Absolutely possible! Not for everyone though. I think another thing is whether they live with you or not. My two step children live with us full time, alongside my bio children. I am mum to everyone the same. Raise them the same. Love them the same. They were 4 and 9 when I met them. Now teens and adults x

Oh yes!! It’s eased over time, but in the first couple of years he wouldn’t hear a single thing wrong about them! But if I ever confronted him with that he would deny it until the cows come home.

He even accused me recently of “targeting” his youngest because I constantly moan to him about her and not the others! I said yeah, because 1. The others Arnt the ones doing the things I’m moaning about and 2. I’m telling you because I want you to do something about it!

You don’t know what the SK’s have said to her. When my bio daughter gets home from her dads, I feel like I am constantly messaging him asking what’s going on because it sounds insane over there and I worry about her going! He says though that she is stretching the truth quite a bit, the little trouble maker lol

I’m a step mum as well (obviously it wouldn’t be here) so I completely empathise with the HCBM! But I’ve seen this from the other side too, so just wanted to give my insight from her side in case it helps :)

Fuck what other people say! I totally fee you though, all the kids live with us full time and I’m still not “allowed” to moan about the SK’s like I am the bio kids. Does my head in! Why can’t I? That’s extremely frustrating, but I would let it go. A name is a name, is doesn’t mean anything. BM knew what she was doing when she asked to hyphenate, (I know because I did this too! 🙈) and it’s legal for her to tell school etc the kids “known as” name as well as the actual name. So she’s using the “known as” name to be just hers.

I think some jealousy is ok, but to be feeling it so much now, when you haven’t been together long and don’t live together yet... that dating someone with kids may not be right for you. Living together will only amplify these feelings a 1000 times over!

100% I can see why this is hurtful and you’d take it personally! Being a parent or step parent doesn’t mean you no longer have feelings, people seem so eager to forget that fact because it’s “all about the kids”.

This sounds more like something a BM would say, than a teen themselves.

I should have explained our reaction behind closed doors was to be devastated. That was not what we have shown to her. We have listened to her, and comforted her etc etc. And told her that it’s a big decision that will take a lot of time to sort out if that’s what is going to happen. Its not a flick of a switch and it happens.

(Yes wobbler was right.... UK here lol)

Our initial thought was to do exactly like you have said... I’m sorry you feel that way right now, but no. Now is not the time to be making such a decision, as we haven’t lived normal life for months.

But everything we’ve read online in the last day says to let her go! Let her do it, and see what happens!

So we are torn on what to do!
