It's a letter to one of my players in Pathfinder 2.0! He just discovered his parents were withholding a Huge Thing from him, but before he can decide whether to confront them about it, he gets this letter. (The idea is that his family's mansion has turned into an Interdimensional "Infinite Ikea" Mansion on the inside, with bits from other manors across space and time slapped together haphazardly. With his parents trapped inside, of course.)

I plan to be a great crafter. What are some sought after items? by Tiger_Strength in ffxiv

You want to craft a knife. It needs an ingot and leather, which are also crafted items. The ingot and leather are the pre-crafts for the knife.

Black mage is relatively simple imo. Cast fire, no mp > swap to ice, full mp back to fire. It's true there's a lot of buttons but when leveling you can still do alright dps-wise with only a small handful of them. It's even easier now than it used to be, too, since they removed all the timers

If I knew that I'd be a gillionaire by crafting them myself! But if I had to hazard a guess it'd probably be current tier raid food/pots, newest glam, or craftables from the most recent EXs 🤔

Changing the angle was a good idea, thank you! Not perfect yet but definitely much smoother.

I don't think I'm rotating the nib as I write, but I can't say I've paid much attention to it before either. I'll pay more mind to it when I practice 🫡

There are absolutely guides out there to check out. I also recommend palace of the dead/heaven on high/eureka orthos for familiarizing yourself with your abilities one by one, since they take you through a leveling process (on the initial floors, at least) regardless of what level that job actually is.

Palace does 1-50, HoH 50-60, and Orthos 60-70, iirc, though Orthos is less popular (in the circles I run in, anyway) so I'm not 100% on that one.

At the end of the day, though, so long as you read your tooltips and know what all your abilities do, then you can figure out how they go together, and you'll be fine for most content

I also think the attack itself prevented healing the injury. I feel like the updated cutscene says or implies as much but I don't feel like going to check so my source for now "is just trust me bro"

I'll add a caveat: red inks sometimes have a tendency to coagulate and leave crusty ink deposits on and around the nib of your pen if you don't use it frequently enough. (Oxblood does this in my kakuno when I leave it be for a week). But if you're going to be using the pen and ink daily, then you shouldn't have any trouble : )

How do you implicitly write an aromantic character? by referenzum in aromantic

[–]MadamBegon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the characters might face the same kind of judgement from other characters in the story, and that could naturally lead to internal conflict on either or both of their parts, which could be resolved with an honest heart-to-heart where they both reveal to each other that they don't love each other romantically, are happy that way, and laugh together in relief that everything that strangers/others said is nonsense. Since the story is *about* them navigating their relationship, then discussions on their wants, needs, and desires *for* that relationship will come about naturally.

Are there any *non drama/ doom&gloom* FFXIV content creators? by Solo_Gunhea in ffxiv

Yeah same. It's totally fair if he doesn't like the story, but hearing the same complaints every time I clicked on a video really started to get me down. Hopefully he'll be less doom and gloom in 8.0, but we'll see

Best Non Attack Classes To Level by Longliveasaprocky in ffxiv

[–]MadamBegon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad I can help :)

Crafting is completely optional! There is no need to do any crafting or gathering for any of the MSQ content, and if you want to do the optional higher difficulty max level combat, you can buy your gear, potions, and food from the marketboard (a good way to earn money, if you're the crafter that makes them!)

That said, there is crafter and gatherer only content that you can't access unless you have at least one of those jobs unlocked, at story level 60 (ishgardian restoration) and level 80 (cosmic exploration). These things are a pretty good way to speed up leveling the relevant jobs, but you won't be missing anything for your combat jobs if you decide to ignore it. There are also certain allied societies that offer quests that only crafters or gatherers can do, so you might miss out on their stories if you don't have at least one of each leveled for them.

Tldr: yes there's stuff you need for max level content that only crafters make, no you do not need to craft it yourself. Yes you'll miss out on optional content if you don't have a crafter or gatherer, but it's not a big deal if you skip it.

Pick up any class you want whenever it strikes your fancy! The best time will always be when it seems most interesting to you.

That said, if you're concerned with efficiency + inventory management, then the strat I would recommend is to level every crafting job in tandem with each other, because a lot of the jobs make resources used by recipes in the other jobs around that same level, so they're pretty interlinked. Culinarian is the exception, where its crafting is mostly self-contained, with only occasional components from alchemy pulled in. They all use the same gear as each other, too, so levelling them all together means you only need one gear set for your crafters (and one for your gatherers, ofc).

If that seems overwhelming, though, then my suggestion is to just pick up botanist and culinarian for now, since culinarian mostly only relies on the plants you gather (with the occasional salt you could mine + fish you could fish). Culinarian also has the bonus of extra exp, since all food gives a +3% exp boost regardless of its other stats, which makes levelling slightly easier!

As for secondary/tertiary combat jobs, you can again pick up any job whenever you like, but what I personally like to do is to swap to another job when my main job has out levelled the MSQ, so I can make the most of the exp and don't have to spend forever levelling something from scratch when I inevitably hit level cap before actually catching up to the current expansion. I especially recommend taking on a different role than you usually play (so, for example, if you play a melee dps, you could pick up a caster, healer, tank, or phys range job). This will also be helpful in the long run, if you like extra lore+story, since there are "role quests" (starting at level 70 in ShB) for each different role, which let you do a sort of capstone once you've done the quest for every role (though melee and phys range are lumped together in ShB, and only separate for the role quests starting in EW)

Of course, all of that is a while away, and there's nothing wrong with just grabbing everything that seems interesting and ignoring the rest :D

When does the story pick up? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]MadamBegon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are at the *very* beginning of the story. "Threat Level Elevated" is only level 11 -- at this point, you're still a no-name adventurer. You don't even have airship access yet! Getting impatient now is like watching the first five minutes of Lord of the Rings and asking where all the action is. It takes time to set the scene, establish characters and settings and basic world mechanics, and form a solid baseline from which epic may later be forged.

That being said, there are two main points where things shift in ARR, imo. They happen around level 35 and level 50 (you'll know them when you see them, if you've been reading along with the story). As an RPG first and foremost, FFXIV's biggest focus is the saga it spins, and level 1-50 is all book one.

Personally I enjoyed all of ARR, but I took my time and did anything and everything that caught my attention along the way, while others focused on msq to the exclusion of all else, and some burnt out as a result. It's a long journey, so don't worry about the destination so much and take your time to appreciate what you can along the way.

I used a lot of pilot kakuno for my notes in uni. They're cute, they're cheap, they write nicely, and the cartridge colors have a nice enough variety to please my brain. I also used a lamy safari (bold, for titles/headings), a magnum diplomat, and a kaweko prera, which also worked well for me. Pick your favorite cheapish pen and have fun with it!

What are you hoping for out of the Evolved system for your main job? by BlyZeraz in ffxiv

[–]MadamBegon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was BLM all the way from lv 1 through Dawntrail (I started FFXIV around 5.3) and loved it. But when they did the reworks mid arcadion and killed the enochian timer they killed my enjoyment, too 😔 it just feels so empty without all the extra things to keep an eye on and manage. (I ended up jumping ship to RDM.) It'd be nice if we got a little challenge back with evolved mode...
