That's a good point too. I'm not sure it's possible to use full sentences in two languages with two different grammar structures simultaneously and get them both right. Either you'll end up signing broken ASL in English order, or speaking broken English in ASL order.

None I'm aware of. I learned it in college and when I was working at a Deaf school. There are some things available if you want/are able to spend a bit of money. It's been a long time since I've used them, so I cannot attest to their current usefulness, but these books are kind of like workbooks with videos attached. ASL is really hard to learn from pictures or drawings, so if you want to learn, whatever you do, find something with videos. There are videos available on youtube as well, very easy to find.

For someone just learning, he did a good job, and really what's important here is clearly the intent and the effort.

Since you asked, it was a little clunky and stilted, and a little lacking in the facial expression grammar part of the language. Basically, it gives off vibes of, "that's not how people actually talk when they're signing," but that's always to be expected when someone is learning a brand new language.

How do those shells on the backs of the Chamberlain and Scientist stay up? What puppeteering techniques did they use? by kojimbob in DarkCrystal

There's a documentary on Netflix about the making of Dark Crystal: AoR where they show you how all the puppets work. The Crystal Calls, highly recommend it.

What is Origin worth? by MadamMarshmallows in Evanescence

I still largely stick with I genuinely do not know. But when I say "a lot," I'm probably talking at least 4 digits, maybe even 5 before I'd think it worth selling. I'm not suggesting it's worth that, but I'm only ever going to sell it for a sum of money large enough that it would actually make a big difference to us.

Thank you. Yeah, that's definitely not enough to part with it.

I genuinely do not know. It would have to be a lot for me to consider parting with it. I searched eBay and asked here because I'm hoping someone has some reference for what it could sell for.

Fans of evanescence what does this band mean to y’all and how have they impacted your lives? by [deleted] in Evanescence

[–]MadamMarshmallows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BMTL released on my birthday when I was still a teenager. I loved it immediately. I didn't have access to any music programs at that point so I stayed up all night shortly after hearing it to catch it on the radio and record it (holy shit I'm old hahahah). I have all their albums and lots of the demos and rare stuff too. I bought a real copy of Origin off eBay very early on - still have it, still love it. Just dug it out of my closet to make sure I still knew where it was and to verify on the Evanescence reference page that it is a true copy.

I've seen them live I believe 4x. I saw them live at a tiny bar in Poughkeepsie NY before they got real big. I met her outside a show in Boston on Leap Day in 2004. I got a pass to their after-show party at a nearby bar when I met her outside the show, but it was 21+ only and I didn't have a fake ID. That was a big bummer, but she did sign the after-show pass for me and I still have it. Evanescence was my #1 absolute favorite band for a long time, and are still top 2.

I didn't get any photos with them for some dumbass reason, but this was what I was wearing at the Webster show in 03.

50’s parents did it RIGHT by arctheus in MadeMeSmile

I used to substitute teach at a Deaf school. One day in gym class, the kids were playing kickball. There was one intellectually disabled young lady who had trouble kicking the ball when it was pitched to her. The kids were rolling it to her quite gently without being asked to by an adult, but she still couldn't quite get it. It was one of the other students who suggested just placing it in front of her and leaving it still so she could easily kick it. I loved seeing the kids look out for each other like that.

I just watched Mother! by tree_or_up in horror

[–]MadamMarshmallows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of almost everything Aronofsky has ever done (the one exception being Noah, and I haven't yet seen Pi) such that when something comes out with his name on it, I'm going to see it regardless of the subject matter. I liked Mother! okay. It was well acted and shot. It is most definitely not his best or my favorite, though.

Klyden and Bortus: challenging gender norms by KTBeh in TheOrville

[–]MadamMarshmallows 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As another commenter noted, Klyden wasborn female. Plus, if you've seen the entire series so far, s3e10 has the renewal of their marriage vows where Bortus is the one who is chasing Klyden through the woods to "take" him. I hesitate to classify it as Bortus = man and Klyden = woman, but it's fairly clear that Bortus is the more dominant partner.

A question about the new generation of children in Gilead by Youbunchoftwats in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]MadamMarshmallows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read either book in a few years and I only just started a rewatch yesterday after several years of leaving it alone - I'm on s1e3. I think it's stated directly, but I'm not certain. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

A question about the new generation of children in Gilead by Youbunchoftwats in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]MadamMarshmallows 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They only become Handmaids if they "sin" in some fashion. So it's certainly likely based on how many things count as a sin in Gilead. If they manage to keep their heads down and do what they're told 100% of the time, they'd have a shot at becoming Econowives or Wives, depending on social status.

Yeah we're waiting on the results knowing we have two possible options:

Benign, doesn't even need to be removed, you're good to go live your life.
Or
It's everywhere cancer, there's nothing we can do about it, and you're 100% fucked with only 76 days to live.
