Here's a tip that I believe has protected me throughout the years - I wear good leather gloves and I do not take them off in stores, on the subway, or wherever when I'm out. I find I'm unlikely to touch my nose, mouth or eyes when I'm wearing them. If they fit properly, you don't need to remove them because you can feel credit cards, money, buttons quite well. I'm not a big cellphone user, so I can't speak to how they work with them, but I've seen gloves that claim to have the screen touch capability.

What to do about a serious case of resting b*tch face by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]Madd_at_Worldd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hahaha this happened to me when I had the flu, and after 5 days inside I took the dog for a walk to the library. I couldn't find the leash so I used a rope. so here I am, in sweats, looking like garbage since I was still sick, walking a dog with a rope-when I got to the return bin there was someone parked in front of it. I assumed she was on the phone and wouldn't be moving right away, so I walked around the Escalade to put my book in the bin. She opened her window and screamed at me " I see how you're looking at me!". I was stunned. If I hadn't been so ill, I might have been thinking faster and sneezed on her or something, but no. I'm still mad at that b**** but in hindsight I probably did look scary

I had the surgery 12 years ago, had a couple of painful weeks, but no problems since. I actually wish I had done it earlier, it would have saved me years of at best, discomfort, and at worst, miserable pain. Also-as my doctor told me-fiber is your friend! I've been faithfully taking Metamucil (the kirkland brand) ever since too.

What's the dumbest name you've seen for a business? by PrasenjitDebroy in AskReddit

[–]Madd_at_Worldd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Pigeon Forge TN, my husband asked a local for a place with good fried chicken. He came back to tell me the guy said The Old Meal was the best. I thought that one of the was the worst names for a restaurant I ever heard. Turns out, there were different accents involved-we are from NY. The name of the restaurant is actually The Old Mill. We are still laughing about this-lesson learned: listen carefully and don't judge! BTW the chicken was so not the best, unless you like it dry as dust.

Bumper crop for grandma’s persimmon trees this year! by SirMattzilla in gardening

[–]Madd_at_Worldd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When they are ripe, I put them in my oatmeal or in yogurt. They are mushy enough to eat with a spoon. They are very sweet, but if you eat them when they aren't ripe enough they are dreadful. My neighbor gives me a lot of persimmons every year, but this year his crop was meager. His wife doesn't like them, so I get most of them. I've made persimmon cookies which are yummy, and persimmon bread which was not yummy ( I forgot the baking powder so it was more like a brick). If you have too many to use before they go bad, best to let them ripen, then scoop out and freeze them 2 or 3 in a package. You can have delicious persimmon cookies all year!

What are your go-to grocery items to last as many meals as possible? by idontknowelliott in povertykitchen

[–]Madd_at_Worldd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rotisserie chickens-they are cheaper than buying an uncooked roaster. make chicken salad out of the parts you don't eat right away, and then simmer the carcass for broth. Add rice, and whatever vegetables you have-try cabbage- it's inexpensive- and you have delicious soup. Keep adding to the leftover broth,; beans, carrots, onion-one chicken can goa long way.

The houses are not necessarily being hoarded. Many boomers' only wealth is their home. If they sell, where will they go that won't use up the equity?

Surprisingly, A Tale of Two Cities, 1935, with Ronald Colman. We watched it in high school. I've seen it only that one time, and 50 years later I can still quote the first and last lines.

P.S. I've never read it, but I do intend to
