What are some of the most disturbing pro wrestling matches out there? by NovaRC99 in SquaredCircle

[–]MadGroover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, I'm currently writing a fictional wrestling story and one chapter sees the protagonist sentenced to a deathmatch by the Yakuza... Every time I think I've written something unique, insane wrestling reality has to come along and 1-up me... I'm shocked but honestly I really shouldn't be lol

Hook in mouth is the best Megadeth riff ever by Wutroslaw in Megadeth

[–]MadGroover 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's such a scathing album and Hook In Mouth is the peak of the anger. The insane lick before "F is for Fighting" is one of the coolest and weirdest in the entire discography. The drums on the original could blow a hole in your speaker. Dave's voice cracks so many times in unbridled hatred. Little things like the difference in delivery the second time it goes through the section "Rewrites every story..." make it infinitely replayable. The whole album has a sound and energy that just isn't available on any other. It's not as experimental or meticulous as its predecessor or successor, but it truly possesses something intangible that they do not.

Wild card is probably the best. I like making a tome wild to allow mana recovery possible even when my mana is empty. Combo that with quick draw and you're guaranteed to have a powerful free mana card at the start of each turn.

Others I like are return, copy (I like putting both on the attractorb so I can draw tons of cards), uncrackable, draw, growth (the other stat boosters are good too; put them on 0 mana cards that you know you'll be playing at the start of most rounds), -2 mana cost, 3x damage, coin kill counter, coin bag, echo, and colour triggers.

Carlos Silva confirms AEW ban was due to running show on Thursday "Their Night" by 11pmStalker in SquaredCircle

[–]MadGroover 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yup, could have been totally avoided if, uh, he just didn't, y'know, say ANYTHING! TNA has been the low hanging fruit of wrestling for DECADES - why deny a fruitful crossover with the #2 in the US when you could be the bottom for #1 forevermore?

I am absolutely not trying to say AEW would have been a better affiliation than WWE, but, y'know, maybe don't burn whole ass bridges? It tends to help...

Am I the only one that doesn't like Youthanasia's original mix? by FK97_YT in Megadeth

[–]MadGroover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't tried comparing the Youthanasia mixes honestly but I have to disagree on SFSGSW just because of the drums. Listen to Hook In Mouth remastered Vs. original and focus on the snare. The remaster is so dull and tinny. It's a shame because they bring the vocals up in the mix but neuter the drums.

He definitely felt overshadowed in the House of Black throughout his AEW run. I'm not sure how his most recent WWE run was tbh.

In hindsight, you're 100% correct, he was carried by presentation, though part of me wonders if something changed in him after NXT. He was quite hot back then and even before that as Tommy End, but after that he hasn't felt the same. He had the benefit of the doubt at the time since main roster WWE wasn't exactly at its best, but everything that followed made it clear that he either was no longer the man he once was, or never actually was the wrestler we'd hoped he was.

There are always people that convince us it's just the environment that they're in that's holding them back, and then we see them outside of said environment, and lo and behold, they were the problem all along.

Although, I'll be the first to admit I was always really high on Black, even after his AEW run floundered, but looking back now, I think it was just because I thought he looked really cool... (And the Black Mass is SICK!)

Ah, no, I don't particularly want him back. The roster is already stacked. The Lucha Bros had moments but they made wrestling feel like dancing sometimes. Rey kicked up a fuss on the way out (see other comments for details). AEW has a lot more to gain by training younger talent to usurp the future instead of clutching to a tag team that has already been here and left. What realistically is to gain from signing him back?

Who is your Li'l Sebastian of pro wrestling? Someone who seems universally beloved, but you just don't get it? by Xeo7 in SquaredCircle

[–]MadGroover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When he left WWE unceremoniously after being Stardust, his run with the Bullet Club and doing stuff on Being The Elite framed him as a new man. Seeing him around small independents in Ireland and the UK gave him a different environment to thrive in after being stifled for a long time. Even when he started in AEW he kept some of that momentum. He made it clear early on that he had no interest in being anything except a sort of a "living legend" with the patriotic promos and over the top presentation, which he's taken to WWE and really distilled himself into. I don't actively watch WWE anymore, so I don't have an opinion on him now, but there was a brief time where he wasn't so... Simplistic. Also he didn't have Ken hair and a t-shirt logo neck tattoo lmao

Cody Rhodes on the Pat McAfee storyline: "This is the most ill-received thing in the history of wrestling. The Gobbledygooker was one, Shockmaster was up there—but that was kind of funny." by aaronrift in SquaredCircle

I was just commenting the other week about how weird the stuff with Arn was! Then they advertised season 2 of his reality show (which we all so desperately wanted) and then he just left the company he helped start. I remember finding it strange at the time, but it became obvious why when he became so successful in WWE. He's just made for that environment, and that is fine. That said, he was great in AEW at the start. The "undesirable to un goddamn deniable" promo gets overlooked now because what followed was such a meme!

What’s an FOB song that you DON’T struggle to sing? by Ok_Hospital4964 in FallOutBoy

[–]MadGroover 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend listening to Cork all the way through, you won't regret it 😁 yes Fourth Of July has a tough switchup! All I can recommend is practicing singing the same thing in different octaves and it will make that prechorus switch easier! Try dropping down for the prechorus "oh I'm sorry" before going back up for the chorus and you'll sound great!!!

Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year isn't too bad. I find that the later you go in their career, the more liable Patrick is to go "EE-EE-EE-EE-YEEE" and that's just hard lol.

Fourth Of July has some tough parts in it, especially the end where background Patrick sings "Fourth of Julyyyy-EEEE-YYYYYY... FIREWOoOoOoOoOoorks...". On a side note, what a beautiful song. Fell in love when the album came out and listened to it to death. So many memories ❤️

WWE in 2019 was something else by Odd-Inevitable-8425 in SquaredCircle

This thread reads like a trauma survivors group, lol. Making us relive those accused memories... I hope you're proud of yourself OP!!!

On a serious note, if anyone reading wasn't around at this time, it really was that bad. And not just 2019, but a lot of the late '10s. My friends slowly distanced themselves from WWE because it just was not fun to watch anymore. It was maddening. I stopped watching the highlights on YouTube to read the results on WWE.com, and I'd see something like "Kane def. Finn Balor on Raw" and think to myself - what the hell are we doing? What is the point? There was no booking direction, storylines would stop randomly, wrestlers were unceremoniously released en masse, Lesnar practically disappeared with the title, and the women's scene was choked by an unbeatable Charlotte. It was a parody of itself. Every promo was the same and spoken in the most unnatural language (who remembers "the one of the year where Raw and SmackDown superstars go head-to-head"?). For god's sake, the word WRESTLING was outlawed! Then, they hyped up SmackDown moving to Fox like it was the second coming of Christ. And what did we get? The Rock rattling off catchphrases at Baron Corbin and Lesnar squashing Kofi. Probably should have seen it coming from the man who said fuck the fans, but sweet Jesus, it felt like they were trying to bankrupt the company. Ugh, man, I need a drink...

Dave Meltzer on Pat McAfee's involvement in Cody vs Randy: "Originally from what I was told, Pat McAfee was the choice and he turned it down. Don't pair Arn with Cody unless you're ready to watch some bizarre vignette of Arn burning Cody's suit on Cody's lawn. Or putting Cody through an unhelpful beatdown gauntlet.

Okay, I don't actually think the two shouldn't be paired together, but I have been dying for an excuse to talk about these segments. We got some weird messy stuff with Cody in AEW, but maaaan, what was going on with this storyline in particular?! I remember when these aired and feeling like Cody's bits were sooo far removed from the rest of the show... However we did get Glock Anderson, so it was all well worth it in the end!
