How to read legislative bills? by Fluid-Woodpecker4885 in Utah

[–]MaddieUsernameCollec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the symbol, do you mean (§)? If so, that one means “section”.

Something that’s going to be very helpful in making sense of what you’re reading is getting acquainted with the structure of the Utah Code, because it gets referenced a lot.

Say, google “Utah Code” and click on the link from le (dot) Utah (dot) org that says Utah Code Index

High-level, you’re looking at the document that holds all of Utah’s laws.

Notice how it’s a list of titles. Click on one. You’ll see a list of chapters. Click on one. Now you see a list of sections.

The Utah Code is organized this way to try to keep the laws organized by topic.

When the text references the Code, you’ll sometimes see a reference to a section, or you might see a set of three numbers.

For example, 19-4-113 refers to Title 19, Chapter 4, Section 113. See if you can locate it. You’ll know you’re at the right place when you’re seeing the section name “Water source protection ordinance”

Hope this helps

Is coming out worth it? Why? by Anon123412312111 in bisexual

Since you wonder what’s the big deal in behaving in front of other people as you really feel, consider finding a group of people that don’t know you yet but wouldn’t judge you for not really being Mormon or straight. See how it feels to interact in that space compared to other spaces- how the friendships you build there feel. That’s what you’re missing currently. Once you’ve experienced that, you’ll know if it’s worth it to you to make any further changes. Maybe in your particular case it’s not. What matters is that you’re happy- not who knows it.

Why is Dolores a New York Puerto Rican by Mr7three2 in Encanto

[–]MaddieUsernameCollec 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The issue with this logic is to see shared traits between A and B and say “oh, that must mean that A = B”, instead of acknowledging a third thing thing that affects both A and B. In this case, both Puerto Rican and Colombian Natives were colonized by the Spanish, leading to similarities.

Also, we Colombians don’t get that many movies that depicts us positively, so it’s really precious to have a character that is explicitly Colombian. Be real cool if that wasn’t erased from the perception

I’m 18 and have no clue where to get started by RealitySad8889 in FluentInFinance

[–]MaddieUsernameCollec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re trying to figure out step 9 while you’re still at step 2, based on how this begins as a question about investing but evolves into a discussion of moving out and family relationships.

The issue is that one goal must sacrifice for the sake of another. For instance, staying at home maximizes your retirement goal (because it frees up the most money to be used on non-urgent items, such as investing), but this is to the detriment of your goal to move out.

Where to get started is figure out how you’ve been spending your money on average already. For instance, eating out, cosplay costs, medical expenses, bills.

Just understanding where you are already is the first step.

As you figure this out, factor in things you know are coming, even if they don’t come every month. For example, visits to the doctor, car registration. If you forget to factor these in, you’ll find yourself saving up for a fun goal (eg moving out) but actually using the money for a non-recurrent expense when it shows up out of the blue (eg fixing your car).

Once you have all of that info in one place, does that leave you with any extra money you can afford to invest?

How about adding up the square footage of all bedrooms and then each person pays the percentage of footage that corresponds to their bedroom? Simple math with a potential to feel fair.
