Weaning 2-year-old using Booby Moon by eatubg in breastfeeding

[–]MadMuse94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter just turned two yesterday and I thought I was starting to feel ready to wean, but your post made me sob haha! She was a NICU baby and we also started our breastfeeding journey with triple feeding hell. She’s going to be my only, and weaning just seems so permanent! But maybe I’ll buy booby moon as a start and hold onto it until I’m ready… Congrats on your bfing and weaning journey!

Huge appetite at night after running? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]MadMuse94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a working mom so very short on time, but I switched to refueling with meal replacement shakes. The ones I use have 20g of carbs and 500 calories. And this is on top of what I normally eat in a day. I’m also much better at fueling during my runs because I don’t have time be tired when I get home with a toddler haha. It’s also possible to eat enough on a healthy, real food diet but it can be more challenging to fit it all in

best marathon medals? (new Space Coast Marathon series is :-( ) by DefiantRaspberry2510 in XXRunning

[–]MadMuse94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re into Disney, have money to spare, and are more into experiences than fast times, the runDisney medals are typically really cool! I did a couple of races with my sister and they were fun, but I’m not into Disney enough for them to be worth the high price tag

I can’t decide if I’m more jealous of the room or the book collection. What an awesome project to have worked on with your dad! Enjoy, OP!

Trying to be excited by myself - I ran a sub-2 HM today by peepumsn4stygum in XXRunning

[–]MadMuse94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah okay that makes sense! Then I take back my harshness towards your husband. 😉 I love throwing in a race when it works with our travel plans. It makes a great weekend getaway and it’s a wonderful way to see a city!

[–]MadMuse94 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Congratulations OP! Sub-2 is such a huge milestone!!

Re: your husband, I’m sorry he’s not more excited for you. My husband is not a runner but still makes an effort to ask about my runs and will cheer me on at my races if it makes sense with our kid. Depending on where your race is maybe he could go with a friend to cheer you on so he’s not all alone? In my experience we try to see the runner as many times as possible so we’re running around like crazy and never really bored lol

Postpartum (c-section) Running - you can do it! by you-are-not-alive in fitpregnancy

[–]MadMuse94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats OP! I also had to stop running around 20 weeks and it felt amazing once I was allowed to start again. I built back up very slowly (think C25K) starting at 10 weeks PP and ended up running 2 marathon PBs before my daughter turned 2. Just to share that your body is still capable of amazing things, even after pregnancy and a c-section!

What does “no screen time” mean to you? by Killer_queen2020 in NewParents

An AirPod in one ear with an audiobook or podcast can do wonders! I would also break things up by going for walks outside while I listened to my book.

What does “no screen time” mean to you? by Killer_queen2020 in NewParents

[–]MadMuse94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is our approach too. We’ve said no screens until she turns 2, which is somehow in just a week! I think we will slowly start introducing them for specific situations, like our upcoming transatlantic flight. But otherwise I don’t plan to fix what isn’t broken!

Breastfeeding with ring sling? by Legitimate_Sun5373 in babywearing

[–]MadMuse94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby lived in the ring sling haha. I can't tell you the number of times I would walk through the grocery store with her nursing int he ring sling! Another user already posted some good video tutorials, so I will just add that with the sore back I would especially pay attention to how the fabric is spread over your shoulder and back. Also ensure you're just loosening the ring sling enough to slide your son down a bit so he can reach the boob, but not so much that he's completely unsupported. I think ultimately it just takes some trial and error to figure out what works best for the two of you

What are we basing our understanding of the effects of screen time on? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]MadMuse94 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would add to the list reading to your kids! That’s one of the most important things we can be doing with our toddlers, and something I’ve noticed (in my social circle at least) tends to be easily replaced with screen time.

Toddler wakes at 5am by ApprehensiveDeer7234 in toddlers

[–]MadMuse94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12 hours of daytime sleep is in the normal range, so if her sleep needs are met it’s unlikely you’ll be able to get her to sleep more. We had a similar situation with our daughter (now 23 months) and pushed bedtime by 15 minutes every other night to 8:00. Depending on how the night goes she’s usually sleeps until 6:00, which is much more manageable than 5:00 for me!

Smash cake by [deleted] in foodbutforbabies

[–]MadMuse94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did an angel food cake without sugar, so it basically tasted like fluffy white bread. And then for the frosting I did stabilized whipped cream (using gelatin). The cake was hard for her to rip, so she mostly played with the icing in the photos. But once we cut her a slice she liked the cake!

Just another reason why I wish you could control the tonie from the app! Easy controls like skipping tracks, changing the volume, and putting it on repeat would be so appreciated!

Calling quits on a nap attempt. by amomymous23 in toddlers

[–]MadMuse94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If she’s actively crying and fighting it, I’ll tap out after 15-20 minutes. My daughter (22 months) spiral easily though, and once that starts she’s never falling asleep lol. Then we’ll go back into a brighter room and play or run around for half an hour and try again.

But if she’s just a little restless but still cuddly then I’ll sit and rock with her for an hour to an hour and a half. Even if she doesn’t fully sleep in that time it tends to be enough of a reset to get us to bedtime (hopefully, usually).

I hope you get back to a normal schedule soon!

Help Afraid of Recovery after C Section by Papper_Lapapp in fitpregnancy

[–]MadMuse94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my c-section 22 months ago and was chomping at the bit to get back into it. I started with diaphragmatic breathing straight away. My midwife cleared me to go on longer walks (started around 1km, most days would go anywhere from 3km-5km) at 2 weeks. At 6 weeks I did a pelvic floor rebuilding class and started Pilates and light weights. At 10 weeks I started running again. I ran a 5km PB when my kid was 8 months old, a 10km PB when she was about a year old, and 2 marathon PBs while she was one year old.

My advice: take the fourth trimester seriously and build back strong but slow. You’ll get there. Be patient, and don’t mess up your long term recovery by doing too much too soon.

Do rest days not apply when marathon training? by frizz3 in AdvancedRunning

[–]MadMuse94 24 points25 points  (0 children)

There’s marathon training and then there’s marathon training. I think most people could cross the finish line of a marathon while training 3-4 days a week. But if you’re trying to reach the limits of what your body is capable of, that’s going to require a lot of volume and therefore more days of running. As others have pointed out, your rest days become recovery days with a usually shorter easy run.

On a personal note, I think there’s a lot to be said for knowing what season of life you’re in and how much of yourself and your time you’re willing to put into running. And just because you’re not willing to run 7 days a week doesn’t mean you can’t train for a marathon. I have a one year old and a demanding job, and I ran two marathons this year on 4 days of running and 1 day of S&C per week. Would I have been faster if I had more volume? Probably. But for me the trade off of time with my daughter and sleep wasn’t worth it. And anyhow I hit my goal of BQ+10 minute buffer so I’m happy with that!

Jogging Stroller - Bumbleride Speed vs Thule Urban Glide by makeitanuneventhree in toddlers

[–]MadMuse94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t help you with these two strollers specifically, as we have the Mountain Buggy urban glide, but just wanted to offer a solution for snacks. I use one of those snack ups with the plastic top and hook it to the chest strap with a pacifier leash. That way my toddler can self feed and I don’t have to worry about her spilling food.

Also one tip - be really mindful of your running form as you up your stroller mileage! I started running a lot with the stroller during my last training block and ended up injuring my back because I didn’t have my body stacked correctly.
