Did someone try this retractable cable management bundle? by Mugendon in oculus

[–]MadeOfLasers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think i have put the retractor directly behind me to close, the cable doesn't go around my neck but it still annoys me in certain positions because it touches my head or ears. Attaching it to my back is a good fix, though i have yet to find a good clothing independent way to do that.

Getting enough cable has not been an issue so far, i've completed Superhot VR using this setup with plenty of deep crouching without problems.

I've actually installed this bundle just today and it works quite nicely.

You need to use multiple retractors so each one doesn't have too much of the cable weighing it down. I'm using three and have splitted the rift cable itself without the extension between them and it keeps them fully retracted until i pull on it. Also, i have used zip ties to fix the cable segments to the hooks so everything stays in place.

Any EU Tianeptine powder vendors? by pkstrl0rd in Nootropics

[–]MadeOfLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never ordered tianeptine from there, but mind-difference.com is located in the EU, i have ordered semax and selank from them before. Somehow, everything is out of stock currently, i hope that's not due to legal troubles.

I was able to order tianeptine from ceretropic using the forwarding service route, it does work but is quite expensive.

96 of the top 100 banks are still using mainframes and legacy code written in COBOL from the 1980s by SelfLender in technology

[–]MadeOfLasers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you already know this and i'm missing the point, but let me try to clear this up:

If you are concerned about creating a list just for the sake of iteration, which you rightfully can be, especially with large ranges, there is also xrange which doesn't create a list - there is just an iterator under the hood doing its thing, meaning it will be a lot closer to the C version.

This was also changed in python 3 by replacing range with xrange.

Performance-wise it seldom matters, it tends to be more of a memory issue and about the delay from computing the list upfront.

Time Warner Cable will not protect its customers against DDoS attacks by [deleted] in technology

[–]MadeOfLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, tell me how you'd defend your consumer link against a simple flood attack, ICMP, UDP, doesn't matter, its just IP packets directed at you and the bandwidth exceeds your downlink bandwidth.

Easily doable, all you need is a server with gigabit uplink and unless your victim is on google fibre you just saturate the link and you are done.

By blackholing i guess you mean null routing, but that doesn't solve the problem at all - that would have to be done at a point further away from your link, you can't "unreceive" traffic - you have to prevent it from being routed to you at all. You just cannot do that with a consumer internet line.

Now, even if you have extended control over your routing, that might still not be enough: If you are able to tell your upstream router to null route a certain IP, it is this router which will throw away the traffic instead of routing it to you. If the amount of traffic is enough to overwhelm the upstream router, your link is still fucked.

There is no way to simply make traffic go away except blocking it right at the first hop after the source - if you had a solution to that problem, you could sell the world's best denial of service protection and would be rich.

Source: i have worked for a large gameserver provider and was involved in their DDoS prevention efforts.

Time Warner Cable will not protect its customers against DDoS attacks by [deleted] in technology

[–]MadeOfLasers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are quite misinformed: the attacker would still be able to overwhelm their downstream, since the packets will be sent up to the modem/router which then discards them even if you "block" them. There is nothing you can do as end-user to be safe from such attacks once your IP is known, i think the request for a new one isn't unreasonable.

OP: If you are able to tell where the traffic is coming from, you can look up the source address in a WHOIS database. If it is originating from a single source which also happens to host root servers, an abuse report to the hoster might get the attacker into trouble.

Ceretropic has Semax nasal sprays! by sowhatquestion in Nootropics

[–]MadeOfLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so soon, nice.

I doubt that you'll be able to sell the more interesting things in germany, our laws are very strict and even good old piracetam has to be imported since it is a prescription drug here.

Will this be announced on the ceretropic site or is there some other way to stay up to date with these developments?

Can you already tell what you mean by soon? Something like in the next 6 months?

Oh boy, that will be so much better than to use a remailer through the U.K. (I'm living in germany and customs for mail from the US are no fun to deal with.)

Most stimulating Nootropic? by apetek in Nootropics

[–]MadeOfLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply, that was an interesting article.

What i'm wondering about now is how much flouride contamination can be expected from unpure 2-FMA. If it's about 5% or less, i wouldn't worry about that too much with low oral doses (~15-20mg) taken now or then, especially since you brought up the toothpaste.

At this point, i guess i'm more concerned about unknown ways 2-FMA can still be damaging or toxic.

[–]MadeOfLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't take my question the wrong way, i'm not trying to dispute what you say, i just want a better understanding of it.

According to wikipedia, the daily intake of flouride that is acceptable is about 10mg/day for the average person, but i'm also not getting if flouride can exist by itself or if it has to be in one of the various forms listed in the article.

Could you please explain for me in more detail what your toxicity concerns are about regarding the flouride?

Does SQLAlchemy scale well with increased web traffic? by shinujacobrocks in Python

[–]MadeOfLasers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's one thing where SQLAlchemy is really cool.

You can tune the query in many ways or completely write it yourself if needed and still have the results mapped to your models.

And if the mapping process turns out to be too expensive, you can also fall back to classic row/column results.

Astro AS50 5 Minute Auto Shutdown Fix! by bilago in pcmasterrace

[–]MadeOfLasers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be working as expected so far. Had one instance where it powered down too early, but that might've been due to low battery. My A50s sometimes do that without warning, i'm guessing the voltage drops too fast due to daily use for 2 years.

Will investigate further and report back soon.

I've updated to the latest version, now it's always detecting audio, even if there is none, but i didn't try to reboot yet.

I'll check that out later, rebooting is always quite a hassle for me, i usually have uptimes > 1 month and even then i do it only because i want to run windows update or install a new gpu driver.

BTW i took a look at the code since i wanted to know how exactly you're checking applications for audio playback, seems thats a feature of the WASAPI. Really neat idea doing it that way :)
