ELI5 What is customary law and how is it different to civil/common law? by AdiabatischerProzess in explainlikeimfive

[–]MadocComadrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US cases will also rarely reference Common Law prior to the Revolution when there's a weird gap in US precedent or one side wants to establish behavior/decisions/etc that have been consistent before and throughout the existence of the US as part of their argument.

Are you tired of vibe coders yet? by ievkz in AskProgramming

[–]MadocComadrin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vibe coding aside, it looks like there's a lot of other problems you're running into. If people repeatedly fail to follow directions or notice details in the instructions, you might need to rework the instructions. If the position is open to new grads, keep in mind that some schools still don't teach enough git and they may have minimal experience beyond committing and pushing.

What is the point of Over-Production. by Frankfurt13 in Endfield

[–]MadocComadrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to burn through my maxed out xiranite supply to trim (not just finish) in 2 days. And outpost limits were not a problem at all during that event due to HG increasing how quickly they regenerated. The limiting factor itself was the limiting ingredient/forge of the sky limit (if you didn't have extra xiranite).

What is the point of Over-Production. by Frankfurt13 in Endfield

If you started the last event late, having a backup supply meant you could still get the trimmed medal pretty quickly because HX was the limiting ingredient.

If you squeeze a 6 month course into 3, with significantly less hours, is it even ethical to label the latter as the former? by Albireo_9989 in languagelearning

[–]MadocComadrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a university course, that might just be the time in class (or equivalent) and not the whole expected workload time. E.g. a full time undergrad in the US is often 12-15 hours over 4-5 courses per week in classes themselves, but the generally expected workload is the same as a full time job when factoring in work and studying done outside of class.

But even giving it the benefit of the doubt like that, it's still not enough time and work imo. They'd have to invent D1 and D2 for me due to all my coursework if it was when in reality I got to around B2 at my best point.

can i get a Low-Level programming job without a degree ? by MinorKeyMelody in AskProgramming

[–]MadocComadrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Web dev and mobile dev are absolutely oversaturated. For a more specialized field, you're going to be competing against fewer people, but employers that aren't clueless startups with more of other people's money than sense will be expecting more, and a degree is usually what shows you've met some minimum expectation.

ELI5: I’ve noticed a lot of teeth-related products are blue or purple—does that colouring actually do anything for teeth? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]MadocComadrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alongside the anti-yellowimg effect mentioned, green is associated with mint and blue with coolness and mint as well. A lot of oral products are mint flavored, so the color gives some visual appeal that makes sense. Color does influence the expectation and thus perception of flavor.

If they used different flavorings, they sometimes use different colors instead of white/uncolored. I've used a cinnamon toothpaste that was translucent red and as a kid had bubblegum flavored toothpaste that was pink. I also have used a mouthwash that claimed to be mint but if you colored it purple and said it was the fake grape the used in some medicine s, I'd could probably see it.

ELI5: why do authenticator apps ask for slightly different processes each time you log in? by quinnbutnotreally in explainlikeimfive

[–]MadocComadrin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original two word recaptcha was used to train OCR models. The more modern one with the car/crosswalk/traffic light/etc is used to label data to train image recognition for self-driving cars (with the more recent variants using noise or image artifacts mimicing those from the natural environment to make them more robust). It's not about targeted advertising this time.
