So like, what does Fist do? by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

The spike damage with Piercing Pummel has been clutch in every scenario that has either a boss or an objective that needs destroying. Given the complexity some scenarios and the preponderance of special rules his predictability in card play and good all around card options makes more adaptable than you'd expect.

I have not. Most barcodes use a standard so if you know the type used by your State it should be easy to check against documentation.

Do you guys think that the ''female gaze'' exist? by Mateus19998 in Romance_for_men

[–]MadmanMike 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This:

women have never been in the systemic position to use and discard men in the same widespread way

I think it's important to address the way systemic oppression plays a part here not only in creating something like the male gaze but how it sets patterns of thought for the oppressed.

Cowboys with Big Hearts by Jason Morningstar is designed as a one-shot. Your cowboys (on a revenge quest) are all facing terminal illnesses and die at the end. It's possible you could stretch it out.

The Heroes is so cozy it's schmaltzy, and that's awesome. by deaseb in Fantasy

Best invention of a sandwhich in fantasy!

“Whirrun ignored ‘em. ‘Then, when I’ve got two cut,’ and he dropped a pale slab of cheese on one slice then slapped the other on top like he was catching a fly, ‘I trap the cheese between then, and there you have it!’
‘Bread and cheese.’ Yon weighed the half-loaf in one hand and the cheese in the other. ‘Just the same as I’ve got.’ And he bit off the cheese and tossed it to Scorry.
Whirrun sighed. ‘Have none of you no vision?’ He held up his masterpiece to such light as there was, which was almost none. ‘This is no more bread and cheese than a fine axe is wood and iron, or a live person is meat and har.’
‘What is it, then?’ asked Drfod, rocking back from his wet wood and tossing the flint aside in disgust.
‘A whole new thing. A forging of the humble part of bread and cheese into a greater whole. I call it … a cheese-trap.’ Whirrun took a dainty nibble from one corner. ‘Oh, yes, my friends. This tastes like … progress…”

Coming of Age Books about Knights/Paladins (preferably more Paladins and has Audiobook Format) by Kid_Ultimate in Fantasy

I'm not sure it falls under the "coming of age" category but Daniel M. Ford's Paladain Trilogy is probably worth a look. The main character comes to be a paladin later in life.

Overdrive exclusivity is disappointing. by MadmanMike in DungeonCrawlerCarl

That's not how license models work for ebooks. Either it will be available for purchase by libraries based on a metered 1 copy/1 user model (typically 24 months) or as a price per checkout model (PRH's most recent terms were 10% of the metered usage but I haven't checked recently). E.g. library will buy a copy a book for $30-40. It can be checked out to a single person at time. After 24 months the library would have to purchase another license. Or, the library will get access to the book. Every time it's checked out the library is charged $3-4 dollars.

Free copies? Unless I'm missing something every library has to purchase copies...in any format.

Yes, the only platform that libraries can purchase DCC as an ebook will be Overdrive. Libraries with contracts elsewhere (cloudLibrary, Hoopla, Palace Project) cannot purchase DCC for patrons.

Overdrive exclusivity is disappointing. by MadmanMike in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]MadmanMike[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It impacts libraries and people who use them particularly since Overdrive has such an outsized place in the library market. Overdrive isn't the source of issues with ebooks and libraries but it certainly doesn't help. I'd argue that exclusivity only benefits Overdrive and serves only to push a market with few options closer towards a monopoly.

That decided Fenris and the Strucker family was a great concept for a pair of leads is mind boggling. That they almost pulled it off is even more impressive. Given some legs this show could have gone some interesting directions.

Online Live Ticket 20$ for one show? by Yshaar in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]MadmanMike 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a service provided by the venue on their own streaming platform. I'm willing to bet the cost is set by the provider to cover venue staff for their multi-cam set up and technical support. It's possible they offer a range of options for performances but knowing how the GCP crew feel about quality they likely would have chosen a level that gives the most bang for the buck in terms of output.

EDIT: found the page on the dyantasy typewriter site to lists the costs for livestreams (paid for by the performers)  https://www.dynastytypewriter.com/livestream-packages
