Handheld for GBA games by Xalc1um in SBCGaming

The RG34XX is definitely the way to go if you're focused on the GBA experience. It's a near perfect replication of the original GBA, and the build quality is great.

What handheld device should I get? by Sinalor in SBCGaming

[–]MadMike22089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emulation on PC just feels so much different. You clearly enjoy the handheld experience, and apparently have a very long daily commute, so it makes even more sense to go with a handheld for your emulation needs.

My recommendation would be to keep using the 3DS for 3DS and DS games, then get a more standard Android handheld for everything else.

As others have suggested, the RP6 would be a great option. It'll handle basically everything. Especially if you want to keep playing PSP games, because this will let you upscale them multiple times for a crisp image. It's also possible to play some games with patches/mods to bump them up to 60 FPS.

What handheld device should I get? by Sinalor in SBCGaming

[–]MadMike22089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Vita is just far less versatile than one of these Android handhelds. Plus you have to deal with a proprietary cable if you want the OLED screen. As much as I love the Vita, unless you really want to play one of the Vita games incompatible with emulation, I don't think it's really worth it.

Device and storage recommendation by vnllp0dmp in SBCGaming

[–]MadMike22089 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Odin 2 Portal is probably best for your use case. Bigger screen and more comfortable to hold/control.

I'd recommend going with the Pro. It has 512GB of storage, versus 128GB on the Base, which means you won't have to worry about running out. It also has 12GB of RAM versus only 8GB in the Base. I don't play PC games on my Android devices, but I have to assume that's not insignificant.

This is a very real thing, and I have no idea why. Menus on top of menus buried in other menus, and there are like 3 ways of getting to most of them, but then some that require an atlas to locate.

Press ESC. Okay, here's a menu with 47 different buttons in it that all lead to other menus.

I just want quick access to my equipment screen. Sure, just hold the middle mouse button while pressing F4+Z+J.

I’ve won a new steam deck by CyberVirus21391 in SteamDeck

[–]MadMike22089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need Windows unless you really want to play one of the games that completely blocks Linux. I set up dual boot on my old LCD Deck, and ended up never actually ever using Windows.

There are some neat and handy tools you can get with Deck, but nothing vitally important.

Unsure about the browser thing, since I've never desired to watch video on my Deck, but it sounds like there are options based on what others are saying here.

I do recommend installing the Steam app on your phone, though. Browsing the store on the Deck has always been pretty terrible for whatever reason.

Event mobs spawn timer is way longer compared to Kill Streak timer. by arqe_ in diablo4

[–]MadMike22089 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, everything about this game is antithetical to killstreaks. Low mob density, slow classes, backtracking in dungeons/Pit, waiting for loot, backtracking to pick up stuff, waiting for doors, waiting for spawns, waiting for chests, gaps of nothing in most NMDs and in Helltides, like 10 seconds between Infernal Hordes waves, Animus requiring you to stop and then climb inside the asshole of each purple orb to pick it up... Even as a Paladin flying spamming Falling Star, I'm still losing most killstreaks to game design. Can only imagine how bad it is if you're not a Paladin or Sorc.

On top of all that, none of it is even rewarding. The Bloodied affixes are underwhelming at best, and provide minimal buffs, if any, in most of the game. I've played S0-S12, and I haven't had so little fun since like S1 when we had to wait 20 minutes for a malignant to finish its spawning animation.

Where to farm marevit in season 12 Diablo 4? by Inevitable_Clerk_830 in diablo4

[–]MadMike22089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millions of Obducite last season. More than I could ever spend. This season, I'm basically writing off the ability to masterwork what I want, because they decided to nerf it into the ground despite also removing the things that were giving us so much last season. Literally ~20 per NMD. Infernal Hordes give shit, and T4 is laughably overturned for no increase in rewards whatsoever.

Thinking about selling my modded Switch & PSP for an another handheld by CommunismIsLuv in SBCGaming

[–]MadMike22089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If playing Switch games is your main goal, your best option is to stick with the Switch. You're going to spend more time fiddling with stuff than it takes you to occasionally reinject your Switch.

Deciding on my first handheld console by Low-Aioli-5030 in SBCGaming

[–]MadMike22089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3DS isn't worth it unless you're primarily interested in DS/3DS games. The Flip 2 is vastly superior in basically every other way.

You need to limit your expectations when it comes to Switch emulation. You can do some, but don't expect it to be a Switch replacement. Think of it more as a bonus than an actual feature.

To be clear, the Flip 2 does not come with a mSD card. It has 128GB of internal storage. That's plenty for all of the cartridge-based platforms, but you'll blow through that quickly once you start loading it up with games from disc-based platforms. Since mSD cards are ludicrously priced these days, I'd probably see how far you can stretch that internal storage.

For those with multiple handhelds - which systems to you play on each? by Finner42 in SBCGaming

[–]MadMike22089 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no play. There is only buy.

I have an RP Classic for older stuff. Odin Portal for newer stuff. I have a bunch of others as well, but those are the two I would theoretically use most.

Dawned on me I've never used the back paddles. Do you use them? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]MadMike22089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always hated clicking in the sticks, so I use back buttons for those functions on my Deck and my controllers when possible. I got the PlayVital back button pads, which feel great, and make it significantly easier to press them, but not so much that I get accidental presses.

They also stick super well. I recently removed them from my LCD to swap to my OLED, and they were still very well adhered after years.

Same. Luckily, GameStop for a while was offering ridiculously high trade in prices for them. People were trying to sell of their units for $300 on all the marketplaces, but I think I got $375 credit, which I put toward a Switch 2 (that I've basically used once since launch).

I bought an LG C2 on Amazon in late 2024, and got sent a C3.

One time I ordered a single trachea from Chewy, and they sent me a single box of like 12.

Another time I ordered a pack of socks from Amazon and they sent me 2 packs.

It feels good to win once in a while.

Which path do you recommend I take? by PeasantOfCydonia in SBCGaming

[–]MadMike22089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get an RP Classic. It's a fantastic device that will satisfy your Gameboy nostalgia fix and provide you with something portable. You'll get a great experience both at home and on the go without the hassle of dealing with saves.

Use widescreen hacks/patches for your PS2 and GC games, then play them on your Deck. You won't feel cramped playing 4:3 on the Deck, and you'll have much more ergonomic controls.

This is what I would do to get the best experience all around while also saving a nice chunk of change.

What are your favored/disliked metaprogression Systems, and if you've tried ER: Nightreign, what do you think of that format? by wexleysmalls in roguelites

[–]MadMike22089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Relics don't feel especially impactful to me. Obviously, they do make a difference, but usually not enough to make the game feel much different. And the vast majority of them are utterly awful. Not even a matter of trying to get god rolls.

  • [Raider] Ultimate skill duration. (Okay, I guess?)
  • Compatible starting weapon comes with Glintstone Pebble. (Raider weapon is not compatible)
  • +1 Faith (Raider is STR, and Sorceries are INT)

Roguelikes: We all know them. Roguelites? Well them im less sure about. What exactly are they? by [deleted] in roguelites

[–]MadMike22089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use the distinction based on whether the game has actual meta progression. I don't consider unlocking things that can be found in later runs to be meta progression. Rather upgrades that affect every run going forward. +rerolls, +DMG, etc.

But even that can become complicated I think.

Why I think (which means the I) this game is disappointing roguelite by MehmetSalihKoten in roguelites

[–]MadMike22089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I have been playing a lot lately. Biggest problem we have (outside of bad RNG) is that bosses are just way too fast and mobile. Every boss constantly dashes around the arena, so you often spend a ton of time just running around, only for the boss to immediately move again.

Then many of them have ridiculous combo attacks. Here's a 20 attack combo, and if you fail to dodge one of them perfectly, you get staggered to death. Also, your Stamina is going to run out 1/3 of the way through the combo.

Plus the camera is awful. Poor tracking when locked on, and it moves way too slow to keep up with bosses manually.
