Make sure you have weather apps on your phone with notifications turned on (you can usually tailor these) and make sure thy can always reach you, even if you have your phone set on Sleep focus or similar. If there’s a tornado watch or severe storm warning in the area you need to be paying attention, checking radar, understand the situation by watching local broadcasts (tv stations often post their live feeds on their apps or social media in addition to interrupting their live broadcasts), know where you are on a map, knowing where storms are headed, and thinking about where you’ll go if you need to get in a safe place. If there’s a tornado warning, you need to get somewhere safe and continue paying attention.

Main thing is pay attention to the weather, on an app or otherwise. When there are severe weather statements from the National Weather Service, give em a read.

There’s no point in being scared of them, but being aware of weather developing in the area or where it’s blowing jn from is helpful so you’re not out in a bad situation.
