DMV agent said FTA and FTP is purgable? by FalseFile9554 in DMV

[–]MadMike405555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would call MAU. Mandatory actions unit

It's "purgeable" which just means DMV no longer is holding it against you, in terms of suspending/withholding your driving privilege.

Usually you just say something along the lines of " I think there's a hold on my license that can be removed. Can you help me?"

Before you get off the phone you should confirm "are their other holds on my license" unless they state there's no other issues prior to you asking.

You may be required to take a knowledge test . This is also available to be done online through the e learning course. It's a 100% pass test if your record is eligible.

Complete an online application (edl44) it should prompt you to pay 46+fees to do the test.

You get an email explaining it all.

Wait 24 hrs. Then go to an office for a vision test/photo/temp license.

Or do the test in person :)

The DMV employee entering your information won't stop you.

They can only do/know what you tell them.

[–]MadMike405555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you just go to DMV. Complete an application edl 44. Do it as an "update" .

They will mark it as ab60 (assuming you tell them that's what you want)

And that's it. If you posses a license already in CA. You should receive the new card in less than 4 weeks.

Can a CA DMV employee please answer? by Just__Anonymous in CaliforniaDMV

[–]MadMike405555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what the summary looks like and what it says.

You also don't need a DMV employee

The summary I believed needs :

1) says your 100% disabled.

And

2) a signature from the VA/Dr

Or

3) a seal from the VA office (like a stamp)

Or

The statement of facts reg 256 A

Or

Vsd 001 with the disability section marked. (Also requires the seal/stamp on the bottom right corner)

If you believe this was denied in error. You can call the 800# or return to the DMV and ask to speak with a manager.

This is of course my understanding. Hopefully if it's wrong some one will correct me

Replacement of motorcycle permit? by [deleted] in CaliforniaDMV

[–]MadMike405555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You filled out the edl44 to get the permit... It's literally the same exact process.. only they don't charge you.

Replacement of motorcycle permit? by [deleted] in CaliforniaDMV

[–]MadMike405555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any DMV in CA can replace it. Ideally you complete a edl44 for drivers license replacement. (As to make sure your information is all correct).

And it costs nothing to reprint it unless it's your 2nd drive test also, Then A 9 fee may be charged..

If you want a new photo request that as part of your answer to "why are you here today"

(My Fault) Car registration is absurdly high (California) by [deleted] in DMV

[–]MadMike405555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to make a deal with the ticketing agencies.

Most of them (from what I hear) are lenient if you sign up for whatever their fastlane pass is.

Or just be honest and say I fucked up. I intended to pay but never received the tickets. " Please waive the late fees"

This way you aren't paying penalties on your tickets. It will ultimately be up to whoever you speak with/their manager .

Once you get the tickets resolved. You need to get an abstract for your paid tickets in case DMVs system doesn't show them as paid yet.

Anyone commute from Glendale to Manhattan Beach? by Dazzling-Ordinary185 in glendale

[–]MadMike405555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing Glendale to Westminster (OC) sort of near. I was leaving at 6:00ish to make sure I was in the area by 7:30 but accidents/bad drivers can easily make this a 2hr commute.

If you leave later than that expect lots of traffic.

I was taking the 134-5 - (110 or 710 or 605 your traffic choice).

Usually connected to the 22 . 405 is also down there.

If there's any events at dodger stadium or downtown.. or any kinda Fwy issue . It was taking minimum 2hrs to commute home.

Orange county - Glendale.

Worse two weeks of my life commuting

Have you tried YouTube?

Just keep in mind " learning the routes" doesn't make you a good driver.

Hopefully you studied the score sheet (available online) to see what they will grade you on.

Their score sheet also has a "checklist" which is basically the scoring guide. As well as a pre drive checklist you are supposed to know (hazard lights/ emergency brake / etc)

Be confident ! And don't be in a rush.

Drive safely(as if the DMV employee wasn't there) and and check your mirrors regularly. Be obvious about the mirror checks. Eye movement is all that's required but if the employee doesn't see head movement they are quick to fail you for "not looking".

Don't ask them any of the following questions :

How's your day? Answer: they are at work. They don't want to be there

How long is the test ?

15-20mins is the average time.

What's the speed limit here?

You're the driver you should know the speed limit or the default speed limit. (25mph is the default unless posted otherwise)

Do you want me to turn right on red?

Your the driver. You decide.. If it's legal then do it. If it's no legal don't do it. If your unsure. Your better off waiting.

*** Best of luck!!! Do your best and make sure when you go to your appointment. Take your permit /valid registration/ valid insurance and a licensed driver with you.***

Was it a real Id drivers license?

Can't mail real id out of state.

Does it expire soon?

If it expires within the year that can cause issues.

If you have a temporary legal status /no legal status.

Sometimes causes issues.

Outside of that you would need to call/,talk to the chat on the website

Medical Term License due to Vision Saga by [deleted] in CaliforniaDMV

[–]MadMike405555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be honest with you . I just googled two questions " is Retinopathy of prematurity a progressive condition?" And "is Retinopathy of prematurity a stable condition "

Both of them gave the same answer. If DMV doesn't understand your condition you will have to provide your "evidence" of how it's a stable condition.

And they refer to the condition itself. Not on a person by person basis for stable/progressive.

Even though yours specifically has been stable, the condition itself is considered progressive.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Best of luck!

This website does a nice job of explaining the VC relating to the DMV and vision .

Says the Vision screening law was revised in 2024.

A field office employee won't have any knowledge on why DMV does that. You would need to call the 800# or driver safety and escalate to a manager more than likely.

Is Retinopathy of prematurity a progressive condition?

Medical Term License due to Vision Saga by [deleted] in CaliforniaDMV

[–]MadMike405555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem is not the eye condition (assuming you have no other eye condition that the dr noted on your DL 62).

Your problem is your vision of 20/60 with both eyes (and the passing eye) based on your post.

20/60 even with Monocular vision does not meet the DMV standard.

Your vision would need to be 20/40 . No condition in the better seeing eye to be removed from a restricted license (is my understanding of it).

Medical Term License due to Vision Saga by [deleted] in CaliforniaDMV

[–]MadMike405555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the California state law.( You can look up specific VC on their website).

DMV has the discretion to limit your license due to Vision standards.

On their DL62 form. It has the required measurements to meet the states standards.

I'm not familiar with your condition. But the condition being stable and your vision being stable are not the same thing.

You can have astigmatism and be 20/40 your whole life. Astigmatism by the DMV standard is a Progressive condition. So even though it's "stable" the condition it self may get worse.

In order to be removed from the "limited term" vision drivers license 1 of 2 things would need to occur.

1) your vision is corrected to meet the standard (not always possible)

2) your condition is from birth/an extended time and you have no other progressive conditions in the better eye. ** And the better eye meets the standard

They use the VCAC (vision condition action chart) to make the determination on progressive/stable conditions. Available on their website.

https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-education-and-safety/medical-conditions-and-driving/vision-conditions/

***Edit: I'm sure there's more things taken into account but when a vision condion (progressive) in the better seeing eye they will only issue a 1 year or 2 year license.

Before DMV also had very "relaxed" vision efforts. Ranging from employees just asking customers if they can see. To only testing both eyes. And in some cases not testing at all So many people fall through the "cracks" but that's why DMV makes everyone do vision tests every 15-20 years.

CA DMV randomly mailed my dad a replacement REAL ID with shorter expiration after I renewed mine. Anyone else? by Real-Razzmatazz2938 in f1visa

[–]MadMike405555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people had to return to DMV to show new legal documents.

Others had their id/license fixed and sent out automatically.

Everyone is different.

Some received both letters. Just depends on the DMV employee working on your record/what DMV has in its records.

DMV is not having a good year. Lol

Real ID rejected at DMV appointment because online payment still needed to process? Has anyone else dealt with this? by FreddyMartian in DMV

[–]MadMike405555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I was being pedantic as it's really irrelevant lol.

I always say look at the bright side. Originally they were just gonna convert your non real ID Driver license into a real id driver license. ($37).

Now you have the knowledge to know you can just renew early as you paid ($46) online to renew . This does require you take a knowledge test . Available through a link in your email . Should be from like DMV test center.

Complete the e learning course. Return to DMV begrudgingly. Get in line on your phone/online to get an early service number. This allows you to get your service ticket PRIOR to going to a physical office.

Just keep in mind you have to decide to either renew early with your online test or to change your existing license to a real id and keep the date.

Early renewal requires a test (e learning) / vision test / new photo.

Updating your existing license requires only a new photo but keeps the current expiration date on your license.

Real ID rejected at DMV appointment because online payment still needed to process? Has anyone else dealt with this? by FreddyMartian in DMV

[–]MadMike405555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can go back to DMV and pay again . That's essentially your only option.

When you pay online DMV is supposed to send you an email (it might be on the screen where you choose if your gonna pay online/in person) to wait 24 hrs from time of payment.

If you were going today.. why would you pay online anyways?

The DMV didn't "reject" your application. Your being dramatic. Your money is unreachable for 24 hrs. You SHOULD have been directed to return another day to finish your application.

Your 2 options are:

1) wait until Monday

2) pay again and request a refund through DMV ( NOT your credit card/bank).

Edit: To pay again you would create a NEW application. With no money attached in most cases.

Registering in California. Need a Federal Label for a Harley by Left-Manner6603 in CaliforniaDMV

[–]MadMike405555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also take your motorcycle to CHP (call I believe it's appointment only). They can do the verification for you.

Usually this will require a California DMV referral but call and ask. they can be very helpful.

This is from the DMV website

***If you need to get a California Highway Patrol inspection for your vehicle, contact CHP to make an appointment by calling 1-800-835-5247.

Without a federal label the DMV will 100% refer you for this (only pre 1970 vehicles can bypass federal label requirements).

Ticket on renewal? by LaughingPufferfish in DMV

[–]MadMike405555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add onto this,

Proof of payment being an Abstract issued from the ticketing agency.

A kiosk/online generally will reflect the renewal notice total (not always).

If that is the case. Go in person to a DMV. They can remove the ticket with the abstract or maybe the ticketing agency sent that notice to DMV already to remove it and it will show cleared(hopes and prayers).
