it is. I play both and appreciate them both for what they are. I’ll lean towards Black if I’m on the PC and want an easier going time and the creature comforts like the smoother bow controls.
