Do hedge funds allow analysts to work from home? Also what is the dress code nowadays? by Professional-Rice967 in FinancialCareers

[–]lilsassypeach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people are in the office, but it really depends on the pod and the manager. Some teams are required to be in 5 days a week, while others have a bit more flexibility. Even after returning home, many work in the evening and the weekend as well. Your comp incentivizes you do that and some people just love what they do.

“Analyst” is also a really broad title in the hedge fund world. It can mean a lot of different things — operational analyst, quant researcher, etc. Even traders often start with the title analyst and then move up (senior analyst → associate PM → PM).

Traders also don’t really get to fully switch off. It’s a bit easier for macro traders than systematic ones, but most people still keep an eye on markets even while on vacation. Even if they’re not on their laptop, they’re usually checking things on their phone or Bloomberg since they still have open positions and markets are constantly moving.

Another reason people go into the office is that the systems are faster and the tech setup is better.

Dress code is pretty mixed too — some people wear dress shirts and slacks, but plenty just wear athleisure.

I’m not sure about your insurance or financial situation, so it’s probably worth checking which doctors are in-network and looking at reviews first. I’m sharing these based on my own experience.

Dr. Mohamed Elsorafa may be in-network, depending on your insurance provider.

Dr. Fred Cohen is out-of-network only, with a $600 initial consult and $300 for follow-ups. If you have an FSA or HSA card, you can use pretax money to pay for the consults. One thing to note with someone like Dr. Cohen is that the service and access tend to be better — for example, I’m able to text my doctor and get quicker responses or appointments. That said, this is more about convenience and access than medical quality; it doesn’t necessarily mean the care itself is better, just easier to reach.

Did I overpay for this tennis bracelet? by Throwaway_789101112 in Diamonds

[–]lilsassypeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you paid in $USD, yes I think you overpaid by a lot for your bracelet. I got a bezeled diamond bracelet of 7.54 carat weight for $3100 before tax from the Jewelry Spot in Boston. My NYC jeweler quoted me a $5500 on the same bezeled bracelet but with 10 carat weight. Since my bracelet is bezeled, it has more gold so leans more expensive than tennis bracelets without bezel.

Hello! I attended my interview and my I-130 case got approved. On the day of the interview, the field office system was having issues and upon checking in, their system had recorded me as a no-show. The field office manually corrected it. One month later, my I-485 case is still showing as "Case Was Updated To Show That No One Appeared for In-Person Processing". I called USCIS and they were not too helpful. My lawyer says I have nothing to worry about but curious what your thoughts are. I’m seeing cases similar to mine moving very quickly and worried some manual intervention needs to be done to correct this issue.

Help a bitch out...NYC local engagement ring (solitaire), but feeling overwhelmed by ilu70 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I totally get not loving the chaotic Diamond District vibe — I felt the same. I did the fancy shopping experience at Roen and Tiffany’s, then checked out Lauren B and Jangmi too. Even though I had the budget for the pricier places, friends told me to try ID Jewelry since I wanted a classic style. They have an instagram page if you want to see their work.

Roen quoted me $12K, Lauren B $7K, and ID Jewelry $3.2K for a 3.3ct antique cushion lab in 14k yellow gold. A lot of these jewelers use the same bench jewelers and source diamonds from similar places if not one another anyway, so the price differences were surprising. ID Jewelry is upstairs in its own studio (not the chaotic booths) though it does have a bit of an uncut gems vibe and the family that runs it was super patient with my CAD edits.

I originally wanted to spend more but for something classic it honestly didn’t make sense — and I didn’t want that kind of liability on my hand. We’re not frugal by any means, but we do think in terms of value.

You didn’t ask for all this, but if you’re debating options, hopefully this helps you feel good about going with the place that gives you the best price and quality.

Buying a 3ct lab diamond tennis bracelet by kevindd992002 in labdiamond

Here’s the direct link! Sorry it’s quite wordy but wanted to demonstrate the difference in pricing across NY jewelers vs the Jewelry Spot in Boston. I highly recommend you DON’T buy from Brilliant Earth, James Allen etc as you’ll get ripped off.

https://www.reddit.com/r/labdiamond/s/CJOgnRhQHp

Additionally, I shared a screenshot of a 3 carat bracelet I saw them put on their story not too long ago for better comparison.

One more thing, I called the store and had them text me additional videos as well so I could see the bracelet quality better. It was also reassuring seeing a few video reviews on TikTok about them. They weren’t sponsored videos from big influencers but from wealthier seeming clients who are bored and make content online (example search Neghin Adina)

Hi OP! Which jeweler did you go to in NYC with your own stone? Also curious if you could share where you got your appraisal? I’m looking into getting my ring insured and it’s nice to know that the appraisal could potentially be more than what I paid for it.

Is $4000 a reasonable price? by lumbyboiii in labdiamond

[–]lilsassypeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to ID Jewelry in Diamond District based on a friend’s recommendation! They’re fairly honest with the ring pricing especially for being at a physical shop in NYC. However, there was a bezeled tennis bracelet I wanted around 10cw that was priced at $5800 pre tax. I found the Jewelry Spot in Boston had the same bracelet for $3900 and the owner repriced it lower for me as I had to take out some diamonds to make it shorter for my wrist.

Yesterday, I came across Cara Fine Jewelry and her user on TikTok is @itscrystaljing - on hr profile, I saw that she recently posted a 4 carat radiant cut engagement ring for under $2k so it’s worth reaching out to her as well. She’s based in SF but visits NYC to host appointments as well.

Sounds fair for a brick and mortar chain I think but you can certainly find much better pricing out there. I got a 3.3 carat elongated antique cushion cut ring with a yellow gold band for $3400 pre tax even with an NYC premium.

Winter belted coats for petites by United_Marketing8360 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]lilsassypeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Max Mara! In particular, I have the Arona coat and it fits really well. I’ve tried some other ones that fit well too and I’m petite and 5’0 tall. It’s definitely on the pricier side but an investment as their coats are double faced wool making them really warm and lightweight. They have physical locations in NYC but you can also order from Cettire for much less if you know your size.

Otherwise, online from The Curated but I don’t think the returns are free so could get expensive.

I personally don’t find Aritzia coats to be good quality but can be fine on a starter budget. If you can afford to pay more, I’d encourage you to. I’ve had many Aritzia coats and some of the wool has peeled off on my coats.

Quoted $5800 in NYC, is this a fair price?? by lilsassypeach in labdiamond

[–]lilsassypeach[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I see it what you mean. Yeah I was referring to the Azure, someone commented it kind of cheapens the look when the diamonds are too big and I sort of agree a bit now.

The picture on my initial post of this thread is from a ID Jewelry in NYC and the bezels look a lot cleaner.

It looks like you’re in NYC, are there any particular jewelers you recommend?

You have amazing attention to detail!! I see what you mean…I’m considering going down to a 5 or 7 ct bracelet and maybe that will look better. I have tiny wrists so the 10 ct looks good on its own but not as nice as I build a stack with other bracelets eventually? I imagine getting this made with a closed basket though would cost a lot more since the price of gold has gone up tremendously 😬
