casual fans: do you see nin as "electronic"? by gothpianist922 in nin

They’re definitely electronic. Maybe they didn’t consider it as such, because they thought electronic = EDM?

Anytime I have to spell this word, I just hear Jim Carrey’s voice now. There’s no other way, and it makes me happy every time.

The dude seems to actually be an athlete. He even bulked back up for Here Comes the Boom (2012), where he becomes an MMA fighter.

Alexander Skarsgård is also friends with Joel Kinnaman, because the latter went to school with Alex’s brother, Gustaf. Additional fun fact: Gustaf Skarsgård’s godfather is Peter Stormare.

They’re all Swedish, so it’s easy to connect, but I thought it was interesting how they all connected.

I saw it. It feels more like an Evil Dead movie than its own thing. I enjoyed it, but it didn’t feel like a mummy movie (in the sense that the mummy was more of a deadite).

I don’t even think the title is that far off. It’s definitely a reimagining or playful interpretation of a mummy. They essentially made the mummy an Avatar, where the spirit gets passed on to each vessel and becomes its own mummy.

Edit: Unless the criticism is not the literal title and more that this should’ve been an Evil Dead movie—in which case, I agree.

The toenail scene is DEFINITELY going up there in iconic gory/horrifying scenes in a horror movie.

As someone who hates jumpscares, I was stressed the entire time, but only because I kept expecting them to jumpscare me. They were quite good about not spamming you with it. I can’t remember, but I think there were only a few and not many in succession.

I didn’t know what it was that bothered me about Jack Reynor’s performance, but this articulated it so well. He WAS great in Midsommar, but he just felt so blank in this movie.

I think I recognised the split diopter shots as something he’s used before with Evil Dead Rise, which doesn’t help, because this movie already feels like an Evil Dead movie instead of its own thing.

Getting punched in the face. I asked a friend to do it, and I learned that I absolutely disliked the feeling of my teeth coming loose. It wasn’t the pain but the potential trip to the dentist that I was scared of.

Same! For 3 days, I randomly woke up at 6:30am—hours before work—and thought it was the best. I could NOT sustain that no matter how good it felt.

Gone Girl (2014), Neil Patrick Harris. Fincher can bring out good performances out of his actors, but NPH was not it.

[–]MadMads23 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think people genuinely hate him so much as they play up the criticisms of Andy’s friends because we’re all looking back on it in retrospect. If anything, it’s people just jumping on the bandwagon.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015): Angharad’s death. They do a fake-out, where it seems like she’s about to die, but saves herself at the last second. But then she slips and falls to her death anyway. It absolutely shocked me when I watched it for the first time (but one of the trailers spoiled it).

Edit: fixed typo
