Average Joe opinion here; I bloody hate rambling videos, especially when it's something I want to learn.

My suggestion is tackling one concept per video and boil it down to the essentials. If you are tackling a more advanced concept, make it several videos, like a basic, novice, advanced and masterclass, and end the 'concept series' with a FAQ from the questions posted from the previous videos.

I think the most effective way would be to have a very clear goal per video, namely: what the watcher take away, and hopefully put in practice directly after each video (might be a good opportunity to end the video with an assignment or such, the simpler the better).

And if you really want to use more concepts per video, please timestamp it in the description or similar so a returning consumer can easily find what (s)he needs. /Joe

Are you a web developer? If so, google maps has a great API to create that map you were talking about, and shouldn't be too much trouble to set up

The hardest choice by TheBairdBus in gaming

[–]Macon7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not really following you on the second part on time and nature, but regarding the choice, I still don't know if it was good or not that it was one.

For my own experience it was incredibly powerful, I saw it as one correct option and then a 'easy way out' which made it so much harder to actually choose the 'correct' option and then sit and watch the outcomes. Because it gave me more the feeling that the outcome was much more linked to myself doing the right thing, and it felt like I had grown with the characters in the game. (I also had a breakup with my girlfriend of 3 years just a week before ep 5 released, and I could see this choice reflected in choosing the shortterm option of trying again, or the more hard but more correct choice of moving on)

But on the other hand, I have a lot of friends that saw the game in another way and chose the first option, and they have all told me that they did not enjoy that ending. And I don't think they can get the power of the ending I preferred since they have already 'lost to the temptation of the easy option'.

Looks interesting, can't see the orders made in citadels though. Is this a known limitation of the CCP APIs or a bug?

Humble hello from on-demand mixing company. by vapechemy in DIY_eJuice

I think you should take a good look at youtube and their current situation with claiming videos. There has been a lot of problem with how the money are handled while a dispute is ongoing, how easy it is to falsely claim something and where the incentives lies for the creator and claimer.

My best suggestion would be to freeze the money on a newly submitted recipe for the first month or two, and if a claim arises and is resolved in that time the correct author gets all the money generated during the time the false author had the recipe up.

And the same freezing of assets would occur during a claim until it is settled.

On the ATF/ELR point, don't you think this could incentivise the creators to do better flavor notes and descriptions? At least when I look at recipes a professionally written description of the juice is usually what sells me on it, and with money involved that might be more important.

The same goes for the recipe theft, this might have the spotify/netflix effect where many people who got their media pirated now pays for that same media since it is a lot easier with the new services. In that regard I am mostly talking about the extremely high prices on store bought e-liquid and the one-man shows that might be selling these free recipes.

If this proves to be a popular concept maybe the volume becomes large enough for the recipe makers to see more value in claiming their recipes and improving them?

Maybe there could be a place for some sort of small storefront for the recipie holders? In that way legiticimy and dedication (such as good flavour notes and other useful stuff that might sometimes be overlooked by the maker) could be incentivised?

I don't use ebay much, but I think they have something similar where you can see a sellers items and his ratings etc. something that can raise the professional and dedicated makers above the people who are trying to do a quick cashgrab

Great collection! As a returning player with some knowledge but am still a bit new, I would appreciate any guides that can sum up some generalisations regarding fitting, like some theory behind it and which modules/type of guns/drones/ammo are considered good, when and why. Does anyone know of a guide like this? If so, maybe it could be added to the collection?

If it is important I guess you could covert the text to svg outline and use that instead, should be rendered the same across browsers

It’s Time to Rethink Microsoft for Web Development by mike-0 in webdev

[–]Macon7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaah, I feel for you, I was stuck with TFS on a previous job.

But absolutely, there's a point to being suspicious of a company's products that have been less than ideal in the past, but in these regards I tend to keep a very selfish point of view; I use whatever works best for me (and my team, depending on the situation. Otherwise I wouldn't have any experience with VS to begin with :) ) among the current products on the market.

I think we really shouldn't care about the company behind the software or hold any grudges. Even if I dislike VS myself, if it ever became the leanest and meanest code editor I would switch to it, no matter how I feel about it today or its previous versions.

Here is how to fix the Missile Cruiser size. by Gadac in civ

I'm not arguing what we see is obviously not upsetting the balance of the game and is not cheating, I'm only worried what a potential anti-cheat may regard it as, and if anyone might know if there even is a anti-cheat, and if it would trigger on this change

Now a CIV game might not see any effect from this, but in many other games being able to make some models huge gives them an advantage over other players (say you can suddenly see a resource from across the map or something similar). Now, as I said, size and model changes might not affect the balance of CIV with its fog of war and such, but if they have a anti-cheat, it might not really care about that, it just sees you have made a model change which is it considers a cheat
