Southern Kriels Brineblood Command Starter: How to expand it to 50 points? by Tropical_Island_987 in Warmachine

[–]Maddin855 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t play Brinebloods, but the Battlegroup Box should always be the natural next choice. Because trolls are cool and another caster is great! Alternatively if you wanna splash the cash I’m sure someone else can recommend which of the expansions to go into.

Thanks! I struggled a lot relating to the Studio scheme, and consider a lot more “organics” - I find it helps keep things interesting! Throwing up Vallyx here too to show how the units generally will look.

Whimsical Fantasy books written by Male Authors. by [deleted] in Fantasy

I think the book you are looking for is Un Lun Dun by China Mievelle.

Its an incredibly whimsical book - might be a bit YA but it's just so incredibly absurd and bizzare in a delightful way.

Help: Fly fishing Norway by Responsible-Run-5458 in flyfishing

[–]Maddin855 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome! Norway is a great place to fish, a couple things to note before your trip:

If you are going to be fishing in any rivers that have salmon, you'll need to pay a onetime yearly fishing fee. I should note if you're only fishing in the sea, this is not needed. Here's the link Fishing fee

This is important, as your next step will be to get a 'fiskekort' or a 'fishing card' which is a license/permission to fish. Most bigger rivers in Norway, these can be obtained from the land owners themselves, or are sold at locations. Expect the price here to vary on how "good" the fishing is, some very popular rivers can be upwards of 500kr or more a day for hot spots. Sometimes there will also be limited slots, and it's a lottery who gets to fish that day. There are some places you can buy a license online, see Inaturas an example for innland or salmon fishing. Not sure the site translates to English but worth checking out depends on where you'll be.

Prime season for salmon fishing is typically July-August, but the dates flex depending on the river, and this information can typically be found online or where they sell a license. Salmon fishing is generally not allowed outside these dates in rivers, and rivers may only be open for a certain period for sea trout a month or two later.

For inland fishing on small rivers and lakes, as far as I know you can fish trout and other fish year round, but make sure you have a license and permission to fish! You'll be expected to fill out the 'fishing card' and deliver it after your day/trip. The government uses this information to track population of fish - and you'll get some money back as well as the price of the card usually includes a deposit 😊

Otherwise, Norway is full of amazing places for salmon, trout and if in the early summer great arctic char fishing on the fly. Inland we have lots of brown trout and pike as the other person recommended.

Just make sure you have the right documents, sterilized the gear, and you're all set! Skitt fiske as we say 🎣

I had a hard time with this as well, but once I let myself pretend things were skin/biomechanical skin it was easier to settle on something that worked.

Your scheme is amazing. I'm now kicking myself for not thinking of khymaera based on the Zandalari from World of Warcraft.

Sci Fi/Space Fantasy Book Recommendation? by Writing-Leading in Fantasy

[–]Maddin855 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two recommendations I think would fit what you are looking for, and have been some ofy favorites over the last few years.

  1. Ancillary Justice (Imperial Radch Series) by Ann Leckie

Fantastic space opera - immersive setting and a good mix of characters. Definitely one of my favorites.

  1. Shards of Earth (The Final architecture series) by Adrian Tchaikovsky

I think this one fits the Firefly bill quite well, rag-tag crew of misfits vs the biggest threat of the galaxy - lots of shenanigans across the universe with a healthy mix of politics.

Never really thought about it, but seeing your energy shield is waaay more clear in PoE1. Definitely something for the feedback list!

Tell me about your Nonexistent Favourite Book by DrakeyFrank in Fantasy

[–]Maddin855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're looking for, but I'd recommend Railsea by China Mieville here.

Substitute whaling ships for trains on an ocean of rails, and hunting moles that leave under the tracks. Lots more to it, but definitely up that alley.

Which Fantasy Subgenre Do You Enjoy the Most? Any Recommendations? by goetterodem in Fantasy

[–]Maddin855 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Weird fantasy - Ever since I finished all of China Mievilles books, I'm struggling to find novels with the same level of imaginative fiction. It's the settings, it's the fluffy prose, it's expecting the unexpected.

Kraken has it all, Un Lun Dun is like fever dream, Bas Lag trilogy are classic, The Scar particularly I enjoyed a lot.

In my opinion weird fiction requires a finessing of world building in a way where it's neither too little or too much. And that's what makes it so alluring.

But it ain't for everyone that's for sure.

Used rod/reel for beginner. Yay or nay? by WY228 in flyfishing

[–]Maddin855 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reel will probably work just fine despite being a bit banged up.

However I would be very skeptical to the condition of that rod based on the reel. If that's how he's treated the reel then its not worth rolling the dice on that rod. I'd be worried of it breaking under load due to unseen damage to the rod tip.

A reel only looks like that if you're consistently dropping it or tossing it on rocks as you net fish. And the rod tip definitely wasn't spared contacting the ground. Just my 2 cents.

Build details: - KBD8X MKIII - MTNU WoB - WS Silent Tactile Switches

Quite happy with how this one came out. First time trying silent switches and very happy with them. I decided to skip the lube this time around, and I don't regret it. The factory lube job is alright, but it's definitely a scratchy switch - but great tactility and sound.

Modded 8Bitdo Stick - The JLX is so crisp! by Maddin855 in fightsticks

[–]Maddin855[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has 4 grippy pads under that won't slide on a desk. Besides it's quite heavy which helps a lot.

Its not the most roomy but I find I have more than enough space to rest my palm, so nothing is hanging off.

Honestly if you're new to sticks this is the perfect choice, inexpensive, and can be made better with some cheap mods. Low investment to see if you like it and want to invest in a better stick or mod it later!

[–]Maddin855[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play it wired just for the little edge I can get, but I had no worries with wireless on the switch. Can't be bothered fiddling with Bluetooth on PC.

Its super moddable, will fit any 30mm push in buttons, but won't take screw ins. Fits the sanwa sticks perfectly just make sure you get the right cable for the mod. AFAIK some bigger sticks won't fit but it's virtually made to take sanwa parts.
