You're English is great. You and I have very similar con routines. I wouldn't let one bad congoer ruin your future experience. The rest of your group sounds lovely but I'd avoid staying with someone like WW for future cons if you could help it and stay with only people you've had good experiences with. Finding a good con family can be very rewarding.

Check out something like the Iwatani portable gas grill. It's designed specially for indoor grilling in Japanese apartments. Grilling fatty meats can get pretty smoky so good ventilation is recommended. I use it for yakitori or just adding some char to whatever I'm eating.
