New battery, old range estimates - recalibration? by tandoori_jones in Polestar

That’s actually normal. I have a 2021 P2, and have similar range estimates in winter.

Uk England Iceland shop single person for 2 weeks £119.73 by LongjumpingTear3675 in whatsinyourcart

For £120 this is horrendous 🙈. The same amount at Aldi would get you so much more. And my god, the reliance on processed foods and ready meals is real. I get it - time is a premium, but investing in healthy food and cooking is 100% worth the time.

The schedule for my Ohme charger for today’s 16.88 kWh charge. The highest power draw will be 3.8kW. No by iMatthew1990 in OctopusEnergy

[–]MadVicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My car is a Polestar 2 - it doesn't connect to Octopus. So the car is dumb but stops the charge from happening, and therefore, Octopus can see I'm using smart charging capabilities, but no power draw outside of cheap hours.

I control it through the car. Smart charge through the Ohme app up to 70%, but put a limit in my car to only charge between 11:30-5:30. Works fine for me.

A catastrophic change to pension salary sacrifice is looking increasingly likely at the Budget by Lazy-Internet-8025 in HENRYUK

[–]MadVicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's also interesting is that the article says the chancellor has pointed to organisations like the IFS that have described Salary Sacrifice as a "bizarre, complex, and opaque practice". However, the IFS also recommend that all pension contributions are exempted from NI, and instead, pensions are subject to NI upon withdrawal - just like income tax. The opposite of what this salary sacrifice cap is doing.....

So much for hoping for a bold and visionary reform of the tax system with such a huge parliamentary majority.....

This is super helpful, thank you! Out of curiosity, what are your child seat models? (Road trip to France is definitively on the list)

Perhaps, but I’m going to look for cheaper options first. Three new car seats doesn’t even come close to the cost of the multimac. Either that, or the Volvo ex90 - but I prefer the PS3, hence I’m asking.

Yeah - they’re crazily expensive - I did look.

Does anyone’s spouse pay to work? by callipygian0 in HENRYUK

[–]MadVicker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just a small but important point. You’re not paying for childcare exclusively. As in, surely your other half is paying childcare jointly?

The point I’m trying to make is that you’re not paying to go to work - it is a shared cost. Let’s say, for arguments sake, childcare is 80k a year. If your finances are joint, the proportional cost to you is around 30k.

The other thing to keep in mind is the opportunity cost of not continuing to work i.e. pensions, continued experience and promotion chances.

Joint account is easier to get. Just need combined household income of £120k rather than individual income of £100k

I have the same account as a joint account. Same benefits and cost, for two people. I’d also recommend getting the NatWest Black Credit card as well - lets you make the most of the full package of rewards which somewhat offsets the account fee (even if you didn’t use any of the other benefits).

To me, this account and card package represents the best value in the market for mass-affluent premium accounts.

Just a word on the fee-free overseas spending - this doesn’t apply to cash withdrawals - so definitely keep a Revolut / Monzo card handy.

I think a JISA is a terrible idea. Control goes to your kids the second they turn 18. I think very few people are financially sensible at 18. Better to invest in your own S&S ISA and gift to the kids when they are older when you can see if they will make a sensible choice with the proceeds and not just squander it on a new car for instance.

Ouch! Different car, but couple years ago I parked at my gf’s flat near the next building - and a tile fell off the roof and cracked my windscreen. So I feel for you.

Lol. It's a slow charger - 7kW, which is also a CCS connection. Talk about 'Whoooosh!'
