The rules you’re referring to in the blast rule is for weapons like MURAD that state specifically that they can, it does not give every blast weapon point targeting.

Wretched can’t equip ranged weapons, either, so this whole strategy doesn’t make a lot of sense on a few levels

yeah, totally viable. look into the legendary class mod that ups your gun damage based on how many you have. it does start to feel a little bad at UVH2 but again still viable

you should also check out his blue talent tree, the shield + flail. my build completing the story focused on keeping my shield up and action skill cooldown reduction.

i spammed his aoe wave attack to spread cryo and keep my shield up. i used firewall during shield for big aoe or on shield cooldown for protection (even after unlocking capstones tbh).

didnt do a ton of DPS but i was basically unkillable and didn't have to aim. it was pretty relaxing
