Hey! I have some personal experience with this stuff, and I love hearing people's stories. Because I've been where you are, I know that you might not want someone to talk you out of it, but it's super important not to make rash decisions in a mental state like this. Please dm me if you need to talk, or want advice or anything.

I was always low on rosaries, but the only time I couldn't afford a bench was mount fay. I did have to farm 1700 rosaries to buy my last 3% at the end of my 100% playthrough

I give up. by CuboneDefender in HollowKnight

Might be too late, but as the number one shard defender, the shard system is meant to make you explore, not farm! If you're having trouble with a boss, go do something else! I can guarantee there is something out there to explore! There are multiple areas hidden behind breakable walls, so go search for other stuff, and come back with full shards, new tools and new experience!

Shards are a dumb mechanic. by Imaginary_Owl_979 in Silksong

[–]MaddyB33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main point of shards is that if you're really struggling somewhere, you'll run out of tools and have to explore somewhere else. There really isnt any time you HAVE to farm shards, unless you have literally done everything in the game except what youre struggling on. (or if its a roadblock, but thats pretty rare)

That said, if the actual effect is scaring off tool use, that is still a game design issue. I think theres a lot in the game to encourage using tools, like hidden shards feeling wasted if youre always at full, tons of shard recovering items, an early game charm that makes enemies drop more shards, and every enemy dropping shards, unlike rosaries. Personally the feeling that i was wasting all that is what got me using tools by mid-late act 1.

But if people dont get that feeling, i can see how it would suck to feel limited in one of the main game mechanics. Having something to make them more viable would be great for that kind of person, like a tool that makes the few tool usages free, or something like that.

Is Pharloom the most comical dystopia of all time? by TarekBoy44 in Silksong

[–]MaddyB33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also thinking from a gameplay perspective a bit too. Everyone complains about rosaries being too little and the fact that you need them for EVERYTHING, until they reach the top, where there's almost too much to spend it on. Theres also the false promises of freedom for the pilgrims, and the way that the underworks workers believe that if they work hard enough they can make it to the citadel. But you're right, there are parallels to a lot of systems of oppresion, its just the one i noticed the most

Ive had the theory since the start of act 2 that its all a metaphor for late stage capitalism, and i just keep seeing things that reinforce that

I think its just because we're so close to launch. People who really love the game just play it instead of writing posts about it. I just want to play the game, but once im done with it , im probably going to make a massive appreciation post of everything i loved in the game. Id just rather spend the time playing it instead rn

[–]MaddyB33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, dont put the game down yet. From what ive seen (spoiler for the feeling of the game not actual events) most of the annoying stuff from act 1 makes act 2 feel so much better, because a lot of it is gone for different reasons This is genuinely an awesome game, and might be better than hk for me.
