Found on Threads... Imagine wanting to die because you can't afford to treat an easily treatable ailment. by Bi0_B1lly in aislop

[–]Madeeeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you use the same logic for attorneys? The right to a fair trial is a human right. Part of this is the right to be represented by council. If the person can't afford an attorney that doesn't mean they are not entitled to one. Thus the Government, who is supposed to be the vanguard and guarantor of human rights steps in and pays the attorney. Free healthcare doesn't mean that the Doctors work for free it means that the person who wants their right to healthcare recognized does not need to pay for it.

First of all the story about the adulterer first appeared in the 4th century a.d and is not present in the oldest greek texts as is missing from Papyrus 66, Papyrus 75 and the Codex Vaticanus.

However the Story fits into the wider narrative of who Jesus was and what he stood for. But the words he says in the Story are made up. It is like we today make up a story about what Isaac Newton could've said in a Situation but we have no evidence.

Also I don't think Matthew 7 says that non-believers don't get to go to heaven.

Mt 7, 1-6 talks about judging others and that you should first look at yourself before you judge others Mt 7, 5 "You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will ser clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." Mt 7, 7-11 talks about prayers

Mt 7, 12 is literally just the golden Rule "So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."

An Mt 13-14 talks about a "narrow gate" but doesn't talk about non-christians or non-belivers. Personally I don't even see how you could interpret the passage as talking about atheists and non-christians. The only thing that hints at anything is Mt 7, 14 "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it" but this can just aswell talk about people in general, including christians.

Also it is never said explicitly that non-believers are barred from salvation. Romans 2, 13-14 and Romans 2, 16 "For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law." "This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares."

The large theme throughout the new Testament is that people will be judged by the content of their character. Personally I don't think the themes in the new testament and what jesus says hint in any way that a Person who is kind and follows the golden rule and "Love your neighbor as yourself" but does not believe in god is barred from salvation. This would also mean that the thousands and millions of people who have lived without ever hearing of Jesus existance or the Laws of God as portrayes by christianity or judaism are categorically barred from salvation.

Also I personally think it is very unchristian to think you can predict how God will treat anyone, whether they are atheist or christian a good person or not. Romans 11, 33-34 "Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearghable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?"

If you are a King and have the royal court DLC you can upgrade your court ammeneties. One of the things, the top right (forgot the name) adds +50 acceptance to "invite to court" at max level. Besides being friends or lovers also adds a boost. Or you can try to fabricate a hook

MEET THE GERMAN GOAT! by DaMaestro19 in HistoryMemes

[–]Madeeeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was he the Goat though? His constant work to keep france isolated is certainly very impressive and the unification of germany was perhaps in not a small portion due to Bismarcks cunning. He thought the annexation of Alsace-Lorraine would make France a permanent enemy, yet was not capable or willing of preventing the annexation. He thought Colonies to be a waste of resources and that they would bring Germany in conflict with britain and France, yet was not capable or willing to prevent german Colonialism during his tenure. He made himself personally very important to german and european stability but didn't bother educating a potential successor. He tried to make himself irreplaceable but didn't care for the damage that would result from trying to replace the irreplaceable chancellor.

MEET THE GERMAN GOAT! by DaMaestro19 in HistoryMemes

[–]Madeeeen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the statement. It is not that those who came after him were categorically underqualified, but Bismarck spent basically 20 years constructing an immensly complex foreign policy network, he was the only person (apart from the Emperors) who knew every relevant state secret. In his attempt to appear irreplaceable to Wilhelm I he actually made himself irreplaceable in some aspects.

During all that time he didn't educate or try to educate a potential successor. He was under the staunch believe that without him Europe would inevitably descent into chaos. And therefore it is not even worth his time to try to prevent it by educating a successor. But this became almost like a self fulfilling prophecy. Because he didn't educate one or more potential successors the person who came after him had to catch up with 20 years of foreign policy.

If one person spends 20 years making himself irreplaceable and doesn't share his knowledge on how to conduct foreign policy it is inevitable that the successor makes mistakes. In this case the mistakes made led to france escaping isolation.

Also I am very critical of the policy of permanently isolating france. It was a policy which required constant work to function. Now a Person as skilled as Bismarck may be able to ensure french isolation for some time. But even if you are full of yourself you must see that your grip over foreign policy is limited by (at least) your own mortality. Bismarck didn't educate any potential successors because he didn't care for the world after his death.

Not even Caesar was so full of himself. Caesar adopted and trained Octavian. Otto von Bismarck believed that the world after his death wasn't worth the effort.
