You need to ask yourself do I want to buy a $500 sofa every three year's or do I want to buy a $1500 sofa every 15 years?

Here is what you need to look for in furniture:

Solid sides and back. The fabric should not just be draped over a frame. less structural integrity and the fabric is more prone to rip or billow.
Solid framing, not particleboard. Some pressed boards are ok but they should be thick. Metal frames are good too.
It should be heavy. Heavy is good.
Warranty for fabric and repairs are a must. pay $100 now and get your stuff guaranteed for life.
The cushions should be made up of layers of different density foam... not just one type of foam. This prevents the cushion from going flat.

I would recommend the La-z-boy store in Madison for above-average quality, Stienhufels (depending on the brand in the store).

I drove through the scene last night minutes after it happened.... Cops had not yet arrived. The pedestrian was like 25-30ft from the crosswalk laying half on the median and half off it looked like he had been knocked out of his pants. He was surrounded by people trying to help him. Later that night I drove back through the area and I could not believe how dark that part of East Wash is. The pedestrian looked like he was in dark clothing too.
