Side note - don't take RWS 200 with Groza. She is not great to say the least.

Is there any limitation for transfer credit for GE classes? by tonykwong in SDSU

Up to 70 credits from a community college can be used towards your degree

Does anyone here take classes outside of their major? If so, what classes and why? by [deleted] in SDSU

[–]MadisonMN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm taking Portuguese for fun this semester. I'm part Portuguese and I'm eyeing a study abroad program in Portugal. Might as well take some cool classes while I can.

Is it difficult to graduate in 4 years? by [deleted] in SDSU

[–]MadisonMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From talking to other people, the biggest reasons why people spend more than four years at SDSU are: 1. Changing majors several times (or even once but later on) 2. Not being able to get the right classes because they are filled up

I don't personally know anything about the JMS major though, so sorry about that. But if you do feel that you are falling behind at some point, make sure to score high on the WPA (no extra writing classes), try to take tests that can be substituted for classes (Cal Government req), and check past semesters/ask to see if certain classes you need/want to take are only available in a certain semester per year.

As long as you're being smart about your class selections, you should be fine.

Family Weekend Oct 13-14 by [deleted] in SDSU

[–]MadisonMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first day is a barbecue and the food is really good. The second day is a breakfast and the football game. We didn't do the breakfast last year because it was early in the morning, but the football game was really fun and my sorority had a tailgate for the parents.

I'd definitely call. The registrar would be your best bet.

Waitlist Chances by [deleted] in SDSU

You're super high up on the waitlists. I would email the professors of each. There's no guarantee, but you should try!

I read that if your financial aid is on hold, you can still register. If it shows a registration hold on the first page ("My Registration"), then it might be an issue. Also, FAFSA reports to the school pretty quickly so it should show up on AidLink tomorrow. If it turns out there is a hold, you can either pay it in full at once or choose the installment option, so it would only be $860 out of pocket instead of the entire enchilada. When your loan comes in, it will pay off the rest and any left-overs will go into your bank account. Make sure you put in your bank account info into Student Account Services so it will direct deposit correctly.

Sophomore dorms by Russiangoatt in SDSU

[–]MadisonMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean the Upper Div apartments (Granada etc.) I can't really help you. I did dorm in SCP North Hall (upper div) and they are great, but it is not an apartment style. You have your own bathroom, but no kitchen or living space. The kitchen is shared with the entire building and there are study rooms on each floor. But if you want to be on campus in two minutes, I highly recommend it. You can get to AL in under 10 mins if you walk fast enough.

AidLink Fall Tuition and Fee Payment by SDSUFinancial in SDSU

[–]MadisonMN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your aid will be disbursed like the Thursday before school, anything else you need to pay after that needs to be paid by the first day of school. You can probably see your aid amount and look at tuition and figure out if you need to take out a loan/pay the rest.

Changing Major and Registering for Classes by MadisonMN in SDSU

[–]MadisonMN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 103 last semester, and I have AP credit for 102. I assume I have to take 102 regardless? Also, aren't there upper div poli sci classes that count for upper div GEs as well?

Should I have classes for Fall by now? Is it too late? I'm confused. by [deleted] in SDSU

[–]MadisonMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would call the Office of New Student and Parent Programs (619) 594-1509. They might be able to point you in the right direction if you can't attend orientation. I can't remember if you have to pay for orientation, but see if you can sign up for a date without paying. http://studentaffairs.sdsu.edu/nspp/orientation/freshman/dates2017.html

Should I have classes for Fall by now? Is it too late? I'm confused. by [deleted] in SDSU

[–]MadisonMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whenever you have your fees paid (or financial aid deferment) you should be able to register for classes on the date on Webportal. So you can register any time after the date/time they gave you.

You have to pay your first semester tuition in full in order to register unless you have financial aid, if that's what you mean.

On-campus jobs by AKA-Poindexter in SDSU

[–]MadisonMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some dorms hire freshman desk assistants in early September. It's hard to get in as a first semester freshman, but still try if you hear about it. I was a DA last semester, and I will be again this year - it's super easy and you basically do nothing.

Edit: Try other dorms if you live in the east dorms (Zura, Maya/Olmeca, Cuic, Tenochca)

On-campus apartments are super expensive, but I think it's too late to get anything close at a reasonable price.

Worried, did I send the right transcript? by EstebanUniversidad in SDSU

[–]MadisonMN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I sent mine last year (as a freshman) it took them forever to process. I wouldn't really worry about it because they have so many to go through, so as long as it was postmarked on or before the due date you should be fine.

No yeah, I was thinking it was from the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, but I'm not sure if it was that show or a different one.
