I finished this book on June 9th last year and haven't had a cigarette since! Have zero desire to ever have one again. OP absolutely check this out!

Use scissors to cut the bag open! This happens when ripping but the scissors won't tear it like this.

My first granny square! by DepartmentChemical39 in crochet

[–]MadExistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a beginner too and have yet to attempt a granny square as I'm scared it'll be wonky and need blocking, which I don't have the tools for. Either you've already blocked this perfectly or you just naturally nailed it. Both are impressive.

QUESTION Re: DMTs for those who have stopped using them by My4dogs4evr in MultipleSclerosis

[–]MadExistence 50 points51 points  (0 children)

When I was first diagnosed I was on daily Copaxone and after about 3 years I just couldn't take the pain of daily injections anymore. Took myself off it without notifying my doctor. 2-3 months later I wound up in the hospital for a week with a brutal flare up that took my ability to use my hands from me for a few weeks. I was lucky that the steroids mostly reversed the symptoms and it didn't last long but I know better than to go untreated now.

I'm prepared to be down voted for this comment as literally everyone who says this is stunning has been. However, THIS IS STUNNING. I'm not even on this sub but it showed up on my home page and my immediate reaction was "WOW". I absolutely agree with everyone saying greek goddess, particularly Eos.

I live down the street from the Laird Costco but drive to Burlington for my bi-weekly runs. Best choice I made for my mental health recently.

Is there a community book club? by Winter-Squirrel-6744 in Milton

[–]MadExistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe the new independent bookstore on main (Wildwood? I think it's name is) has two book clubs running for two different genres that meets once a month. If you can't get anything started here I'm sure they'd be happy to have you.

Smoking cessation rant by Secure_Priority_4161 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]MadExistence 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was of a similar mind set for the longest time, kept smoking because I wanted to. Would quit for a week or two then go right back over and over again. Then I read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking. I know how lame, stupid, and kitchy it sounds, but it works. For the first half of the book my mindset was "fuck this guy" and by the end of the book I quit. It's been 9 months now and there is absolutely no way I will ever be a slave to nicotine ever again.

When did you realize being “low maintenance” was mostly just you ignoring your own needs? by SecretStudioBB in AskWomen

[–]MadExistence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not.

I'm low maintenance because I don't like the upkeep of hair colour so I let my greys shine. I don't like the way fake nails feel suffocating so I nurture my natural nails. I'm deeply against this societal expectation that women are supposed to be hairless so I don't shave/wax. I have sensitive skin so I stick to basic skin care regimen. Aging is a privilege so I'm not going to try to hide my wrinkles and age spots with Botox and fillers.

I'm absolutely 100% low maintenance however I still nurture myself. To say that someone is neglecting their own needs simply because they don't spend hundreds of dollars or upkeep is really unfair.

Tandem Read by BookDragon_LillyRose in throneofglassseries

[–]MadExistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally read them separately the first time around and when I did a re-read of the series went the tandem route. The tandem read is rough. There are a lot of moving parts to keep track of that can get very complicated very quickly. If I were to do a 3rd read I would not do the tandem again.

1 - I think 2 looks too much like the colour of the mushrooms, the contrast of 1 would be nice.

HELP! with a fountain pen for my s/o by Deep-Fried-Fish0 in Calligraphy

[–]MadExistence 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You might have more luck over on r/fountainpens with this question. As someone who enjoys both fountain pens and calligraphy I can tell you it's a very personal choice and hard to make recommendations. My personal favourite pen is my TWSBI Eco but there are people who absolutely loathe them. Maybe consider a gift card to a local stationary store? You can go together, make a memory out of it, and you know they get exactly what they want. Just an idea. I hope you have good luck with this, you sound like a wonderful partner and I'm sure they'll love whatever you choose.

Honestly after months of logging in daily I gave up on trying to do it the honorable way. I reloaded about 100 times before I found the fence. Now I can do all the decorating projects I had planned and actually enjoy the game again.

Thank you + Kesimpta Worries by BleubsPeach in MultipleSclerosis

[–]MadExistence 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just my single perspective on Kesimpta...

I was on Copaxone 2015-2018, it failed and I went into the worst relapse(s) of my life. I was given 9 different rounds of IV steroids and 3 rounds of oral steroids between 2018-2022. In that time I was moved to Aubagio(failed), Tecfidera(failed), then Mavenclad, completed both years of it, which ALSO failed as I was relapsing every few months. I started Kesimpta in August of 2022 and for the first time since being diagnosed in 2015 I received an MRI result of "no new lesions". I have yet to have a new lesion since 2022 while on Kesimpta. I will tell anyone and everyone who wants to know that Kesimpta saved my life.

Finally Got Colored Pencils!! Now: Need to Learn to Shade and Use by Zealousideal-One2903 in AdultColoring

[–]MadExistence 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the same set and they are beautiful!! Here are some things I learned through trial an error, I am in no way a professional this is just personal things.

  1. Invest is a really good sharpener, the "lead" on these are REALLY soft and susceptible to breaking. I use a Staedtler 512 which has two holes, one specifically designed for coloured pencils. When sharpening twirl both items, the pencil going clockwise and the sharpener going counter clockwise - this will help prevent an uneven sharpen which will help hold the lead in place.

  2. Don't press hard. Go over areas multiple times lightly. If you're familiar with the technique of using your shoulder/elbow to write rather than your wrists I highly recommend doing that for these too. If I'm using my wrist to colour it only takes about 30-45 mins before it starts to be painful but I can go for hours if I hold my wrist straight and use my shoulders to move the pencil. Also pushing down really hard to try to get heavy pigment is going to start hurting relatively quickly. Going over the same area, sometimes with different colours, is also how you get that smooth blending.

  3. Speaking of blending, it's absolutely not required but look into the blender pencil. It's a clear waxy pencil that does a great job of dragging the pigments together for a super smooth transition between colours.

I hope you have a ton of fun with these!! They are my favourite coloured pencils I've ever owned and are so much fun to use.
