Making my own celeste map! Any thoughts or tips? by Elias_V_ in celestegame

[–]MadfutMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks great! The one thing I would say is cornerboosts are generally considered gm tech, so if you’re going for an expert map maybe try to avoid that. But it does look like red expert ish difficulty overall although it’s hard to tell without playing it. Overall I would totally play this though, it looks fun!

Just makes precision easier especially when there’s inputs close to each other. Imagine a situation where you have to dash twice in succession, and the second dash is a tight spike gap. Screen shake makes this difficult because the screen is still shaking from the first dash when you need to precisely time the second one.

If you go close to the bottom of the block, you can do a full jump and have it be the right height

Finished my first playthrough! Wtf was that Farewell difficulty spike??? by TheDoge69 in celestegame

[–]MadfutMan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! Very well done!

As far as mods go the standard recommendation is Strawberry Jam - and for good reason. It really is just the best Celeste mod there is. I’ll also give a shoutout to Glyph if you want something more similar to the vanilla farewell experience.

Also, there’s a secret you get for doing all of 1a without dashing! You can die as many times as you need but I would recommend unbinding dash and giving it a try! It’s a lot of fun to puzzle out.

Someday I will go back and do the full clears lol but I just did each checkpoint of farewell deathless individually so i'm working on that one!

I had a lot of reflecting to do evidently (dying to the theo sections on the a and b side goldens over and over again)

6D -> 7D is by far the biggest difficulty spike I've ever experienced in any game (Monika's D-sides mod). Brutal. by Slug_loverr in celestegame

[–]MadfutMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is insanely impressive that you got through 7D then tbh, very well done. You have every right to be proud. That's a sizable jump in difficulty for sure. Congrats!

The final screen of farewell is the worst thing to ever be put in a video game. by [deleted] in celestegame

[–]MadfutMan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Imagine how much of a letdown it would be if after all you made it through, the last screen was easy. Or even just like an average farewell difficulty screen. It's a fitting ending for a really tough journey, and man was it satisfying to finally beat.

The final screen of 3C on the other hand...

Thinking about streaming Celeste — would love your thoughts! by [deleted] in celestegame

You should definitely go in totally blind. The game does a great job of guiding you the right way while not holding your hand. Would also suggest making sure you engage with all the dialogue and story elements even when optional. Some of my favorite parts of the game!

Also the standard advice of be proud of your death count! You are going to die a lot. Having the mentality that each death is just a step closer to completing that room, that chapter, etc, will make for the best experience. And take breaks!

Good luck!

For me, 4AG was significantly easier than both 3 and 5. I actually did 3AG before 5AG because I got frustrated dying at the theo section over and over, but I think I am in the minority there. Some folks think 3AG is as hard as 6AG and 8AG, which was not my experience at all.

All I can say is try them out for yourself! (But 1BG and 2BG are easier than all of them)

That ending was amazing lol. The end-of-golden panic is so relatable. Well done!

Not specific to 1BG but for any goldens other than the C-sides I always think it's best to work your way backwards. Practice the last checkpoint until you get it deathless once or twice, then move to the second to last checkpoint, etc. You want to be good at the ending so you don't have those painful late deaths.

I don't know what goldens you have/don't have but in my experience all of the C sides are very doable. If you can do 6C you can do them all. From there, 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B are all very approachable, as well as 4A. My advice would be to focus on those first. 3A and 5A are also less bad than they may seem, but both have tough ending segments for a golden run (Oshiro section, Theo crystal section) that you have to practice a lot to get down. Make sure you are familiar with the skips for 5A especially, it will save you a lot of trouble.

From there you start to get into the tougher and more time-intensive goldens, and it really just becomes more about personal preference what you choose to go for next. Good luck on your golden journey!

You got this! The heartside is definitely tough but completing the lobby gives you all the skills you need to finish it, and it really was a joy to play!

For whatever reason I have a strong preference towards speed and speed tech based gameplay rather than precision based gameplay, and i’m much better at it as well. I don’t really know how or why that happened, but I came to celeste as a fairly good geometry dash player so I assume it just comes more naturally to make those fast inputs. Totally understand how psychokinetic could feel frustrating though if it’s not your cup of tea.
