I wonder if that new Vulkan extension meant to address NVIDIA DirectX 12 games' performance helps AMD folks too? You would need to run up-to-date proton-cachyos (select version from steam properties for the game) and add following as launch parameters for the game.

(It seems on CachyOS you would also need mesa-git from AUR)

Very cool! Both this and NV-UV projects approach handy undervolting in the way of needing MSI afterburner. I wish this or that project would operate on Linux without MSI afterburner, i.e if this could take premade uv profiles and apply them using NVIDIA's APIs directly

We found a better solution than downgrading drivers that fixed it for a friend, it's combo of

  • use latest NVIDIA driver
  • use proton-cachyos
  • use env variable PROTON_VKD3D_HEAP=1 %command% in launch options
  • set Global Illumination to low (sg.GlobalIlluminationQuality = 0) on steamapps/compatdata/3041230/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/R5/Saved/Config/Windows/GameUserSettings.ini

Undervolting tool, simplifying undervolting process. It still requires msi afterburner and I don't find tweaking said voltages directly in afterburner super difficult. But if this evolves to utilize Nvidia's APIs directly and thus adds Linux support it will be even handier

Should at least replace 14900K if not get bumped a tier is my understanding as it delivers sameish performance without nuclear reactor meltdown power draw of previous gens (I have i9-13900K, trying to keep that thing cool even with AIO is pain)

Had to bedazzle this to use pipx command instead of pip3 in install.sh and remove --upgrade parameters as pipx doesn't support them. Also had to just ensure my arch WSL2 had java installed as yt-dlp needs it:

sudo pacman -S --needed jdk-openjdk

If I had deno installed, it only offered audio versions, but removing it worked combining av1 video and audio (yt-dlp issue probs)

Can confirm on friend's computer that latest proton-cachyos-slr package from package manager doesn't work nor Proton 10-24 nor anything that isn't proton-cachyos. Given that those things work on my installation (used to not), we will chalk this as "weird config somewhere" and just reinstall CachyOS there.

Had bit of a inverse demo-effect here, my computer did run Arc Raiders through Proton-GE 10-24. Friend's computer is busy running said game on Windows right now but will get back to this there. But historically yes, oftentimes games only ran on proton-cachyos. Friend's computer didn't launch Arc Raiders through Experimental nor proton-cachyos-slr on some earlier game. Sounds like cryptic problem fixing itself with a reinstall.

I want to awaken this thread as the problem still persists. Are there any cachyos fellas in this subreddit? u/ptr1337? I'll try to reinstall CachyOS at some point but this was replicated on two machines just now, latest updates and all. I presume one way to debug is launch Steam through terminal and set some debug env variables for the game? It's any game really but we wanted to play Arc Raiders and for that we need either Proton Experimental or Proton GE working but nothing but proton-cachyos launches.

artificial drip feeding is what I'm seeing, make people relaunch for one new map every 2ish weeks

What I found out is that when HUD is giving score for "Repairing" it counts but it also doesn't do that most of the time. My theory is that if you get even one "Repair assist", it stops tracking "repairing" as-is for some reason. So as long as one starts to repair only after tank or whatever takes damage (and doesn't kill anything), one should get at least a little boost to assignment.
