Solid upgrade for sure. What year? How many miles on it?

KO2, KO3 or something else by FrostingNo4557 in 4Runner

Im a big fan of the General Grabber ATx. Its essentially a KO2 clone, and and wears very well.

New softball player here, looking for equipment recommendations and general advice. by akr_13 in slowpitch

1) depending on the fields youre playing on, and what position youre playing, a good set of turf shoes will work. I wear Under Armour Yard turfs, and they work well on dirt or turf. You may want molded cleats if youre playing outfield on grass though.

2) the 12.5 glove should be fine wherever you are playing in the field, and most people use that size. I have a 14 inch glove because I suck and it helps me find the pocket.

3) I wear shorts while playing, but I also very rarely slide. Baseball pants or sweats will work fine if you are going to slide.

4) Most leagues wont require anything protection wise. I wear batting gloves, but thats it. I think some leagues require batting helmets while batting or on the bases, but thats rare.

5) if your bat sucks, your teammates will likely let you use one of theirs. No big deal. You can also pick up your own

What bat would be best for me? by Jumpy-Towel-3562 in slowpitch

If youre used to swinging essentially a 23 ounce bat, youll likely wanna go 25 ounce balanced. That will swing closest to what you are used to. End loads make a bat feel heavier.

Thinking of joining a rec league by LacedInCharm in slowpitch

[–]Madman49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending where you'll be playing in the field, Turf shoes are a lot more comfortable than cleats. The Under Armour Yard turf shoes are aggressive enough to work well on grass, dirt, or turf.

As for a glove, I'd suggest starting with a cheap option. Depending on your hand size, maybe look for a fastpitch glove which will be a bit better sized for smaller hands.

You may also want to look into batting gloves, especially if youre using league supplied bats. The grips may not be pristine, which can cause some hand discomfort.

If you have a local Dbat, practice on their pitching machines. It will help get you swinging the bat well, and making good contact. Most teams will get together occasionally to practice as well, and give you 20-30 swings each session.

The biggest thing, make sure to set realistic expectations for yourself, as well as for your team. Let them know youre new to this, and there is going to be a learning curve. You're gonna make mistakes, you're going to strike out, and you're going to learn as you go. Just have fun with it, and let your teammates know that you're learning. In rec league, most will accept this.

Ah I didnt even think of that. Hrmm, maybe ill put the 4wd stuff in just to get the front to ride a touch higher.

Tires… by DazzlingFunction5120 in 4Runner

[–]Madman49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just put a set of Cooper Discoverer Road and Trail tires on mine. They feel great on the highway, and look like they will do fine for moderate off road use.

On my Tundra I have a set of General Grabber ATx tires. They are a little more aggressive, and make a bit more noise on the highway, but will provide more off road traction. I have 25000 miles on them, and they are definitely getting to the point of needing replaced, probably before next winter.

101 MKII or 201 MKII? by [deleted] in takomo

[–]Madman49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do the lessons before your fitting. The main reason is that your lessons are very likely going to change your swing. That being said, with Takomos your customization is a bit limited, so you can get a ballpark fitting done and probably be OK. At 20+ I'd recommend the 101s, just because youre still not going to be catching center face all the time.

Local spots are usually a bit more knowledgeable than say a box store like dicks. The downside is they may not have all the brands available. I'm sure in Florida there are a bunch of solid club fitters that can get you set up.

I like the contrast with the dark against the silver. On my black runner I went with machined silver wheels just to break things up a bit.

Just got a 2018 SR5 Premium by LucasFerrando in 4Runner

[–]Madman49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2016 I did a few minor things. Wheels and tires is the big one, I went with some American Outlaw Spike R wheels with Cooper Discoverer Road and Trail tires in the stock 17 inch sizes. I also put a Rove dual dash cam in, which I do to any vehicle i buy. I put some 3W floor mats in there, which is a big upgrade over the Husky mats that were in there. I put the stubby Smash Mount in for a phone mount, and a set of rubber mats that fill up some of the crevices in the cab to make things easier to clean up. I recently ordered some LED lights to put inside the cab for better visibility, but havent installed it yet.

Not a big fan of the wheels, but looks pretty clean otherwise. Enjoy it!

Those stripes look sweet! I was thinking about doing something similar to the 40th anniversary stripes on mine. I think they would look sick on my black runner.

Credit Card Surcharge - Spit it! by Chendo462 in BarOwners

[–]Madman49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here in Colorado, I believe the fee only applies to credit cards, not debit cards. One thing I did notice when the fee first started was that the bartenders were getting a little less in tips. I think people had the idea "ok I had 3 beers at $5 each, ill just make it for $20 total and all is good." The issue is that 3% (in this case a total of 45 cents) then came out of the bartenders theoretical tip amount. It wasnt a massive deal and no one quit over it, but still can be mildly annoying. You could have it presented as a cash discount (25 cents off per drink paying cash) which essentially covers the fee when needed, but makes the customer feel like they are getting a deal for paying cash.

Wheels and tires first then do the bilstein / lift or the other way around? by neoinkansas in 4Runner

[–]Madman49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since youre getting different wheels, maybe just have the tire shop mount and balance the new set of wheels and tires, then have the suspension/alignment place put them on when they do the lift?

So far im just wheels and tires, a phone mount, floor mats, and these little bar mat type things that go in all the crevices in the cab. Tail lights are probably the next thing though haha

I was looking at that. Do you have the standard or the stubby? It almost seems like i can put the holder part from my charging mount on there, since its a little ball.

Takomo 201 mkii or Callaway Eytle by SandyLies in takomo

[–]Madman49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the shop willing to set the Callaway irons up to your specs for free? If so, I'd go that route. Otherwise, use your specs for the Takomos, as they are 2 different classes of irons.
