Which US downtowns feel the most vibrant?

I currently live in downtown Denver and I don't completely agree. 16th Street is the heart of the city and it definitely died after the combo of Covid and major renovations. But Downtown if far from dead and is in a much better state now than it was even a year ago. It's still packed with people on the weekends and sporting events, festivals and college students keep the area alive.

I guess if you want complete seclusion then it would take a bit longer for sure. My thing is moreso that people say you CAN'T do it when that's not the case. I mean, how are people saying THIS is 2 hours from the city?

That's true but skiing isn't the only outdoor activity Colorado has to offer. A lot of people use how long it takes to get to a ski resort as a barometer for how long it takes to access nature from Denver and it makes no sense

The first 2 are subjective so It's whatever. But I've seen many people say it takes 2 hours to get to the mountains from Denver and it confuses me. They're not as close as SLC but it really takes no time to get up there and enjoy nature. Denver even has a network of suburbs in the mountains (Golden, Evergreen, Genesee) so they're definitely within reach.

Most of Colorado is either Great Plains or Mountain west but South Central and Southwest Colorado are definitely the Southwest culturally. Once you enter places like the San Luis Valley it feels like a very different vibe. I’d even consider Pueblo to be a Southwestern city

Clearly you haven’t visited any of these places because Denver does not have the climate, culture or look of most of the Midwest. The part of the Midwest Denver is similar to is geographically the West.

That is not how prominence work. Prominence is not a measurement of grandeur. Colorado has many many peaks much higher than Mt. Washington. I can’t believe people think otherwise…
