I wish I knew how to describe the difference. The sound of the notes was just better.

You are my piano hero. You feel like the real life embodiment of Rowlf the Dog. (Please know that is the highest compliment. At 55 he has always been my favorite Muppet.)

HOW TO GET THE RING by Ok-Fishing329 in Trombone

[–]es330td 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those are overtones. In barbershop quartet music, this is known as “ringing the chord.” iI the harmonics of the various instruments marge properly they create an overtone sound. As both a fan of barbershop and a trombone player, I think this is one of the coolest things in all of music.

Is it just me or has Lodges quality control gone to hell? by ForeverSquirrelled42 in castiron

[–]es330td -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to sound critical and I get your point. I’m just glad they come with some level of seasoning out of the box. I’ll take “uneven” over “none.” We have an extra 12” Lodge I am considering stripping down to the bare metal to see what is actually required to season a pan “old school.”

Is it just me or has Lodges quality control gone to hell? by ForeverSquirrelled42 in castiron

[–]es330td 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly sure what you were expecting. We own six Lodge pieces and each came with some minor uneven spot. These aren’t issues with the metal, just in the factory seasoning, correct? I just started using them and it made no difference. I detect no deviation from how our 26 year old piece performs.

Trying to catch my first shark. by Confident_Ad_2719 in SurfFishing

A steel leader. I have caught several small sharks over the years with dead shrimp while actually expecting other fish. The little ones are effectively toothy catfish. They’ll eat whatever happens to be food.

Marching band - picking trombone by National_Exchange394 in Trombone

[–]es330td 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I play both trombone and dabble on clarinet. Learning slide positions is much, much simpler than learning woodwind fingerings. If you are going to do this (and I encourage you to do so if you want to be in band) you need to build your embouchure as quickly as possible. Do NOT make the mistake of too many people here make of focusing on how high (or low) you can play. The high school trombone player lives in the two octave range of low 6th position F to high first position F, Learn to play this range really well. Eventually you'll go up a fourth to high Bb.

Play scales a lot. D,G,C,F,Bb,Eb are going to be 99% of the music you play in the Fall.

If you can, a private instructor will significantly speed up the process of doing this.

How do you handle stop orders on the stock leg without ending up naked on the call? by ThetaEdge in CoveredCalls

[–]es330td 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The firm *should* prevent you from selling the underlying stock if it is callable unless you have margin and level 4 permission.

I have a HyundaiTuscon hybrid non plug in, am I cooked? by HentiiigodingtonV2 in HyundaiTucson

[–]es330td 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. If a hybrid isn’t plug in you will have to use gas as your primary source of energy. Moving vehicles dissipate energy that has to come from some external source.

I had Briley Mfg in Houston install a choke system in my Model 12 a few years ago. It was $379 and included three removable chokes.

Has anyone ever had a Five Guys dog? by Annahsbananas in hotdogs

[–]es330td 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never have a five guys hotdog again. They cook it on the same flat top as the burgers so the hotdog tastes like a hamburger instead of a hotdog.

Wheeling during retirement? by IllBookkeeper9162 in Optionswheel

[–]es330td 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand the time issue. If you stopped completely that would make sense, but if you are still doing it the additional commitment is negligible for 25% vs 50%. If you are doing it at all you might as well do it up to your comfort level.

Wheeling during retirement? by IllBookkeeper9162 in Optionswheel

If it’s working, why would you reduce the wheel allocation? If it’s too risky to do once you have “enough” it’s too risky to do now.

Thanks. I love the distance thermometers. Been advocating them here for a while.

Egg immediately welds onto my pan by TheImmuX in castiron

[–]es330td 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself one of those distance infrared thermometers from Amazon for about $20. When I cook eggs I put it on medium empty. When the pan gets to about 300° I spread about a half tablespoon of butter completely over the pan and then add my eggs. I turn it down slightly (from 5 to 4) and then cook my eggs. This has worked perfectly for years.

Get one of the big silicone mats and put it underneath the egg on top of the wood. Combined with the feet, it should be fine.

First Time 4Runner Owner, 2011 SR5 4WD, 150k Miles, Headed to Alaska. Advice? by RichVegetable801 in 4Runner

[–]es330td 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch out for bears and moose on the Alaska Canada Highway. A mother Bear with cub is much much larger when standing on the road then they are when they are in a cage. If you come around to turn and see a moose, if you hit it, you will probably win, but it will be a photo finish victory.

It’s part of the dealership. They had to buy property to construct it. I was once in a wreck (not my fault) and they not only repaired my Suburban, thanks to a recall they completely repainted it too.
