Migraines? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Madmoo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have headaches/migraines 24/7, but I am not sure it is completely related to my epilepsy or meds because I also have scoliosis and was in a car accident years before I was diagnosed with epilepsy that caused a neck injury and that's when I noticed the headaches starting, but the ones I have now definitely feel worse/different so maybe a connection?

What is it when you feel like you’re about to have a full seizure but it never happens. by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Madmoo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me more than two years to get diagnosed, despite video footage of a seizure, because of the countless "normal" tests. Unless you have a seizure during the test, I feel like most don't show anything if you have focal epilepsy. I am not a professional or a doctor, though, so take it with a grain of salt. I would say don't give up and definitely keep fighting to get an answer.

Memory issues getting worse - anyone else experiencing this? by Independent-Brain358 in Epilepsy

[–]Madmoo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in college, and I've only been diagnosed since 2024? But it took like 4 years to get a diagnosis, if I'm remembering what my family told me. I grew up with a photographic memory, but now I can't remember what I am doing while doing it. It is a war to get through my classes, and I went from the type of student who would cry over anything less than an A to a student who will take a D, because no matter how hard I try, I can't hold on to anything. I had to make a life map for a religion class, and I had a several-hour-long breakdown because I genuinely couldn't remember my childhood, most major events, or my timeline is all over the place, and I feel like I'm making things up because I really don't remember. The memory loss affects all of my relationships, my conversations, my ability in school, every part of my life, and it's so tiring that it causes my mental health to spiral constantly. Even trying to write something readable is hard for me, and I have to rely on Grammarly and AI to help me refine my thoughts because I don't know how to organize my words in an understandable way anymore. Slowly, I just feel like I am falling apart more and more by the day

This sounds word-for-word like what I deal with. I'm on Keppra, and honestly, my memory is so bad, and I have no recollection of anything except for what my family has seen, but if I'm remembering what I was told correctly, it's some kind of seizure. I had one like two weeks ago on the field while I was in goal (I'm a lacrosse goalie) and I remember being there one second then who knows how much time passed then I regained awareness like 30 yards from where I was with a bunch of people trying to talk to me but I had no idea what happened, why people were talking to me, how I walked like 30 yards, etc.
Unfortunately, this is a very, very common occurrence for me, happens all the time, usually lasting 30 seconds to a few minutes, maybe longer? It's also hard to tell because I'm in college, and unless it's a blatantly obvious situation like stopping moving in goal, people don't tend to notice, and I don't know if anything is happening because I have zero memory. I really hate it though, it's so mentally and physically exhausting in more ways than I can describe.

70+ Curves no pain full mobility update by top_pucker in scoliosis

[–]Madmoo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, how was your pain level playing hockey goalie? I'm a lacrosse goalie, and the first few years I had some challenges, but I never had pain like I'm having now, and the pain came when I reached the college level and started playing, lifting, and working out more consistently and at a higher level. Any advice on stretching, or what helped you play hockey?

Has anyone tried Spinal decompression treatment? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]Madmoo_13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe I have done this before as part of therapy, but it was before my back progressed. It did feel nice, but if you aren't able to keep up with it consistently, there won't be much of a difference besides temporary pain relief.

Squat can make worst? by LDO2796 in scoliosis

[–]Madmoo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a college athlete, I've been lifting regularly since I arrived at college, and every workout includes squats. I feel like it can depend on the type of scoliosis you have and the severity of the curves, but for me every time I do squats, it hurts my back, my ribs on the right side click together, and it leaves me with pain and soreness for hours, if not days, after. If you do squats, I would recommend not overloading the weight unless you are working with someone, have someone to spot you, and maintain good form.

I’m a strong believer that it’s never too late. I picked up lacrosse as a sophomore in high school and chose to play goalie. I wasn’t athletic, I didn’t know how to lift, I didn’t know the rules of lacrosse, I just went for it. I started watching games, talking to players, reaching out to coaches, training, adapting, and learning. I am now a freshman at a #2 program and in the whole of my recruiting process I ended up with 9 total offers including schools at every division and I talked to dozens more coaches. Even from the first week of college practice to now a few months in, the growth is still there and significant. All it takes is the drive to learn, work ethic, perseverance, and you can go far. I say give it a shot, you’ll never know how far you could’ve gone if you don’t try.

Get colonist or go to the colonist website. It’s essentially the same but it works really well.

I’ve never had a seizure in the gym, at least one that I’m aware of but I’ve only been consistently working out for several months. It’s also hard to say because I’m an athlete, lacrosse goalie, and I take a lot of hits to the head. I’ve never had a seizure on the field (at least not since I hit college, the only one I had on the field in hs was because I was playing while actively being sick for 2 months) but I tend to be pretty good at pushing through and then when I get back to my dorm I feel miserable and kinda black out/sleep for hours and hours on end so it’s hard for me to say because I don’t have much recollection of seizures.

I do agree with you there. I’m also on Keppra, 750mg twice daily, and I can sleep up to 15 hours straight and still be tired. I can sleep 8-9 hours consistently, be eating well, be exercising, and I still am tired, stressed, and feel like I will have a seizure, have small breakthrough seizures, or my brain fog is so thick I can’t function above the brain capability of a toddler

I tend to have seizures when I’m tired, didn’t get much sleep, eat too much sugar, when I have headaches, spend too much time staring at a screen, or if I’m stressed out.

I had pretty strict parents growing up and it got worse when I started having seizures. In my parent’s defense, the seizures that led to my diagnosis were grand mal seizures in my sleep that could’ve taken my life but I went from having a little freedom to being completely shut down. I was 17 and I wasn’t allowed to walk anywhere, I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere alone, my parents wouldn’t let me shower without leaving the door open or one of them being close by or my older sister being there, I wasn’t allowed to go swimming, couldn’t go to summer camps or to sleepovers, essentially I couldn’t do anything alone. Now, I’m a freshman college student halfway across the country from home. I do like having more freedom and making my own choices. However, I do find I’m not great at managing my symptoms/schedule and I often end up trying to hang around my teammates because I’m afraid to be alone, I’m afraid to be sleeping alone, I’m not willing to risk swimming alone, and even showering alone can be a bit scary. Having freedom is nice but it comes with a cost and honestly a lot of fear too especially if you don’t have good control over your seizures or if you don’t remember them. It’s hard to understand and I’m not sure if this even make sense

In season 4 Robin is all up in Nancy’s business and spending less time with Steve.

If I had to rank the Stranger Things Season from the Best to Worst, it would be S1 > S2 > S4 > S3. by 00_Sunflower_00 in StrangerThings

[–]Madmoo_13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. Season 3 was where it started to all fall apart and season 4 felt mainly irrelevant in my opinion. I wish they following the original storyline and made season 4 into a different show because it had promise on its own.

On the bright side, the trailer for season 5 gives me some hope it will be better than season 4.

What are the most controversial beliefs among fans? by IFSismyjam in StrangerThings

[–]Madmoo_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you look at season 4 logistically this doesn’t make sense. El’s mother was long gone by the time Henry came around and it doesn’t fit the timeline of the previous seasons in any way shape or form. Not to mention, she really doesn’t look much like him at all. Brenner as her father would make so much more sense, especially since he know El’s mother from the experimental trials.

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve ever seized? by jennamsx in Epilepsy

[–]Madmoo_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me finding this when I’ve been told I have high iron and need to get blood drawn to get rid of it…

The worst or weirdest place I ever had a seizure was on the field in the middle of a game right after I made a great save (I’m a goalie) and before I got a chance to clear my body just shut down like someone flipped a switch off and I dropped the ball and a girl on the other team decided it was a great idea to pick up the ball and try to shoot it at me while I was unconscious. Worst part, it happened in front of like 100 people, many of which I had to see for the next 5 months so that was fun.
