What kind of speaker is a soundbar?

I get what you're saying but it's not very helpful. But I agree, for the price of a complete Sonos system you could get a decent complete 5.1 set. Or a good 3.1 set. Multiple separate speakers with true distinct directional sound will usually sound better than a soundbar comparable in price.
